But Allardyce can expect a sizeable summer war chest after agreeing to take over at under-performing United last week. And he said: "Newcastle's starting point is to achieve regular European football or win one of the cup competitions. "We may not be able to grow as quickly as I'd like, but I'm trying my hardest to get the right people in the right places and get results quickly. "I've got to do that to complete the job, particularly at St James'." Allardyce added: "Coming to Newcastle gives me a better chance of working on a more level playing field than I ever could at Bolton. "The club supported me and gave me as much as they possibly could - but that was always limited. "The resources here are far greater. It's a more level playing field with the big boys. "My success at Bolton means I know I'm very good at what I do." Allardyce also believes that allegations of bung-taking levelled at him last season have prepared him for the personal stresses which lie ahead. "I was always guilty until proven innocent," he complained. "I've come through all that and I've got nothing to hide. "It certainly didn't come into the discussions when we were talking over the Newcastle job." He added: "What happened over the last year has made me stronger as a manager."
