NUFC transfer rumours in the press

Not sure we can really complain about our buys at all in the last 2 years, it's the lack of urgency at times that frustrate.

And the lack of a genuine commitment/ambition to improve. We do sign a number of very good players, but we seem to always come up short somewhere in favour of saving/making money - whether that's pulling out of deals we've spent ages on or gambling on players we don't really need at that time. Last summer was an absolute classic example of this, I don't believe any other top flight club would have rested on its laurels like we did.

Still, this summer could yet be a good one. I hope Pardew bucks his ideas up accordingly.

Can't really disagree with any of that. IMO we've made some absolutely fantastic signings but we could also push on a bit more if Ashley was willing to loosen the purse strings more. But he isn't, so better just enjoy the players we do have.

There's one problem with the current policy - even though they are good players, they aren't always what we need.

The most obvious example of this was when we wanted to replace Ba, didn't get Remy and then turned to Sissoko because he represented a "good deal". It's a frustrating approach which really cost us in terms of goals.

We couldn't really have done anything more to get Remy though, QPR just out-waged us. And then, although he's not world class, we did get Gouffran in.

For all this, 'we don't buy what we need, just buy players on the cheap and hope they fit', we seem to have ended up with a remarkably balanced squad. :shifty:

We do buy what we need, we just don't always end up with them at exactly the right time. I do think we should get some credit for bringing all those signings forward to January though, although obviously we needed players the previous summer as well.

Personally i think the players were ok, definitely lacking in depth but on the whole ok. Pardew's general negativity and inability to get system and tactic they fitted into was a major problem. Something i hope he sorts out. The last couple of games have been encouraging tbh. Not holding my breath but it has been better.

And if Pardew does sort out a way of playing that suits the players we have, and with a couple of more buys. It should be a good season to look forward to.

We hardly turned to Sissoko for Ba's replacement, we probably wouldn't have even got him so early had we not been in such a mess. Gouffran was more a last ditch replacement for Ba after our first target Remy turned us down. I think it's clear Ashley knew he made a mistake last summer and is keen not to let that happen again, many on here just went into meltdown because we never went sign crazy soon as the window opened like the mackems did. We are always going to be patient with deals unless they have already been put in place months prior.

it's becoming clearer by the day that those in control are actively involved in some kind of sabotage.

genuine question but how did you reach this conclusion?

A more pertinent question, considering the information and evidence available to us all, would be: How can anyone not reach that conclusion?

Patience is probably needed before jumping to those kind of conclusions. It's back to the great old saying, wait till the window is closed before judging, especially if you are going to accuse the club of sabotage.

Well, considering I posted this in response:

it's becoming clearer by the day that those in control are actively involved in some kind of sabotage

how does the remy signing fit into the sabotage theory then? ???

perhaps they know he's bang to rights guilty on the rape charge and as soon as the transfer window SLAMS SHUT he'll be carted off to the big house leaving shola to play up front on his own after they implicate cisse during the trial

maybe they know he'll sign for real madrid next summer after scoring 30 goals and are playing the sabotage long game

i just don't know

I might have been wrong, like. Which I'll be more than happy to admit.

Let's not get too carried away just yet, like.

No, not really.

5 Million for 29 year old Stewart Downing or £8m for 21 year old Tom Ince, hmm I wonder which to go with..  Seriously even from the perspective of pure value Ince is the far better deal due to his age, then there's the fact he's a much better player.  We'd be absolutely mental to go for Downing.

mind boggling thought isn't it?  with pardiola and killer joe running the show it's almost a nailed on certainty which one we'll be after :anguish:

I'm not buying this like. Our policy of buying players over the last 18 Months or so would actually suggest we'd go for the younger with a better re-sale. Sick of reading negative posts like this which are negative just for the sake of it.

Just one of those things you have to come to accept on here that if we get Downing that's Pardew's choice, if we get Ince that's a great choice by Carr. Similarly to Gomis is Carr's, Bent is Pardew's, no teamwork and agreements in this game.

here, self-congratulation society, it's not baseless negativity thanks very much....as dave has also pointed out the age policy seems to have relaxed, our manager publicly stated he wanted more "experience" and we've publicly said we're interested in 28 year old gomis, 29 year old bent and now a rumour pops up about 29 year old downing...we've signed 27 (?) year old remy too

so yeah, sorry boys, it's all me and teasy making shit up and being super-negative about pardew

Personally dont buy this bringing signings forward to January, purely because they should have been done the summer before. It was patently clear we needed players then and the neglect shown imo was shocking.

By bringing them forward to January, they club are effectively admitting they had no intention of recruiting for a whole season excluding Anita, which is criminal when you think about it.

I'd rather we get the right players at the wrong time, than the wrong players at the right time.
