  1. Lots of chatter on social media about Leeds' brilliant atmosphere at Elland Road last night. Interesting how looking at this video of it, & the demographic seems to be widespread kids in their 20s and early 30s. An all new extended SJP should allow us to get this kind of crowd into our stadium.

The thing I hate most about Man U is the arrogance of the club - yes they are a big club from a fans base.  But they haven't won the league since 2013 - over a decade a go.  Their time has come / gone - Newcastle are the future.  We will dominate football - just going to take a bit of time.

It also took them nearly 100 years into their history to overtake us on trophies won. Or 102 years if you’re just talking domestic trophies. Not once before 1968 had they ever been ahead of us on trophies won.

They are obviously a giant now but that’s only happened in the last 30 years. Busby made them big and Ferguson made them elite. Before the 1950s though they were the literal definition of mediocrity.

After watching the latest season of STID, my overriding feeling now is that of pity. I just feel sorry for them.

RIP to that Ian Wake fella too. Poor bloke didn't have much but adored that football club and that has to be strongly admired.

Also, I may have been away from the NE for too long, but does everyone in Sunderland seem to have the same fat, white, pallid sagging faces and yellow teeth? Lord they're monstrous.

I've watched the first couple of episodes of this series and I've never seen so many unhealthy-looking people as those in this documentary. Not even on trips to Blackpool, and that takes some doing.

I’d just stick him on gardening leave until 2026 regardless.

£20m is fuck all if he cements a top 4 place for Man Utd in years to come.

Exactly this. £20m is a pittance when you consider how much they and the media are crowing about nabbing him from us. Double it to £40m and we are talking….and he still can’t start working for them till 2nd September.

Posted in the General NUFC thread, I'm at the ballot workshop thing on Tuesday. I'll report back the craic. If anyone wants me to bring up or ask specific stuff please lmk or get in touch.

Please make the point that fans absolutely MUST be allowed to choose where they sit within the stadium if they are going to persist with this.

I applied for this workshop too and got nowhere. Couldn’t even win a ballot to talk about the ballot. [emoji38]

If we are staying at SJP I want to see it completely transformed like the Bernabau has been. Think just extending the Gallowgate would be a short term fix at huge cost, I’m hoping they’ve got something up their sleeve that blows everyone’s mind and makes SJP one of the best stadiums around.

It definitely needs to happen on that kind of level if we truly want to challenge the likes of Man Utd and Liverpool on a long-term basis. We need a mountain of revenue to come from our stadium and a tarted up SJP simply won’t cut it.

That’s total nonsense as @TheBrownBottle has pointed out literally the day after ksa & qatar reached an agreement over bein & the block the takeover went thru. Staveley & co have since said they were surprised how quickly it started moving.

I'm not disputing that. The point I made was that I believe that PIF offered to sort out the BEIN dispute long before October 2021 but the PL simply put more obstacles in the way. The court case eventually made them back away from those obstacles and allowed it to go through based on paying the compo to BEIN alone.

its hard to argue with some of the points being made but its the vitriol and the manner in which its being done.

there will come a time when its acceptable for our expectations to rise beyond a team that just tries. we will eventually need to start winning things or at least be there or thereabouts.

maybe just a bit too soon for it all now though.

That's the thing with that place though. They can't criticise without resorting to catastrophising.

That Deschain character on there is the worst....an absolute drama queen, and flip-flops all the time, depending on how a game pans out.

You need to give the KSA govt a ring, and tell them that they wasted the cost of a phone call to the PL to find out what it would take to resolve everything, and they wasted $1bn in paying off BeIN the day before the takeover miraculously went through.

It's not that I don't think resolving the piracy issue was what unblocked it. I just don't believe that it took PIF 18 months to offer to do that. I reckon they offered to sort it very early on in the saga but the PL just put more obstructions in the way, at the behest of their six overlords.

Once the whole thing went nuclear with the televised hearing, the PL just said "ok, sort out your with dispute with BEIN.....like you offered to do so 18 months ago.....and we will pass it through"

  10. 4 hours ago, Stifler said:

    They absolutely wouldn’t have.

The piracy ended long before the ‘agreement’, and the feeds and subscription through BeIN was restored before then as well.

What swung it our way was that on the Friday before, a judge allowed for evidence against the Premier League to be used, and to be used publicly. Evidence that the Premier League did not want to be used.

It's amazing how people still can't see it. The thing dragged on for 18 months and then as soon as the PL's QC had his arse handed to him live on a stream the whole thing was resolved within a fortnight. Piracy my arse.

  11. The facade might not be to everyone's taste (personally I think it looks amazing) but the inside of the Bernabeu is hands down the best layout for seats in a football stadium IMO. It's got the perfect mix of great views for everyone & steep stands/proper roof that create an enclosed, imposing & intimidating environment. I'd love it if we built a near replica of that layout. We can debate how it should look on the outside after that.

Ah God you're right; it's the same tune isn't it. Grim. One of my most uncomfortable football experiences ever was being sat with a bunch of Leeds fans singing that when they beat ManU at Old Trafford in the cup (Beckford winner).

Yep, it was notorious in the 80s and I think it was Leeds who invented it as they truly despised Man Utd. I think the rivalry between the two of them stems from the antagonism around Munich tbh.

As far as I'm aware, it was also Leeds who started the Spurs/Auschwitz song. They were a horrible bunch back then.

  13. Another reason I'm fairly sure it was associated with Man U back then is because of the grim way the tune was converted into the song about the Munich disaster. Alas, I do remember NUFC fans taunting them with it on the two visits I made to Old Trafford in the 80s.

    Who?

Sunderland fans must wistfully wish that Manure still sing it with the same lyrics. "They still sing about little old Sunlun, marra"

I always feared that manure could have sung this but hearing that makes me feel far more comfortable with it

Be afraid, unfortunately. It was sung by them in the late 70s & early 80s religiously. NUFC fans never actually sung it at all in the same period. Weirdly it took off with our lot decades later, when Man U had basically ditched it from their songbook. As far as I was aware though, they were the original creators of it.
