madras
Rather have 2 years of Owen than 15 mil. Who's bothered about 15 mil anyway? Mike isn't. 2 years of Owen means 20 games and 9 goals if the last two are anything to go by, to be fair to him the last two years shouldn't be repeated but you never know. what if he plays the vast majority of games between now and the end of the season, plays well and gets a load of goals ? will you still think of the previous two seasons ? Guest alex
If the clause exists it shows two things - poor / desperate negotiation on the part of the previous regime and it also shows how much (or rather how little) he's bothered about being here. I honestly reckon the way he's been going on lately he's trying to get out with a 'the fans forced me out'-type scenario. That way he keeps his golden image intact (if he just deserted us having hardly played without an excuse that wouldn't be the case). I hope he stays though, for the record. Me too, but I can understand people's frustration. And the club faces a difficult choice if, as seems likely, he has no intention of signing a new contract with us. Guest alex
Fair or not, he'll get shitloads of stick if he comes back injured this week btw. Let's hope that doesn't happen.

I think its safe to say had Owen been fit for the last 2 years and he'd scored say 20 goals per season and we'd still finished mid-table last year he would have left. To be fair he won't play forever and will just want to play at the highest level he can (in the champs league). If we don't get into Europe this year he'll most likely be off. I'm not saying I blame him, I just think he's pretty clever and could be manipulating this situation to his advantage.
