We knew how Everton would set up and can only assume thought they’d be on the beach. TBF, I certainly thought that, it was soon apparent that they weren’t. Disagree. I thought Tonali was outstanding, Bruno and Tino were decent as well. Murphy's lack of guile and finesse were exposed yesterday in a hard game where there was less time and space that you get against the better teams. Tonali & Tino did well in a team generally not at it. I didn’t mention our left as Gordon had a game to forget over there. Murphy looked to me that he didn’t have options, was in a slightly unfamiliar role and didn’t have the ability to adapt (that time he ran across the pitch in the 1st half about 25 yards out before losing being a good example). Barnes failed to give him options by being tucked inside too often and Isak just wasn’t fit and didn’t have his usual movement to give Murphy a target. We absolutely need an upgrade but, for the money we’d get I’d be happy to keep him. I was far more concerned about Gordon’s performance tbh.
Heron Posted Monday at 18:10 Share Posted Monday at 18:10 (edited) Murphy had a terrible game yesterday but then so did several others. The front 3 were essentially irrelevant for us. Murphy has been one of the best wingers in the country this season and as soon as he has one bad game everyone rewrites history that he's only had 4 or 5 good games and he's having a purple patch and we desperately need to improve and all that other nonsense. Yet we have an England international who's done less than him this season and shows none of the same attitude and everyone kisses his arse in the desperate hope he stops moping aboot.
