  1. From Skunkers:

Here's the story why Keegan has left.

Last Friday Wise came to Keegan with Bastien Schweinstiger apparently signing, Keegan was happy with that, as he sanctioned the selling of Milner.

Then apparently Wise came back saying that he hadn't actually signed him, it had fallen through due Jiminez's interference. Keegan was fuming but was told there was still many targets in sights for the end of the window.

Keegan went to Arsenal not happy.

Monday morning Wise, Jiminez and Keegan meet again. Keegan was waiting for them to say such and such is signing. BUT NO.

It was a list of most of the key players of the squad with price tags next to them. Apparently Shay Given had a 10 million price tag and also Owen was on the list. Not only that Xisco et al were on the signing on list, Keegan said he didn't want any of them.

Keegan was furious and went mental. Wise said well its either you put up with what we are doing or you're "sacked". Keegan said well I'm sacked then and stormed off to Manchester.

Keegan didn't have any contact with Newcastle for awhile until he saw the statement, he then went to the LMA and told his side of the story.

Yesterday Derek Llmabas(sp?) went down to try and bring Keegan back but it failed and they instead sorted out compensation etc for Keegan leaving.

    From Keegan's daughters other half.

  2. Ladbrokes have got Deschamps 3rd favorite now behind poyet and wise, be a deent stab i guess, but this Marcelino guy sounds about right. Fits in entirely with player recruitment - and he'll be a damn sight cheaper than any of the usual suspects.

Realistically it's going to be a foreigner or someone young/inexperienced, because any manager with proven experience/half a brain isn't going to want to have to answer to Dennis fuckin Wise given Keegan's experience

I am starting to think a city boycott of this paper should be petitioned for

Seriously WTF have they got against us

Really loved this part of the article:

Newcastle have completed the £10m signing of another Argentine in Deportivo La Coruna centre-back FABRICIO COLOCCINI.

Coloccini also attracted interest from Tottenham boss Juande Ramos but the North Londoners pulled out of the race

Nice of them to step aside for once. Maybe they could kindly let us have Arshavin as well

  4. If you have any bother getting through ring 01915257000 which is the main switchboard for the company that does the retentions and plead ignorance. Claim you've rang the Setanta number and they'll put you through.

  5. I have been trying to cancel for a few weeks but you can never get through on the pissing phone!

When you do get through, they ask you to put it in writing! The cancellations are based in Sunderland at Doxford Park. I used to work there. if anyone would like the correct address to send their cancellation request in send me a message :coolsmiley:

  6. Have signed it, but why not take it one step further - Newcastle could host a bi-annual tournament in SBR's name, and invite one of his former clubs to take part each time, with perhaps the inaugral tournament featuring all teams who SBR has managed. Again, all proceeds to go to the SBR foundation. This would be a far more fitting legacy to the man as opposed to naming a stand in his honour which has been bandied around recently.

It's a crying shame no one at the club has had the foresight to set this up already. With the old fella looking to be in deteriorating health, I think it would have been a nice gesture for him to see something like this set up already, so he could at least be guest of honour at the first tournament. He's lived and breathed football all his life, is there a more fitting way to honour the man?

  7. If he's found guilty of the Dabo thing, his legal team will argue that he's learnt his lesson from his current spell inside and that further imprisonment will not only affect his career but also be a waste of taxpayers money. Plus, the Dabo case precedes the offences for which he's just been locked up, and as they're similar offences(violence), they'll argue that had he been sentenced on both offences at once, he'd likely receive the same sentence as he has now on one set of charges.

He'll more than likely receive a token punishment for that, or a whopping load of community service.

  8. I think the announcement of the home top has been put off so it can tie in with a home friendly so they can entice people to the ground for the friendly on the back of launching the new strip. Or perhaps we won't have a new one because Ashley still has a warehouse full of this years!!!

  9. dif the premierleague or the f.a put in a regulation where you could only change your home shirt every 2 seasons?

if so, how come sunderland are bringing out a new home shirt already, when they only just brought out a brand new one with umbro last season?

No such regulation exists. A few clubs change theirs every season.

