Someone explain to me like I'm a child; how can clubs agree a contract with a player before they've made a bid, and that not be illegal tapping up? I'm pretty certain it always used to be.

In fact, it's the buying club who pay this, so what difference would it even make?

Is this unique to us/the Premier League? I know a couple of players who played further down the leagues (one of them in the championship for a time) and I know they lost some of their contracted bonus by submitting a transfer request, but that was it. On another note, quick reminder that Wayne Rooney handed a transfer request in at Man United when Man City wanted to sign him, then ended up staying there for years. These things do happen (not that I think Isak will, or should).
