What's blue monkey? Were you necking cowies?
Yeah it’s their rave club from the early 90s. Went there regularly and it was a genuinely brilliant place. If you were into that scene of course.I wasn’t necking anything but others definitely were.
The place was packed, no phones and very fucking loud. Genuinely felt like 1992 all over again lol.

For work I’ve got to travel through Sunderland quite often, usually multiple times a day. The redevelopment is just a small bit where the brewery once was, and around the SOL, although aside from the Sheepfolds, nothing has really happened around the SOL.
There is pretty much nothing being down to its high street, aside from one building, the trains station (which is getting pelters from the residents) and a Holiday Inn.
Day to day, the vast majority of the residents won’t have any reason to interact with the majority of the buildings being built.
It is nothing like the ‘One of the most ambitious redevelopment projects in the U.K.’ tag that the Sunderland media and residents are repeating.
You know what though, it’s a shame. The high street for example is a mess. Studies show that residents of Sunderland do their non-grocery shop in higher numbers in places like Washington, Metro Centre, Newcastle, and Durham more than they do in Sunderland.
Last week the residents were celebrating the fact that Tesco opened up an Express store in their town centre. Imagine not having a convenience store in your town centre in 2025, heck even North Shields has one of those small shitty ASDA’s.
As it happens, Sunderland is in a position where it could feasibly knockdown a large number of buildings in it’s town centre and build a few quality mid-high rise buildings which could increase the population and create the demand for entertainment facilities, and retail.
It’s on the seaside, has a University, has a decent amount of parks within it, and it is a Metro ride away from Newcastle. It by all means should be an up and coming area, and it should be making strides to look appealing to younger people, especially if they are offering affordable housing within Tyne and Wear.
I was through there last weekend for a Blue Monkey reunion night (which was absolutely tremendous, to be fair) at the club Elysium in the city centre. Got the Metro through and I was shocked at the state of the area from the walk to the club from the Metro station. Last time I had a night out there was about 15 years ago and the place has gone even further downhill by the looks of things.Seems like their Stack at Seaburn is the place for a night out now as the centre of town is an absolute hole.

Has everyone forgotten that these fuckers are experts in PL drain circling? Won't be in the least bit surprised if they surprise everyone, or the league has a one-off bizarre event where one or two of the regular midtable teams has a disaster season.
Never rule out how spawny these cunts can be.

Fuckin hell. Fair play to Alex Crook on Talksport. Yesterday he said there would be a big news boardroom departure at NUFC and this is obviously what he meant.
-
I'm absolutely raging at that performance mind, it was absolutely shambolic. But shows very clearly to the heirarchy that big investment is needed this summer, so maybe a valuable lesson for the club.
-
I knew they would do it and I knew Sheff Utd would bottle it, the useless fucks.
It's annoying that they are back but I'm over it already and quite looking forward to the derbies again.
I don't think it's clear cut that they will go straight back down either. Either way though, in the long run this is the start of them getting a proper long term foothold in the PL, even if it takes the Marrachute payments and a yo-yo or two to do it.

Hope’s article from Thursday re stadium -
Newcastle chiefs are continuing to work bureaucratic channels as the club prepare an update on the future of its stadium.
Rather than make an announcement and then realise what they want to do is not feasible, the club have been determined to get their ducks in a row before going public with their decision.
Confidential revealed in March that the intention is to move to a new stadium on Leazes Park and a video of how that would look was presented to the owners, with club executives proposing a capacity of 65,000.
Newcastle could have released that vision at the time - much like Manchester United did with their 'New Trafford' design - but there remained work to be done at a local and national level of Government. The lease of Leazes Park is one such consideration.
However, Confidential can reveal some additional detail around the proposed new stadium. We understand it would be 35 metres above the St James’ Stack, protecting its visibility around the city.
The Cathedral on the Hill, as St James’ Park has become known, is unique in that it stands proudly above the city centre and can be seen on the approach from every direction. Staff want to maintain that feature.
I’m also hearing that the club have been working with a company monitoring stadium atmospheres this season, with the intention of getting the acoustics right inside a new venue.
Lessons have been learnt from the likes of West Ham’s London Stadium, where the atmosphere has suffered. Preserving and enhancing the St James’ roar is chief among the club’s considerations when it comes to building a new home.
Construction company Laing O’Rourke are among those spoken to about the project.
Exactly what I needed to hear.

