Newcastle United plan to build the largest possible stadium on land next to St James’ Park, potentially increasing capacity to nearly 70,000. While 65,000 was initially considered ideal to ensure full attendance, club officials are exploring even larger options. High ticket demand and the massive turnout for the recent Carabao Cup celebrations have reinforced the need for more seats. Newcastle United plan to replace the greenspace used for their new stadium with a park where St James’ Park’s pitch currently sits. This would open up listed buildings behind the East Stand to the new park and create a boulevard leading to the stadium, making the project more appealing to local residents and Newcastle City Council.
