Interesting quote from Krul. They definately went for it for that period of time & then relaxed to much after the goal.

That's very relevant to the topic of passing, cheers. Quite pertinent to the topic of winning football matches, which Alan Pardew (the perosn being discussed in this thread) is paid to do. Just broadening the debate is all I don't think anyone's debating that we won the game. Could've fooled me. We beat a confident Norwich side. Who don't forget, beat us 4-2 last time out. The point discussed is how we seem to win games by solitary goals usually dependent on some outstanding play by one of of Cisse, Ba or HBA instead of teamwork with a coherent formation and tactics (unless you consider the hoofing in the second half as tactics). The problem with the model that we are adopting is that we don't dominate games and can at anytime lose/draw games that in theory we should/can win. It also gives us next to zero chance (Man Utd game aside) of taking points of the top 4-6 teams even at home, which is what we should be targeting if we are serious on getting into Europe. Maybe some will have to wait till we get a tonking from Liverpool for the penny to drop. Dependant on outstanding play? Cant really say that in this example when Cisse missed more sitters than class goals he scored. We dont dominate games no, it hasnt made us less likely to lose/draw games than we should win in theory. Look back at the season, bar unusual circumstances we pretty much win every game you'd expect under Pardew. I made a thread on this yesterday. We definately do less well against the top 7 but its to be expected. Which games so far against them would you have expected more from us? Swansea at home, Wolves at home, Sunderland at home, West Brom at home. Definately more points on offer in those games. Wolves/Sunderland yeah & individual circumstances still decided those games. Swansea/Wbrom i wouldnt say we could have expected much more.

Jonas/Marveaux LW, Santon/BenArfa RW would be fun.

The first 20-30 minutes was some of the best football we've played all season. The system looked class, we were fluid when we attacked. After that it just fell away for no reason atall, complete confidence turn around. Confusing stuff.
-
Theres nowt wrong with a player trying to skin the opposition in his own penalty area, no chance that could go wrong. Worked well in the 2nd half when he cleared back it into our own penalty area aswell

Definately need someone whos able to calm it down. Finds space, takes and recieves a few one/twos. Gets it rolling. Scholes did it endlessly today, its a basic ability for him.
-
Hes definately suffering for confidence. That moment where he actually got scared to kick the ball was just desperate stuff.
-
We just need someone to calm us the hell down when we're under pressure, we fall to pieces. Whether thats Pardew, Krul, or a ball playing midfielder like Cabaye. Someone definately needs to step up in those moments, we dont deal with it atall well. We continue trying to make something instantly rather than just passing it around the defence/goalkeeper & regaining control for a bit.

Class goal, missed two sitters really. But his ability to make runs is brilliant, many wouldnt even create those chances in the first place. Will get goals for us.
-
Aye lots saw that, utterly bizarre moment. He wasnt even covering anything. His decision making is all over the place at times.
-
He wasnt that bad today for me, just the usual general few poor decisions/distribution. Santon on the right being able to overlap Ben Arfa just looks to have loads of potential surely.

Agree with this. As easy as it is to blame Pardew there a few players underperforming which is not necassarily down to the way Pardew is setting us up to play. It is hard to play a controlling, possession style all game when we have players such as Williamson and Simpson who simply don't have the technical ability or composure to do it. Yep agree with all of that, good posts.
-
Just been interviewed. Said we had 8 senior players with slight injuries yesterday, thats what lead to the formation. Players very tired. Not our best performance, understands why people were unhappy he took Ben Arfa off but he had to do enough to get the win.
-
You guys really think hes telling Williamson to boot it? The guy does it becuase hes crap on the ball and cant deal with periods where we sustain pressure. Its got nowt to do with Pardew, we did the same for a period after we scored the 1st goal before HT. We just miss a few passes, start misscontrolling it, make a few fouls etc Krul gets the ball more so we boot it more, defence becomes more edgy in possession. Its a knock on effect.

Had a class game. Done himself loads of justice there.
-
Jonas got an assist as our LB & our motm was Perch. The two singular issues people had with the lineup before the game. Give Pardew credit.
-
Nice 1st half, team went to pieces 2nd half for no reason
-
Simpson get back man jesus christ, guy doesnt learn
-
All our attacking talent could barely control the ball 10 minutes ago.
-
Havent even attempted the left wing this half, its bizarre. All our best chances came from it.

Its not like we havent had the chances is it
