Everton have banned the Sun "from all areas of its operation" after the newspaper published "appalling and indefensible" allegations about Ross Barkley and the people of Liverpool.

South Shields had a 2054 attendance for their game today. There's enough of a catchment area, and disenchantment from mackem fans, for them to be a Football League club if the Thompsons are serious with their ownership long term.

He's definitely on a the sauce again. Reminds me of when I was a kid playing tennis and the coach would come out of the clubhouse smelling of wine to take the lesson.

FFS, that suit; that press conference; that, that... whatever it is. If he's not on the sherry again, I fear he may be bipolar.

That must be the first time they've broken the 2,000 aside from the games against North Shields, no?

I suspect they are serious indeed. True football fans and a history with South Shields with their business based there for a while.

How utterly tennis and middle class that is.

Stroud given a 28 day ban from refereeing

Paid or not?

Referees get paid per match at that level, so he'll not be paid.

It's a very low amount they get as well, about £400-£500 a match.

Edit - see above.

Football League ref's only get paid £380 per match.

That seems problematic. Maybe if refereeing was more professionalized then the standards would be higher. Seems only right that as the game has got quicker, more technical, and with more money at stake more money spent on refereeing would also improve standards.

Most EFL referees will have a job alongside it, so you can imagine it's pretty tiring being at work all week and then having to run around SJP for 90 minutes on a Saturday.

As you say, it should be more professionalised and then referees would be able to train during days they are not officiating rather than juggle a second job.
