Alan Pardew talking to The Mail:

“England are still looking for their best team and system and are wrestling with how to use their strikers, but one position is clear to me: the need for Harry Kane to play as the No 9 through the middle. “He is your out-ball, a player comfortable playing with his back to goal and, yes, he scored goals for Tottenham drifting in from wide, but is the most effective centre forward in the England squad. “That means leaving out either Jamie Vardy or Daniel Sturridge, or playing one of them in a different role out wide…but any striker playing out there also has to occupy the opposition full back to stop him from attacking regularly. Goalscorers don’t always like to do this, they see it as donkey work. “Strikers are usually the biggest egos in your group. “When I was at Newcastle I alternated between Papiss Cisse and Demba Ba through the middle, with the other playing wide. “My argument was to give each their feed of playing in the premier role while also asking them to play the support.”

Each their feed of the premier role ... totally disregarding the fact Papiss was hopelessly useless in that position. This guy really is a piece of work. A glimpse into the horrible job he would do for England.

  2. Urgh ... Man City man. Really hope Guardiola bombs. How do they lineup with Augero and Aubameyang? They're going to play him wide?

Probably, when you think about it they need him though. Outside of Aguero who on that City is a genuine goal threat? just in general not just strikers, Silva, Sterling are not on their best days maybe De Bruyne at a push but that's it. Not to mention Aguero is constantly injured anyway and if Pep's past is any indication then Toure is off.

Yeah, true. Silva seemed to fall off a fair bit last season too.

Bony is definitely going to get ditched along with Toure too I'd imagine.

  3. I really love Aubameyang. Annoying to see him go there. City are so cringe.

They paid £50 million for Sterling right? That fee for Aubameyang isn't half bad considering.

This will put Sterling straight on the bench now too.

  4. Seen people mention West Ham ... is he even as good as Kouyate? That guy seems to produce a hell of a lot more. Really not sure who would be looking to buy this guy in actuality. Maybe West Brom if Pulis stays.

  5. How many goals did he score this season? One?

And he played in attacking positions the whole season too! We don't need this guy. It's a great time to move on and try and get someone else in.

  6. I genuinely can't be upset at him for this, as I really want him to go. It's alarming how many moves fall apart once he gets involved. I just don't think he is very good at all.

Looks great when he's on one of his lung bursting runs, but very often it came to nothing. He needs a fresh start somewhere else, where he is surrounded by really good players that hide his flaws.

  7. Looking back it's so funny how the rap on this guy was that he had no end product. Poor guy was just rotting away in Spurs reserves, which is quite crazy really.

Really chuffed for him in how well he ended up doing for us. Would love for him to stay and have a phenomenal season and help get us back up, and he could then hopefully continue to star for us in the prem.

  8. Bamford being strongly linked. Apparently was the Championship player of the year in 2015. I didn't realise he had such a good season in the Championship that year.

I guess if we are looking at young prospects that have experience performing in the Championship, with the potential and age on their side to possibly step up in the premier league then he would be a good shout.

  9. Anichebe is one that should have gone down to the Championship 5 years ago and really looked to play every week and bang in goals to build up his confidence.

I could see him doing well in the Championship tbh. He would be useful with his strength, athleticism and speed. He's on a free too, so could be a useful addition even if it was just as part of the squad.

  10. Oh man, I'd be happy for AVB actually. Think he had something about him, but was in a couple of tough spots previously. Southampton could be a nice fit.

What a potential collection of managers in the prem next year. Hope we bounce straight back up, so we can add Rafa to the mix.

  11. If Vardy goes to Arsenal I think he'll do well there tbh. And I can't really blame the player on this occasion, he's a 30 year old striker who has only been playing top flight football for 2 years. His game relies somewhat on his pace, he might only have another few years to try life at such a big club. Obviously it'll be very disappointing for Leicester, but I understand it from both sides.

Yeah, same. It's the only club up there where he would go straight into the first team too, and be the number one striker, and potentially really shine there.

Rough on Leicester though. Weighing all things up, I'd probably just stay if I were in his shoes tbh. After last season, I think you just have to stay with Leciester and look to push on with them.
