Dave
I'm not saying he or Barton did anything wrong. I'm saying the concept of them letting someone off for anything just because they're the current darling is fucking ridiculous but sadly the truth. Segun Oluwaniyi
I'm not saying he or Barton did anything wrong. I'm saying the concept of them letting someone off for anything just because they're the current darling is f***ing ridiculous but sadly the truth. Very true...and its not like Rooney has a sparkling history of discipline either.
Guest Stephen927
He'll probably get a fine for trying to incite the home fans. That and he is everybodys favourite Pantomine Villain at the moment.
Skirge
JK has told him to stop kissing the badge.. http://images.dailyexpress.co.uk/img/dynamic/67/285x214/68279_1.jpg KINNEAR: KISSING HAS TO STOP, JOEY JOEY BARTON has been told to forget his badge-kissing antics by Newcastle manager Joe Kinnear until he has scored a hat-trick. Barton infuriated Sunderland fans in Saturday’s North-east derby – a decision which may have endeared him to Newcastle supporters but hardly helped in his newly-expressed desire to be a “role model” for errant youngsters. Barton’s gesture was greeted by a volley of bottles and coins and although it didn’t spark the violence which marred the derby match, it certainly didn’t help. Magpies boss Kinnear, who looks set to start with Barton in midfield tonight against West Brom as Nicky Butt is injured, has jokingly told him to curtail the “curse of the modern footballer” (badgekissing) until he has scored a few goals. “I will probably say to him that you can kiss the badge again if you score a hat-trick,” said Kinnear. “My message to the fans would be, just get behind him and consider the position we are in. “Supporters want to see players who are totally committed and he is. As long as they see that they are prepared to forgive and forget. “What I say to Joey is the only way he can win over these people is to show what he can do on the pitch – just get on with it and let them make their own assessment. “Nicky Butt’s knee injury leaves the door open for Joey to start. He drove us forward well when he came on against Sunderland. He’s good player and I am not going to get drawn into all that criticism he’s receiving. “He has got great fitness levels, two good feet, he is a good finisher and has to be one of best passers of the ball at the club. He can actually see it and thread that pass through. He does that in training all the time – sees the pass early and delivers. “He adds something different to us. He is very forward-thinking and I like to see that in midfield players. I like them to join in in the last third of the pitch. He likes to play quick football in and around the penalty area and can give opponents problems. “Nicky Butt has been one of best midfielders in the world and he gives you something as well, stability and he’s tough as old boots. “Joey is different. I had similar players at Wimbledon. I don’t think I had anyone playing for me at Wimbledon who didn’t have a police record! They are characters. I’m not saying what he did was right and he would be the first to admit that. I am not going to push that under the carpet but judge him on his football because he is a decent footballer.” Although Barton’s track record off the pitch has been nothing short of appalling, on it he has also struggled since moving to Newcastle 15 months ago for £5.8million. Plenty of Magpies fans are still entirely undecided about his worth to the team, regardless of his criminal record, but Kinnear hopes he is afforded another chance. “I hope there are no protests from fans who don’t want him here,” said Kinnear. “Just remember Kevin Keegan took the line he did and was very supportive and gave him 100 per cent backing. I’ve been here a few weeks and he’s been a model of consistency. I haven’t seen anything untoward from him other than him being a very professional footballer. “I said to him, what you are going through, if it is any help, I have been through a hundred times myself with opposition fans because of the stick that went with the ‘Crazy Gang’ thing and the stigma that went with Vinnie Jones and John Fashanu. “We lived with it and decided to create a siege mentality and we were very successful at it. It brought out the best in players. The more stick we got the more we stuck it to them. John Fashanu had horrendous publicity and I told him the only way to silence his critics was to score plenty of goals.” http://www.express.co.uk/football/view/68279/Kinnear-Kissing-has-to-stop-Joey
