When I first went to watch Newcastle at SJP when i moved up there as a student, I remember seeing Gascoigne, who was really unknown at that point, swanning around with that chest out and head back poise he had,  basically owning the pitch. Would have been start of 86-7 season.

I genuinely said to my mate on the day, that guy is going to be absolutely top class. You could see it then.

Still reckon we’re going to do the business tomorrow big man?

Losing an FA Cup would hurt a lot more than a bog standard league defeat.  We haven’t played these in the cup for nearly 70 years - it isn’t a ten-a-penny fixture.  We’re levels above right now - there is zero excuse not to go there and beat the cunts.

Totally agree. But if we do lose tomorrow I won’t be going to bed thinking about how we’ve not beaten them for 70 years in the cup. Just be another one to take on the chin and move on for me.

Massive in terms of the potential to inject confidence in the team again, massive for many fans, not massive in terms of a standalone game. I’m less worried about the result and more worried about people’s reactions to it if we lose in all honesty

Same. Derbies of years gone by were more a relegation battle, this isn’t. If we get beat yep it’ll be embarrassing but so what? We’re on an upward trajectory and in a few years we’ll be levels above. It’s not as if we’re going to lose to them forever.

Not using it or allowing it to be an excuse was how I interpreted it.

Worrying. Running the players into the ground and then not taking responsibility for it.

Not sure how to take his comments about running on empty.

Is he saying the players aren't running on empty, or that he's just not using that as an excuse?

It won't have been "natural". It's the same driving force as City & Chelsea that is capped by FFP.

We'll use some of the same mechanisms they both now use to maintain their advantage - esp. build one of the best academy's in world football, sign the best youngsters in world football, sell them at massive profits. That wouldn't have been natural.

You fancy Newcastle to do the business the morra big man?

    Mixed.

I think we will give you a decent game, I just hope our young lads don't either lose their heads or just completely shit themselves.

The atmosphere will be heightened, Alot of people are frustrated and angry, but that will hopefully channelled in making the ground as hostile as possible. Fans don't have an issue with the players, they've gave us a decent few seasons since promotion from L1 and they're all a committed bunch.

First goal crucial, Still expect you to have too much quality but you never know.

Mixed as well. One minute I'm convinced we'll be professional and win with a solid performance, the next minute I think we'll continue our bad run of form.