Think it was some kind of  fans charter a few years ago that a some clubs signed up to iirc

MIKE Ashley remains convinced Kevin Keegan is the right man to lead Newcastle United’s Premier League revival after the pair met in London yesterday to discuss summer transfers.

Ashley was joined by chairman Chris Mort, Dennis Wise and Tony Jimenez at the meeting at the Freshfields Office and, although Mort insisted the matters discussed were “private club business”, the outcome was said to be amicable and positive for the future.

Speculation has been rife over the last few days that Keegan’s relationship with Ashley had turned sour after he appeared to express his frustration at the lack of communication between himself and the owner.

Keegan seemed irritated he had not been informed how much money he would have to spend in the summer, while new contracts for key players like Michael Owen, Obafemi Martins and Steven Taylor had also still not been agreed, despite his insistence they were a matter of urgency.

However, although new contracts were discussed at yesterday’s meeting, the main purpose of the talks – as revealed in The Journal yesterday – was to formulate a clear plan on how best to proceed in the transfer market this summer.

Keegan is believed to have sought certain assurances about the amount of money that will be available to him as he tries to strengthen the squad and, given that he, Ashley and Mort were all in attendance at a charity dinner for former United manager Sir Bobby Robson last night, he appears to be happy with the figure he was quoted.

United were unwilling to elaborate on what was said at the meeting but Mort confirmed to The Journal last night that the atmosphere was positive and that all parties were looking to move the club forward over the summer. He said: “We had a good meeting which was both productive and constructive.”

United, of course, have a last-day trip to Everton to worry about tomorrow and Keegan will focus all his attention on trying to end the season in style at Goodison Park. It will be another good benchmark for Newcastle. The Toffeemen need a point to guarantee their place in

the Uefa Cup next season, an objective Keegan will set his squad at the start of next season.

However, he is bound to be quizzed at length about the confused events of the last few days, as well as his reaction to the talks with Ashley, regardless of the result. Newcastle fans will certainly hope the manager is in a more positive frame of mind than he was after the 2-0 defeat by Chelsea on Bank Holiday Monday, with an exciting summer of new arrivals anticipated.

At this stage, it is clear where their support lies and it is with the manager, who has restored some much-needed pride and self-belief at the end of another difficult campaign with a run of just one defeat in eight games.

It is highly unlikely that details of exactly how much Keegan has in the transfer kitty will be made public as every club sensibly tries to hide its hand when it comes to the often complex bidding process. But it is believed to be a sizeable amount, with Keegan content with life at St James’s Park.

The Journal understands that talks with Owen’s advisers will begin in the next few days and Keegan will hope his skipper, Martins and Taylor will all have agreed new deals by the time he is able to welcome his first new signing to St James’s Park. Keegan has indicated he expects to land three or four top quality players over the summer, but that number is likely to increase if, as expected, the likes of Charles N’Zogbia, Emre and Alan Smith leave the club

That version of events makes more sense

  11. Keegan would hate lying to the supporters. If he thinks he has no chance of progression he would tell it how it is. He even said in the press conference that he would answer questions as honestly as he could after the meeting. If he thought the club was going to be sold short he would say so. Let's just give these guys the same sort of chance at sorting us out. Whilst KK is there I'm sure it will be told how it is

  12. At the end of the day it's all media bollocks . If Anal is right, he reckons Keegan is going to get reminded of Ashley's vision when he met him before he took the job. If this statement is true, why on earth are people worrying. If Keegan thought he had no chance of success on any level with us he wouldn't have taken the job - simple as that. He insisted on meeting Ashley at the start so if they are suddenly singing from different Hymn sheets I would be very very surprised. All we can do is wait with anticipation as to how dealings this summer are done. All these people pressing the panic button are in all probability a little premature. FFS was given the benefit of the doubt many times, maybe we should give these people a chance before slating them. At the end of the day a man who spunks £250m on a football club knows his only chance of a return on his dosh is by trying for success. The papers have got us in a worse position than Stoke ffs without any hard proof.

In summary the only way Ashley can get his money back is by helping us to succeed. Leave the panic button alone - for the forseeable future at least
