Lagerstedt
I think we'll end up signing Anton Ferdinand. Parents can be embarrassing at the best of times - grooming their grown offspring in public, tormenting them with baby photos, and failing to inform them before hosting the monthly gathering of the local swingers association. But few can have ever done quite such a spectacular job as David Nugent's mum Sandra today, nattering on to the national press about how nervous her son was about meeting Wayne Rooney. "It's not because he could be lining up for England on Saturday," explained Sandra to the nice man from the Daily Ooh Aah. "It's the prospect of meeting all the players who he's seen on TV." Still, at least Nugent's humiliation will be fleeting - unlike that felt by Glenn Roeder after he splashes the cash on West Ham waster Anton Ferdinand in the summer. Then again, perhaps it's just good sense - when Newcastle tried buying a promising young English centre-back it turned out to be Titus Bramble, so at least this way round there are no expectations to begin with. Guest Rafa
Getting slow but still way better than any of our current centrebacks! Has something what we lack desperately, consistency! he's always been slow. Sami's got the turning circle of the QE2, but he's still a very good defender. Guest alex
I'd have Hyppia here in a shot.
Guest
Nah, not now. I know he's "better than what we've got", but I don't think he's good enough to be the leader in a defence. At Liverpool he's always had a solid senior partner (Henchoz then Carragher), would be different here.
Guest Rafa
Sami made Henchoz look good though
Guest
That's true, just think he's too old now. Looks shaky whenever I see him for Liverpool these days and that's in a good defence. God help him with The Clampets alongside him.
