I think quality is far more important than experience. Good players will keep us in the division, no matter how old they are. That said, I know nothing about this lad.
That's the problem - no one does. Total unproven - played 17 games of 1st team football.

Not a case of ‘defending’ anyone. The club appears to have set itself rules for this window. Wood is better than Gayle, therefore improves the side. Young lad from Reims unknown. It’s always been my take on this window - young Europeans and experienced (and cheap) PL experienced players are the likely signings. The ‘world’s richest club’ patter has made some raise their expectations re who is coming through the door too quickly - not helped by the bullshit merchants in the press.
If the owners want to get us out this mess - they're going to have to get the cheque book out and blow any budget they had planned. Trying to haggle with Burnley over the likes of Chris Wood when we've a crucial game in 5 days times isn't the way to go about it.

Experienced for what?
For having the responsibility of scoring the goals to keep us up. Mitro had similar pressures on him and he had more first team experience than this lad.
-
Great prospect but not the answer to our problem - no where near enough experienced.
-
How can people possibly be defending Wood? Look at Burnley's position in the League - if he can't get them out the relegation zone what makes people think he can get us out??
-
Get the cheque book out and put £50mil for Patrik Schick - much more like it.

If Wood really does have a release clause, then activating it solely with the ulterior motive of weakening Burnley is probably worth doing imo.
It's not weakening them by much let's be fair - and they'll probs use the money to buy someone better.

Ban tweets by Luke Edwards - Chris Wood - get lost.

Just throw them an offer they can't refuse - I don't care if we over pay. We're desperate - that's how it rolls sometimes.
-
Can't rely on this lad to keep us up - need another striker for sure.

Mark Douglas seems to think Lille have moved the goalposts.
Every club just sees us as a big fat cheque book

Martin Samuels was pushing that line, but I don't really buy it. Coutinho went to Villa because he already knew him from when they played together, that's no different to Howe and Trippier having been at the same club.
Digne seems to have preferred them more down to being further south, and currently in a far healthier league position. I don't think this has much to do with Gerrard.
In World football every player knows who Gerrard is, I very much doubt the same can be said of Howe. Just look at the Keegan affect and the players he attracted to the club in the early days. It makes a difference.

It’s exactly the sort of signing that will leave Villa in Everton’s position in 2/3 years from now, if they don’t make that breakthrough to being a top 4 club with CL money.
They simply are not a club that can carry a few players on wages that high.
Nor are we (right now) so it’s a good thing we’re not following that plan. It’s also entirely likely we’ll see a wage cap introduced at some point soon also.
I would have thought it'd destroy their wage structure. I'd actually be surprised if they paid it as they are not as desperate for a LB as us.

I don't think we're in a position to haggle

If we wasn't fighting relegation I'm convinced he would come here.. our league position is the factor here not our pulling power.
I do think Gerrard is a factor in this- no disrespect to Howe but Gerrard is a bigger name in the game. I wouldn’t underestimate the impact of having a big name as manager.

we dont sign a striker this week, then we dont beat watford.
I'd add a CD, LB to that - Dennis and King are going to rip us to shreds.

Expensive that, just to finish 12th.
tbh - I would have no problem with Newcastle paying him that to sign. We desperately need a LB.

Athletic: "The 28-year-old wants to join a club that are either already in a European competition or have a serious chance of qualifying for next season. Villa are now confident their exciting project — fronted by new signing Philippe Coutinho — has convinced Digne that switching to the Midlands is the right move."
More like Villa are willing to pay him his £200k. Not many clubs would.

It was never going to easy to attract quality players and as we're finding out it's near on impossible.

I genuinely don't think we are after either of Wood and Cantwell. It's not how Arabs roll. I can see them wanting more shiny players.
Depends whose advising them - atm survival is the priority so can see them being swayed.

Can't see Burnley letting him go tbh. Maybe it's a plan by the owners to weaken Burnley by buying their whole squad.

Chris Wood man - this weekend just gets worse
