Just a reminder that Guehi was another Chelsea throw away. Just like Tomori was.
I swear if they make Chalobah available we should pick him up based on that alone!

Foden is an amazing player. He’s not overrated. He should be in the team, he just shouldn’t be on the left
Think he's not aggressive enough for England.
He's playing like he's at Man City wanting to pass it around for ages, waiting for the perfect combination. That's not England's style of play.
He should be looking to drive with the ball when there's any bit of space and try to make things happen.
Too used to that ultra control style.

But it is though. It’s the Lampard Gerrard argument all over again of putting square pegs into round holes. Play either Bellingham or Foden as a ten and have the other on the bench with an actual left forward on the pitch instead. The balance of the team was all wrong tonight.Thing is though he should be able to at least contribute, even if it isn't ideal. We've seen him do much better for Man City on that side.
Can he be that good if playing in that position renders him completely ineffective?

Foden isn’t a LW but Southgate doesn’t have the balls to play him centrally or on the bench. Quite pathetic, actually.
Other than the Iceland game where he played number 10 and was pretty poor, has Southgate never tried him there before? Can't recall.

Foden on the left just isn't the one. Shoehorning to the max
He was given freedom to roam and didn't do anything.
Don't think the issue is this playing on the left thing.

I thought in the context of his experience he was really good. Just thought he had a couple of sloppy moments on the ball 2nd half that Stones didn't. Thought Trippier was the pick of the bunch in the back 4.
Fair enough.
Thought I noticed Guehi a bit more back there.
Trippier was good defensively too, but really didn't add anything going forward, which was very disappointing.

I'd rate Guehi higher than stones
Guehi was probably man of the match.
Such a cool effortless defensive performance. Excellent use of the ball too.

Foden should be dropped after that performance. He was terrible and offered no help to Trippier.
He won't though, we will play the exact same 11.
Can't believe he got the full 90 mins.

100%. They didn't expect us to come out and sit deep and defend
like reverse psychology.
England's biggest advantage is that a lot of these teams show them way too much respect.
Play way too defensively to start and don't show enough initiative.
As soon as teams go more attacking this England team starts to panic.

Can't believe the ref kept giving him those. Terrible stuff.

Hanging on against Serbia man
If Serbia hadn't started with that more defensive lineup, and had started with this current lineup instead, think England may have been in some bother.

Foden has never looked as good playing off the left as he does through the middle or from the right. It's just not his position
This excuse just won't fly man.
Not even doing the basics right.

Foden has been terrible.
-
Pretty alarming how little Foden has managed to just get on the ball.
Seems to be struggling to find the right spaces to receive the ball.
Crazy how much less effective he looks for England.
-
Typical Foden for England performance so far.
-
Bellingham getting forward from that number 10 position again. Goal!

One game doesn't make a decision. Last time Bellingham played there he was anonymous too. You're wasting both their best attributes playing them where he is.
That number 10 is so awkward in Southgate's setup. Especially because Kane drops into those spaces.
Good thing about Bellingham is he will look to make runs forward when Kane drops.
The system on a whole is just clunky. Think Foden is more likely to have an impact from wide, in a bit more space.

Yep, and he’s hardly played the role, if he is asked to do it against the best opposition he will be exposed imo.
Going to be interesting to see how it plays out.
He is so important due to his passing and set pieces that you want him in the team.
I think it's probably easier to hide his defensive issues alongside Rice and Bellingham in the centre, rather than when he's at full back.
Hard to say for sure though. Should be a telling game this.

@KaKa Still rate Hoijlund? He has no striker instincts for me. Players don't seem to want to pass to him.
Hojlund is just fine.
Think Denmark's wing backs aren't good enough for this system they're playing.
Too much onus on Eriksen to make things happen, and he's faded second half.

Vestergaard's pace there! So slow.

Yeah, so interestingly, Chelsea have already blocked both Badiashile and Gusto from going.
Depending on how interested he might be in playing in the Olympics, that could be a sticking point for signing him.
Would letting him go to that be an advantage? If so, is that something you'd want us to let him do?
