  1. Its not a bad point especially considering Palace look like a very decent side now under Viera & they were unlucky not to beat Arsenal at the emirates. But, and its big one, the people running the club are far too slow in appointing a new manager & dealing with major issues such as sacking Bruce, we need a quality manager now (Favre would be my choice) who is going to start implementing a style of play & bring a new energy to the team. Jones, is a competent assistant but thats it & the players are not going to take too much notice of him, especially the likes of St.Maxim who was really poor today. The tactical set up was very similar to Bruce & I was surprised with that considering if Jones does well here, he could be in the frame to get the job himself at least until the end of the season. He had an opportunity to be bold & stake a claim for the management position, instead it was very Brucesque. The new owners need to realise that its all well and good taking your time to appoint the right manager & interviewing many candidates but we dont have that luxury as were in a serious relegation fight & have extremely important fixtures coming up. It may not be the right decision long term but it needs to be quick because this group of players need to understand their positions & careers are on the line now & their not going to feel that with Jones. If we get relegated, it would be a disaster, the new owners need to understand the severity of the situation & get the finger out with appointing a new manager.
  2. Need a new manager in immediately, we dont have time
  3. Ritchie is no great shakes but he's being played completely out of position, he's a right attacking midfielder, not a bloody left wing back. Surprised when I saw the team lineup and structure today, really no change at all. I know were limited in the players we have but the sooner we get a new manager the better
  4. He brought up that connection, Newcastle or the media didnt. Yah maybe he's talking nonsense about the connection with Robson but when he said that, he wasnt exactly saying he wasnt interested. For me, it was definitely a case of, if he wasnt employed by Roma, he'd relish it & love the opportunity of sticking it to Manu, Spurs & Chelsea, Pep at city, with a board behind him & a strong financial budget to shape the team how he wants. We could do alot worse than Mourinho. Lampard, Martinez, Rooney & co would be massive step downs from him, id rather give Jones the job until summer rather than give it to any of those few
  5. I dont agree, looking back on his time now with Manu, he was actually quite successful, won two more cups than Ole did despite Ole spending more money & having more time than he did. Also having to deal with the likes of Pogba whom I'm sure a lot of people & supporters would side with him now over. Before that, very successful at every club he was at. I think Spurs was always going to be a poisoned chalice for him, they were heavily restricted in terms of their financial spend because of the stadium & that squad is not the type of squad you're ever going to get success with. Take Son & Kane out of that team & they are midtable at best. Kane by the time Mourinho arrived already had his head turned by City. Dealing with overinflated egos such as Delli Alli & Justin Rose. He still managed to get them to the league cup final despite being screwed over by Levy in the end. He has Roma fourth so is currently doing better than the manager we are being linked with there, Fonseca. Last three seasons before they finished, 5th, 6th & 7th. I agree he can be a divisive figure but I think if he is properly backed and supported by the board, he will definitely be successful & win you things. He didnt have that at either Manu or Spurs.
  6. Anyone else think that maybe the new owners are waiting around for a really big name to become available, eg, Benitez, Mourinho, Rodgers to a lesser degree. If results take a turn for the worse, any three of them could find themselves under serious pressure or even out of a job & then the Newcastle job becomes alot more attractive. Everton have had a decent start but not amazing, all it would take would be 2 or 3 bad results and the fans would really start to give him flak especially because of his connection to Liverpool, Mourinho's Roma lost 6-1 last night and he's started his usual stuff of criticizing the players so it looks like the wheels are starting to come off there already & Rodgers has already had a poor start to this season with Leicester. Mourinho has already said he has a connection to the club through Robson, Benitez was a former manager who is still loved & Rodgers I think would love the possibilities of the kind of transfers we'd be able to pull off should he get the position. I think any of the above 3 would be better than 90% of the managers we're currently being linked with. The above applies to Poch too, any sort of downward spiral in form & the pressure on him will become intense, seemed like he was even considering the possibility of going back to spurs until recently which is crazy considering how they treated him. Wouldn't say he's actually enjoying the lack of competitiveness in Ligue 1 & id imagine it would be very easy to fall out with many of the egos in that dressing room, he's probably walking on eggshells around them. For me, none of the managers we are being linked capture the imagination & I think that's what the new owners are really looking for. I like Favre & think he would be best of a fairly mediocre bunch but should we beat palace tomorrow, I can see Jones definitely being given more time than originally planned. Imagine if the takeover had happened in the summer, id say we would have had Benitez & Mourinho competing for the job.
  7. Anyone else think there's probably too many people involved currently in the decision making process at Newcastle, it seems like 3-4 parties have to sign off on any important decision & that's leading to indecision & delays. Bruce should have been gotten rid of well over a week ago & even if they were going to give him his final game in charge, he should have been gone Sunday, Monday at the latest. Since the Saudi's own 80%, they should be the ones making the decisions obviously but it seems like Stavely & Co have more say than just a minor shareholder. I hope its not going to be a consistent theme throughout their ownership especially now when were in the middle of a relegation dogfight & decisions need to be made quickly to get us out of this mess. I could see it becoming a serious problem if we are trying to sign players in the January transfer window & because of delays, the news gets out and we end up missing out on the player to another club. The old adage, too many cooks spoil the broth comes to mind
  8. Its behind a paywall, any chance you could post the contents of it?
  9. For me the main issue with Lampard is that they didnt seem to have any football identity or consistent way of playing football in his final year at Chelsea, mainly lumping balls into the box and hoping for the best. I will give it to him that he did reasonably well at Derby & in his first season at Chelsea but not outstanding. When the pressure came on in the second season, he seemed to fold. That's not the type of manager we need, the manager who comes into this job is coming into an extremely high pressure situation with the risk of relegation whilst having to deal with the expectations of the board & the expectations of the fans. I think given our current predicament, we need an old hand, not someone young & relatively inexperienced. Thats why Lucian Favre would be a good choice for me, he's an old hand and has been in a relegation battle before. He took over Borussia Mönchengladbach when they only had 16 points from their opening 22 games & managed to save them from the drop. And over the years, he steadily worked them up the table without the funds he would have at Newcastle. He's out of work currently so we could get him in quickly, he's also managed at the top level. He's the stand out choice, yes he has no PL experience & isnt fluent in English but he is the standout choice of the managers mentioned. Also, he signed & managed Haaland at Dortmund, they apparently have a good relationship so who knows:)