The proposed stadium is set to accommodate 65,000 spectators, surpassing the capacities of Arsenal's Emirates Stadium (60,704) and Tottenham Hotspur Stadium (62,850), making it the third-largest football venue in England, trailing only Manchester United's Old Trafford (74,310) and the planned New Trafford Stadium (104,000).
Key features of the design include a 35-meter-high "stadium stack," enhancing the venue's prominence in Newcastle's skyline. The architectural approach draws inspiration from iconic structures like Bayern Munich's Allianz Arena, featuring a bubble-wrap-like façade, and incorporates a park-style walkway reminiscent of Wembley Way.
The estimated cost of the new stadium ranges between £2 billion and £3 billion. Funding is expected to come from Newcastle's owners, the Saudi Public Investment Fund (PIF), which acquired the club in 2021.
Where's this from? I really hope its designed to be an atmosphere-generating stadium and has expansion potential.

How many goals do Villa need to win by to overtake us? 😬😂😂
We absolutely have to win because there is no way Villa aren’t winning too. Before tonight I thought Man U would get at least a point but no chance that is happening now. -
The crowd have to be up for this one, similar to Chelsea last week but even more so for this. None of this "we were nervous" bollocks. 90 minutes of relentless backing.

I don't think a green away kit and sponsors is going to be the limit of Saudi influence on the clubs assets.
Think most people won't mind a Saudi-named new stadium.
I don't love it. But I think it's inevitable (not necessarily Saudi green in the badge) if the Saudi's are as invested as we need them to be.
That's all fine, but green cannot be a part of our badge. Its far too intrusive.

Reckon the final badge design will have a shade of green in it.. the brief will be keeping the heritage of all the previous designs while giving a nod to the current owners.
They need to be super careful though.. it's thin ice territory and one misstep and all the good up to now will have been undone.
That would be a terrible decision. It's all very well having green away kits but green in the badge is an absolute no-no.

Aye these cunts are coming up. Shame, I was hoping for another 5 years of them slumming it.
-
Absolutely pathetic that. You'd think we were midtable with nothing to play for.

That's utter shite pedalled by Makems
He's always been a Newcastle fan and there's loads of pics of him in Newcastle shirts in the years before we were taken over. There's even pics of him outside SJP on his 2019 album cover
He's not obsessed with football and he loves music, Star Wars and computer games more than NUFC, but he's supported Newcastle all his life
Additionally, his close uncle, Jamie (a former skunker) is black & white daft. I highly doubt that Jamie's NUFC obsession did not rub off on his nephew in a meaningful way..

That Ty has got to be one of the biggest cunts following any football club. Absolute little rodent he is.
-
Delicious. Fuck off Villa.
-
Palace's support has been sensational today mind. Fair play to them, some noise this.
-
Haha, get in Palace. Why weren't Villa this shit last week though ffs.
-
Fantastic news. We've missed you Eddie lad.

Sheffield Utd are garbage. The playoffs are anyone's and I could easily see the Mackems sneaking them.

Need to wake up or we could well lose this. Murphy and Barnes have been poor. Need to get Gordon on. Atmosphere for a key game has been absolutely woeful also
The crowd have been shit after the first 20 mins. No surprise that we conceded once the atmosphere tailed off. Our crowd at home are so hitty missy man.

Was hoping out of the top 3, Sheffield United wouldn’t be the ones to drop into the play offs. Haven’t watched them much but never been impressed when I have, the Mackems should’ve won with ease at Brammall Lane for example.
Agree. If Sheff Utd end up in the play offs then the Mackems are getting promoted IMO.

It might have an SR postcode but Whitburn is part of South Tyneside.
Maybe, but personally I go off postcodes. NE postcodes are an unofficial Greater Newcastle to me. And NUFC is the team of the NE postcode as far as I'm concerned. If Whitburn is SR then it's Sunderland to me. It's certainly closer to the Wear than the Tyne too.

On the list of many reasons not to want them promoted, the return of their lifting patter is right up there near the top. You forget just how peaceful its been for the last 8 years.
On Skunkers there used to be a post that said "Mackems always shout too soon". All these years later and nothing has changed.
I get that they are giddy about being back in the big time and having some relevance once more, nothing wrong with having hope, but as usual they just can't help immediately gazing 12 miles up the road and starting up their wild comparisons to NUFC.
