Villa must be foaming that they didn't walk away from Milner when we cuptied him at Coventry.

We might not sign him but I wouldn't read much into last night.

You had to go back to 2008!

It is fairly standard practise that if a player is near to leaving they don’t play, especially in cup games against lower league opponents. Guehi may still join but it is a pisstake.

  2. Im pretty staggered they think its going to happen give Guehi just played 90mins in the first round of a cup game. To me it looks like Palace are not budging.

Perhaps.  I’m also aware that it would cost him money to do that, too.

He is missing out by not moving. If he’s on a 65m fee his wage is going to be big. By staying at CP he probably misses out on millions and millions.

  4. With Isak there’s probably more chance he goes if NUFC finish 4th, as he’s probably hit 25+ PL goals and someone like Barca may then make him their top target. Same with Bruno, if he drives a team into the CL again he’ll be even higher rated.

If it’s a 9th place finish everyone stays as they’ve been shite, so be careful what you wish for and enjoy the football instead of this panicking

Gordon & Isak will have to have brilliant seasons. No drop offs and no injuries

There’s also Barnes, Wilson, Willock and Joelinton who all contribute goals, it’s not a two person team. Longstaff also chips in and hopefully Tonali will as well.

I don’t like it either but it’s playing a bottom half PL player at RW, not Mrs Doubtfire

I think it's a good signing for Man Utd, I just don't understand the Sancho to Chelsea aspect.

Could be as simple as he has no other option. 3 days until window closes and won’t play for Man Utd, so better to take a chance at Chelsea.

Chelsea are probably pulling some PSR stunt which makes no sense in the real world but does in some PSR calculation

I read it as 30% of the profit sell on figure.

    So £50m minus £6m = £44m… 30% = £13.2m surely…

It’s 30% of what Peterborough get, not what Brentford get. Brentford have said it’s nothing to do with them

And some sources claim it doesn’t exist

By the end of the season, unless there are any changes, these are going to be our 30+ year old outfield players next summer (not including goalkeepers):

    Jacob Murphy - 30

    Krafth - 31

    Almiron - 31

    Lascelles - 31

    Dan Burn - 33

    Wilson - 33

    Schär - 33

    Trippier - 34

Going to have to fill some of these gaps eventually.

They’ve been really focussed on bringing down the age of the squad

Hall, Livra, Isak, Barnes, Botman, Osula, Tonali, Gordon, Bruno

Basically signed an entire side under 25. When the takeover happened except the Longstaffs, and Lewis who is poor, there were no young players in the squad

I have to be honest, I'm not sure what a good football podcast looks like now. Whether it's through fatigue, poor quality or a combination of that and other stuff, I'm just not that engaged with any of it. The Rest is Football is for me miles ahead of everything now because Lineker is engaging, his trips down memory lane are interesting, and they all have the gravitas to speak about these things.

Beyond that it's The Athletic - which is carried massively by JJ Bull's self depreciation vs everyone else's heightened sense of importance about what they're doing (talking in ridiculous detail about a fun game) - and JLM's podcast with Flav. All of them are good because of their authenticity, which is why the Ramble feels so shit now because that was why it was good, but now it feels like the furthest thing from that - everything feels set up, written down beforehand, false.

For all N-O's faults, I'd much rather read and engage with a post from ponsealeus or whoever else than have to put up with the average know-nowt podcast out there.

I stopped listening to the Ramble during Covid (as there were no games) and listened to one episode a few months ago. Could have been a clip show, they make all the same in jokes, the matches barely covered just self referential. (Keagan joke, Pete joke). They’re just phoning it in.

I like the Rest is Football but wonder what I’ll think of it when I’ve heard all their stories already

Can't understand why people can't hold out another five days to see how it pans out instead of melting down.

I'll be as gutted as anyone if we sign no one, but I doubt that'll be the case.

Keeps people entertained on a Bank Holiday Monday.

Entertains both the meltdowners, and people like me who get to post about not melting down. Everyone’s a winner !

Love Eddie as a manager, but throwing a hissy fit once Mitchell was brought in was not what was best for the club. It's clear Eddie is still dictating transfer policy, and it's at least part the reason why we've had such a bizarre window.

My patience, and others', with Eddie will be running thin if he the window closes as is and we didn't bring anyone in because they don't meet Eddie's laundry list of requirements to join the squad. Mitchell, a world class DoF, needs to be calling the shots with absolute authority if we want to make it to the next level - not Eddie, whose strengths are managerial.

You’ve driven yourself round the bend based on pure speculation.

  12. The absolute last thing a new sporting director would want is a slump where they have to remove the manager and get a new one in. Massive disruption and a fair chance the new manager goes wrong. Look at Chelsea as one example.

If you move jobs do you hope your colleagues are all shite so you can sack them and hire new people? Mitchell will hope Howe works wonders again as it makes everyone’s lives easier.

  13. The claims the Trafford deal are back to me suggests Guehi might be fully off now, and that budget is being reallocated.

GK, and one or both of CB/RW.

Im expecting either Guehi or other signings

  14. On outgoings I think we have to be realistic.

Fraser, Lewis, Ashby and Haydon will be loan deals for peanuts.

A GK will probably also exit due to numbers, again for peanuts.

After that potentially Targett if he wants first team football, but that’s it. Anyone else leaving weakens the first team squad.

The lesson from the summer in outgoings is if you want to see cash being brought in, then you have to sell players you like, as they are the ones with value.

  15. There’s been some insane takes over the last 6 months about his ability. All this heads gone stuff.

As I’ve noted before it’s not just his ability on the pitch it’s also his incredible leadership.

Howe should work to keep him for another year.
