  1. Western PA boy raised on NHL, NFL, and MLB. In 2005, the NHL had a lockout, so I gave Fox Soccer a try... been hooked ever since. NUFC was the first game I watched. Crazy 17 years.
  2. Dumb question maybe... Here in the states, the NFL has GM's and coaches. The GM is responsible for bringing in players and the coach to coach the players. If NUFC don't have a DOF (who I'd assume would normally work with the manager), does the wishlist of players in/out fall to Howe then?
  3. Maybe NUFC is a sports washing interest, but it makes more sense that the PIF is actually diversifying in as many areas as possible. I'm sure they'll be more than happy to get the accolades a trophy or 15 nets them, but in the end, I really feel this is more about an investment and it's return.
  4. They bought the club knowing how the table looked. They also spent time sitting on their hands figuring out a few things, didn't get rid of Bruce right away, still no DoF... I don't think they care about the short term, it's the long term that they've invested in.
  5. I can't see the PIF walking away from Newcastle any time soon. Say ManU was available, they sell NUFC for 350/450 and then buy MU for what? Several Billion? Makes zero financial sense if you're investing. MU value will go up, but slightly, whereas NUFC, 300 invested, put more into infrastructure, players, etc... within a decade the club will be worth 6 to 7 times what they initially paid. Investments are usually a slow and steady build. The return on building NUFC into a mega club is worth much more as a long term investment in my opinion.
  6. I don't think money is going to be a problem, whether it's 6 million or 11 million, or whatever it would take to prize Benitez from Everton. The PIF have to view NUFC as an investment and will do what they need to do to make the investment pay off. They bought the team for 300 million and probably view the end product to be worth over a billion. The infrastructure part is probably the easiest to plan out, as there really aren't many variables there. The team and it's success? Fraught with variables. I'd like to think that they will initially pay a premium to build a staff from top to bottom that has a real goal to make NUFC compete value wise with the Barca's, the Real's, the ManU's. If they want Ten Hag or Rafa, I can't see how they couldn't tempt them to come. Yes, Ten Hag may be playing CL right now, but he could make a mint building something enormous, something bigger than any club in the world. I'd like to think the decision will be more of location, length of control, guarantee's, and last but certainly not least, morals.
  7. It all seemed to go quickly once the CAT happened. Who knows what was said during the blackout of the session, might have been a massive blow to the PL. Outside of that, it really wouldn't surprise me if somewhere down the road, KSA scores the PL TV rights when BeIN's contract runs out, maybe that was a closed door agreement that happened. The CAT suit didn't seem to be going the PL's way, then all of the sudden the KSA allows BeIN and they kill BeOutQ... and NUFC sale is approved in days (along with the CAT suit being dropped). I don't really believe in coincidences. Also, the PL definitely did this all behind all the other clubs backs. No tin foil hat on, it is all just so odd considering how bad things were over the prior year for this to all transpire before the CAT came back with a judgement.
  8. Been a lurker for a long while.... kind of dropped off halfway through the Ashley years. Been fun seeing/reading the new excitement though. Anyway, had a question in regards to KSA/PIF: All of the companies that they've invested in seem to be part of their long term investment plan for when the black gold is gone. They seem to be investing wisely as well (plus diversifiying). In regards to NUFC, while they have the overwhelming 80% ownership of the club, they aren't the sole owner. Everyone points to "sports washing", but instead of sports washing, why isn't anyone bringing up the idea that this was just another smart investment by the PIF? They're probably going to turn NUFC into a multi billion dollar valued club over the next decade... taking a 240 million purchase and possibly turning it into a 1.4 billion share (both at 80% of sell and est value of 1.75). I get the angst and anger of this purchase, but if KSA wanted to attempt to sports wash, why not buy a London team? Or a team with top world (current) name value? Seems like NUFC and Newcastle hit a couple of sweet spots with KSA... price point, fan base, port city, and plenty of opportunity. Sorry for the long wind, just seems like a point that I've not read about yet... or has been buried in the avalanche of sports washing.
