Nobby
Blackburn confirm Intertoto plan Mark Hughes has confirmed Blackburn will enter the Intertoto Cup if they do not qualify for Europe automatically. Mid-table Rovers' Uefa Cup exit leaves them to seek qualification through their Premiership position for a second season in a row. But the Blackburn boss is eyeing Intertoto Cup as a failsafe. Hughes said: "More clubs see the Intertoto as a decent option, they changed the format and it's a more attractive competition." Rovers went out of the Uefa Cup to Bayer Leverkusen 3-2 on aggregate at the last-32 stage on Thursday following a goalless draw at Ewood Park. Blackburn face a replay against Arsenal to keep their FA Cup hopes alive and Hughes is looking for his side to put a good run of form together to carry them into a high enough position to qualify for a Uefa Cup spot. Hughes said: "We need to pick up points in the league and our home form is going to be crucial." http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/b/blackburn_rovers/6392337.stm We want it too i presume

Yorkie
Not worried about them tbh. They won't finish in the top half. It's touch and go if we'll finish up there, but i'll be stunned if Blackburn are higher than us again.

mrmojorisin75
anybody else reckon it'd be a good idea for us to have a season of playing in domestic competitions only, concentrate on them and see how we do? might have a bearing on alleviating the worst injury crisis ever known to man

But we're definitely going to apply, Bolton probably will, Reading, Everton, Villa, Spurs etc.. most likely will so the probability is that you'll have to finish just behind the automatic spots to get the Intertoto spot like last season when we had to finish 7th. Didn't help us at all. We really missed European competition last year IMO.

Fair enough, you didn't really mean that with your first post, though. The rules don't state that you have to finish outside the automatic spots, which is what you said initially. But you're right. A lot of teams will apply so the chances are you'll have to finish 6th/7th/whatever it'll be. On a side note, i hope we apply.

It's far more attractive now than when we got in as 14th. It's a different competition.
