Fuck Liverpool and all that, but im glad they took a hard stance on this to let this level of incompetence come to light. Hopefully it will force some changes.
-
Do you have the exact wording of the rule? Pretty sure there is a rule that the ref have to go by the decisions made by VAR regarding offsides. So rules were already broken by letting the game go on with the wrong decision. The question then becomes which rulebreaking does less harm.
-
Shouldn’t have been the decision of the one that made the mistake at least, should have let the ref know and let him make the decision.
-
Has it been made clear whether “check complete” is part of the standard protocol or not? Human error is one thing, thought out protocols another. Can’t wrap my head around why the communication between VAR and refs doesn’t include a confirmation of the decision being made by VAR.
-
Seems like it was only England that fucked up? First by saying check complete then by not letting the ref know the mistake happened despite Michael Oliver calling out for it? Why couldnt he just have let the ref know and let him make the decision? Also uses a long time to realize what has happened after the other guys are saying to him that the onfield decision was offside, just responding with "what?" 10 seconds later. This goes beyong standard human error. Doubt it was corruption though, no amount of money is worth making such a fool of yourself

Why do people think incompentency like this is unavoidable? Even the refs here is Norway dont make these mistakes, and those guys dont even have it as a full time job. Whats so hard about refereeing in the premier league?
-
VAR isnt the problem, it just exposes the incompentency if you wanna call it that. The people in charge of refereeing in PL needs replacing. And the new ones coming in also needs to be held to account if they fuck up. Enough of this overprotecting the referees, if they cant handle the heat they can look for a less media-exposed job.
-
Must have read it wrong somewhere then. Doesnt really matter if its 2 or 5 though. Still find it impossible to believe that both fucked up that big at the same time. You had both the reactions of the players and the zoom in on the linesman. So only benign explanation for me is that the guy who communicated with the ref fucked up. But then its weird that the other guy didnt react that they didnt draw up the lines, which they ofcourse must do when they overturn a decision.
-
Did none of the 5 people in the VAR room notice that the linesman had put up his flag? Or is it just the guy that communicated with the ref that fucked up? Strange rules that you cant go back 5 seconds after the ball is in play. And "check complete" must be the most stupid thing ive ever heard, who could ever imagine it getting misunderstood at one point?

Have you seen a replay of it from the other angle? Clearly wasnt a straight leg, even after his foot rolled of the ball. Huge difference between the leg being straight and the leg being almost straight.
-
It may look straight from that angle, but from others you can clearly see that it wasnt. And that isnt what I would call raised foot. You can get lots of still images with a leg going in like that during a week of games. You also have to question why VAR didnt show the other angles during the replay. It looks way worse from the angle they showed the ref. From behind and the other side you see that the leg wasnt straight and how his foot changed angle after rolling over the ball. But VAR didnt show these, only replayed the other 2 angles 3 times each. Why not give the ref all the information for such an important decision?
-
Yes i was quite dissapointed about his interview.
-
This could be easily verified by the communication between the refs i guess. Insane if true.
-
Cant be true.
-
The leg wasnt straight, his foot rolled of the ball making him hit with his studs first. I think its a little harsh and not an obvious wrong decision for the ref to give yellow. And if it isnt an obvious mistake VAR has no business getting involved.
-
It encourages refs to bother to look closely at dissallowed goals lol.
-
Clubs should have a representative in the VAR room and be allowed to appeal one decision during the game and demand VAR to take a second look. If the appeal goes through they get another.
-
Not multiple people at the same time atleast.
-
Earlier decisions in Liverpools favor are irrelevant unless im claiming there to be a major conspiracy involving all the refs in the league, which I`m not. Corruption can be much more simple than that.
-
Looking at a picture is not a new technology, neither does the offside rule require interpretation in this case. And it doesnt have to be a major conspiracy for it to be corruption involved.
-
Even religious people are mostly competent at their full time job. Huge fuckups can happen, but to multiple people at the same time? How many VAR refs are there?
-
Its hard to believe one guy being so incompetent, but multiple VAR refs? I just dont see it. Its their full time job..
-
People should atleast entertain the idea that there may be corruption after seeing decisions like that.

I didnt see him making too many of those passes last year. But yes im starting to realize his importance to the team after watching us with and without him this season.
