  1. It's so obvious how this will all play out.

Jim will keep playing the hard man negotiator.

Then Branthwaite will move to Man City or Chelsea this time next year for around £80 million or more.

£35m for someone with one season under their belt is a perfectly reasonable opening bid.

Deal will probably be done for somewhere in the middle.

8 years ago Stones went for £50 million.

5 years ago Maguire went for £80 million.

    Good luck man.

I can spell it out for you one word at a time if you'd like.

Sevilla initially wanted something stupid like £50-£60m for Diego Carlos. You offered £30m. They rejected. Called it a pathetic offer.

He ended up going for something like £26m in the summer to Villa.

I'm fairly sure you lowballed for Botman as well before stumping up the asking price.

Stop acting like low opening offers aren't the norm. It's a feeler bid.

Find me the public  quotes stating any of our offers were unacceptable and that much lower than the initial asking price.

Remember Newcastle bidding £30m for Diego Carlos when Sevilla said he wouldn't go for less than his £60m release clause.

Clueless them Saudi lads. Ashley 2.0. You lads are in so much trouble with those guys.

What on Earth are you on about?

This is absolutely desperate stuff man. My God [emoji38]

Folk I know that worked under him in the Industry have not 1 good word to say about him. A real warm people person, guaranteed to get the fans onside

Seen enough with that interview bitching about gardening leave and compensation on TV. The guy is a mess.

I don’t think anyone would laugh if you made a market rate offer for someone who is going to be a mainstay of England’s defence for the next decade.

£35m is an absolute insult of an offer and does nothing to enhance the perception that Jimmy boy doesn’t have a scooby what he’s doing.

Trying to unsettle the player and get him to kick up a fuss about leaving.

Not going to work though, which is why the tweet stated that Everton has said he is happy there and so they'll have to pay a premium.

The idiots laughing at it are the same ones who'd laugh if we just went in and bid £70m right away.

    :lol::lol::lol:

He's an English 21 year old top prospect at centre back, not some Brazilian on his last legs from Real Madrid, goofy.

You guys are in so much trouble with Ratcliffe.

Keep hanging in there though. You'll see soon enough.

For those saying that he’s a good upgrade on Dummett, I think there’s a good chance that he is actually our starting LB for the majority of next season. He can do everything that Burn does there but is physically more effective (quicker) and he is not far off of Burns height either at 6’3. Tall for a LB, which is what Eddie has liked there so far.. the height is a huge advantage when shifting into that back 3.

Yeah, he's not joined us as a sought after free agent with the level of experience and ability he has, to fill Dummet's role behind a teenage Lewis Hall.

This will become far more apparent once people actually watch him play for Newcastle, as most have already stated they weren't that aware of him.

Apart from all the physical traits you mentioned, he does get forward pretty well, and puts in a decent cross. He is no slouch by any means in that department, and looks nothing like Burn does in those forward areas.

  9. I know we all find Football Insider to be a very dodgy source, but just thought I'd mention it, as it's a slow day rumour wise.

They are claiming we've been in touch about signing Tomori from AC Milan.

Referencing football managers “scouting team” had me in stitches

    Jokes on you pal.

Watched a documentary on how their whole scouting setup has expanded outside of gaming now.

A number of professional clubs now use and reference the data and information they collect as part of their recruitment process for players and staff.

We really could do without this nonsense.

Can't even imagine how much it would set us back if this somehow happened.

At least some of the moaners would be happy then. And then we'll see which genius comes in next and does better, like they all think is such a given.

We would have to agree a fee with Barca and Torres himself doing the medical before the Euros. That not happening.

Yikes! Didn't realise they kicked off this weekend!

Do we bid for a player now when hes getting ready for the Euros? Doubt it..

Probably eager to wrap it up beforehand.

Would be typical for him to have a great tournament and have Chelsea come steaming in.

  14. 2 minutes ago, Dokko said:

Doesn't he play on the left? How much left do we need?

Has actually played on the right as his primary position over his career.

Can play on the left too though and upfront.

Only just turned 24 too. Great age as well.

Thought I was going to beat you to it for once! But you remain king [emoji38]

Would love Ferran Torres for that right wing and as another option upfront.

If we get him for anywhere near that price that is exceptional business.

  16. If Chelsea's plan upfront is to have Jackson and Duran that is a good sign.

I like both players, but neither are fully polished or fully reliable enough to lead the line as the main man yet.

  17. 20 minutes ago, AyeDubbleYoo said:

Don't clubs just talk and agree a price?

I really don't get this bid then reject thing, are we talking in the course of one conversation?

Think the bids are essentially trying to call a clubs bluff.

To see if they'll actually reject a decent bid if it's on the table, and hold out for more.

  18. That McKennie is a decent player and Emery will get a tune out of him. He's had some good seasons at Juve. That loan at Leeds was a blip in comparison.

And Illing-Junior is highly thought of and we've even been linked with him a fair bit. He's really young too.

Those two plus £20 million for Luiz is not a bad deal for Villa at all.

Let me nail my colours to the mast as being pro this signing. But it is pretty funny being happy about this signing while griefing about Hayden still being on our books in a neighbouring thread. There's certainly risk attached, but all in it looks like a calculated gamble.

Hayden isn't good enough at this level though, and so we can't use him at all.

When he got that new contract, we probably already knew that too, but ... Mike Ashley.

  20. Oh, and also, longer contracts mean less of an FFP hit, year on year. And so there's that as well.

  21. 3 hours ago, Checko said:

5+1 is a long deal for someone who's had a lot of injury issues.

He's a free transfer so would have had some leverage, and would have been looking for some security.

We probably compromised on a longer contract, but on a lower salary than he may have wanted initially.

Took a bit of time for this to be finalised, and so I imagine these were the types of discussions taking place.

  22. 43 minutes ago, Danh1 said:

Can only assume they noticed that he was playing regularly and didn’t actually watch him “play”.

Doesn't suit what we do, with our high line and press, but is still good enough for teams lower down or in lesser leagues.

Certainly would be a decent pick up for Celtic to replace Hart.
