  1. His reputation and the fact that slimeballs like Phil Neville are calling for bans will be more of a bearing factor on if he gets charged, as opposed to the incident itself. To me it's clear that he tries to use his body weight to push Lanzini off the ball and leans in with his forearm, which results in an accidental elbow - especially due to Lanzini's size and that he slinks down when he plays that pass. Because of his reputation people will go down the "he meant it because he's f***ing stupid" rhetoric but I just don't buy that.

    This ^

  2. I'm pretty confident he'll stay, he would've walked already if things were that bad. He just aired his views and Ashley responding created a media frenzy.

Surely 1st September is the litmus test? i.e. he's seeing if Ashley relents and spends some money.  That for me is the time to be worried i.e. when Ashley defers to typo and spend nought.

  3. Important for a new striker at any club to get a goal fairly early, otherwise the pressure can quickly become a burden. Glad he got one today.

Goal aside he did really well - won loads of headers, nice flick ons, closed down - he worked really hard today.

  4. If Hayden and Merino do well in the next game I don't think Rafa will be in a rush to drop either for Shelvey straight away after being let down like that. As captain too.

Merino just added so much 'calm' to the midfield.  There was none of the 'hollywood' passes that Shelvey always tries - he just keeps things simple, but also tackles, wins headers, closes down - but most important he 'dictates' the tempo.  He was brilliant.

  5. Looks to be ahead of Hayden in the pecking order already judging by the subs in the last couple of games.

Interesting to see if him and Shelvey will work as a pair.

Think Hayden deserves to stay in the team tbh, wouldn't be surprised if Hayden and Merino is the main CM partnership.

This - we looked solid in the midfield.

  6. Honestly would support a campaign to get as many home game abandoned as possible. Get the club demoted, ruin any cash flow ashley can get out the club.

People need to stop buy from his shops - that'll annoy him the most.

  7. I don't believe he really wants to sell either - am not buying that.  You don't treat an asset like a toilet and shit on it year on year if you want it's value to grow.  The club is just a vehicle for his horrible brand - it's all he cares about.

  8. Didn't used to think West Ham would have a chance of getting him if they bin Bilic.

Seriously reconsidering. Reckon they'd definitely pay that £6m as well.

    Without a doubt.

  9. If he leaves I'm gone, simple as, I can't follow what Ashley has turned this "club" into and if he loses the best thing that's happened to it since sir Bobby then he can f***ing rot in what's left of it for me.

ditto - are hard as it will be I've just had enough.

It was the use of that word — project — which was most telling. Why? Well, there no longer is one. Instead, Benitez is talking of the day when he will leave the club.

‘Normally, managers talk about projects saying they need three, four or five years. I’m not talking about that, because you never know in football,’ he said, ignoring his statement from May, the month in which he signed a three-year contract.

‘My aim is trying to improve things, so when I leave, whenever it is, I would like to be sure that the team and the football club will be better. When I said I would stay (in May) it was because of the city, the fans, the stature of the club, the Premier League and being close to my family.
