Yes. He's yesteryear's man.

If we can put together a team that can create chances galore, then lets go out and get a pacey striker who makes decent runs, has a decent first touch and shows decent composure in front of goal (i.e. not Oba), and then create chances for him, and not a slow 30 year old with creaking bones. We'll score more goals because the striker will provide the team with much more to work with - balls over the top into space, balls into feet whilst the striker has nothing but 40 yards of grass between him and the keeper, these options would be real chances to create/score goals with a pacey striker, when at present they're not even an option for our midfielders with Owen up front because as soon as he's taken his first touch the bigger, stronger centrebacks will have caught up with him.

So even if we do become a more creative side, I'd want us to utilise that creativity better by having a pacey striker on the end of those through balls. A good, creative team isn't necessarily one that can fashion regular chances for strikers who are difficult to service. Look at Barcelona - arguably the most creative side in club football over the past half decade or so. They've dominated teams week in week out, had players like Ronaldinho/Xavi/Messi/Deco/Iniesta running riot and creating chances at will, so on and so forth, yet throughout this entire time they've done all this with a striker who's main attributes are raw pace and athleticism, which (unlike Oba) the striker uses to his advantage. As another example, Shevchenko used to be a great striker, and still had good ability, yet he flopped at Chelsea because he had slowed down by the time he came to this league. Similarly, Crespo was another striker who flopped, a striker with great movement, great instincts, and wonderful composure/finishing. Yet in virtually the same team, Nicholas Anelka can't stop scoring. The difference? One has pace, the others lacked it.

So if this is a chance to move on from a striker who peaked a few years short of a decade ago, a striker who limits what the "creativity" options for his teammates are, then we really need to move on and take it.

40k a week plus 40k per goal, or something stupid like that

he scores 20+ goals it's worth it, if not we're no worse off

as much as i despise the guy he will likely come good again

£43,000 basic, £20,000 apearance (full starts only) and £25,000 goal bonus.  If he has a really good season, plays every game and scores 20 goals, he ends up with £70,000 per week which is a very attractive wage.  But if he has an average season, plays half the season and only scores 10, he comes out with £56,000 which is a much more average kind of wage these days in the Premiership.

Also if we get into Europe there's more games to play which means he can gain even more on his appearance and goal bonuses which can push his wage even higher.  That will not only give him more motivation to play well and help us get into Europe but it will also insure that if we're paying him more we're also bringing in more money to cover those extra wages.  We should do it with every player IMO

EDIT: got the maths wrong originally so I changed the offer

£45,000 basic, £10,000 apearance and £20,000 goal bonus.  If he plays every single game in the average season (45 games) and scores 20 goals he ends up with 70,000 per week which is a very attractive wage.  But if he plays half the season and only scores 10 he comes out with £53,000.

aye, summik like this - we'd both benefit for it

can't see us getting a better striker in either

He's a cancer in the dressing room. Hopefully next season the squad will be a Scouse-free zone.

just thinking about your comment has got me to realise our squad is full of crap scouse s***

R.Taylor,Nolan,Owen,Guthrie,Barton get rid of these bin dippers

Guthrie is Scottish and Owen is more Welsh than scouse.

Barton is from Huyton which is Knowsley not Liverpool and Ryan Taylor is from the Wirral

Kevin Nolan is technically the only scouser at the club, being from Toxteth.
