I really like Dubravka but just like a lot of the side his confidence is shot. There weren't enough leaders on the pitch yesterday to get the teams' collective heads out there arses. I hope that happens with the introduction of Trippier et al.

It's strange though - it's not so much his confidence it's his concentration.  He seems to switch off.

  2. My reflection on the game is: regardless of all the failings within the squad - it's good enough to beat a League 1 team. This was the perfect game to score 3, 4 goals - get the confidence up with the players ahead of the Premier League fixtures and give the fans a game to enjoy.  The fact we looked poor against them for me the buck stops at Howe.  It's his job to get the players up for this game and to get the tactics right.  He failed on both.

De Gea levels of faking injury when play is still ongoing. Awful to see.

Obviously a glutton for punishment. As I watched the goal back about 20 times. Still no idea why he doesn’t go at the striker’s feet and hold onto the ball? He comes flying out to make himself big like Ironside is going to get a shot off. Then just jumps over the ball. So he obviously could have got there with his hands.

Just seems to roll under him - he's under very little pressure as well.  He seems to be lacking concentration.

He’s the least of our worries and is a good shot stopper, but he doesn’t command his box at all and is prone to rash decision makings, get rid long term.

They errors are mounting up though.

I'd play Gayle up front before ASM. At least he's got it out of his system before it really costs us.

Especially against a League One side - 100% agree.

It's pretty clear that this is ultimately the issue.

The new owners ultimately decided to go with a manager whose philosophy is to play attacking football, and they felt that with the signings in January it would ultimately see the teams fortunes turn around, and the fans would appreciate that style more. I still think that will indeed ultimately be the case too.

The alternative would have been to go for a more defensive minded manager to try and grind out results and keep the team up, but then do you just stick with that longer term after? And if they had gone that route would you then back such a manager with players for that style in January if that's not how you ultimately want the side to play going forward?

If they really believe in Howe's philosophy and overall approach then just get him in and let him start building this thing with them from the ground up. If we are able to get players in that then gel better with the manager and keep us up then great, and if not, if we do end up going down for a year then so be it, and we'll just have to re-start from there.

With Howe I think he clearly sold them a vision but like you say he has a style he wants to play but it's clear it's not suited to our squad.  There is a place and time for us to play nice attacking football but now is not it.  We need results - horrible back to the wall ground out results.

    Miggy 0 goals 0 assists

    Willock 0 goals 0 assists

    Shelvey 1 goal 0 assists

    Fraser 0 goals 1 assist

    Almost 60 appearances between them.

A fit and motivated Wijnaldum is a world-class player, my worry is if he’s been burnt out under Klopp. Like Geremi was!

Fair comment. Anyone see him play for PSG?  If so how's he done?
