That's the problem. Pardew can't get the basic stuff right.

He'll not be playing long, who do you think will drop out for de Jong? When everyone's fit, I imagine it'll still be Tiote, Anita, Sissoko, HBA, Gouffran, Remy. Is that not top 8 quality to you? Fuck it, we're only 5 behind Everton man, their main striker is fucked, they have to come to St James'...why not finish higher still? Have some belief even if the club don't man. We're good enough. Who's scoring the goals?

Probably?

We've lost the player who makes us tick and we've loaned a player who hasn't started a game in almost a year. We've also effectively gained Ben Arfa though by default. Even Joe Kinnear wouldn't try and claim that. I don't think the club are particularly bothered about top 6-7 to get us into Europe but I still see no reason we can't get there. There's still enough about us to do it. Tiote, Sissoko, Anita, Ben Arfa, Gouffran, Remy, De Jong. There's still 7 very good players in those positions. Most of which will be sold as soon as an offer comes in.

You spout the same every window. "If we sign people in the next window it'll be fine" The problem is, we never do.

Yeah....ok then....

Not necessarily. We're a good stepping stone as Cabaye proved. We may as well be a league one club selling players to the championship. We're a decent premiership side selling players to Champions League contenders. But why do we exist? To win things or to develop players for the teams which do win things? that very question can be asked of a great deal of clubs not just us. Name me another premiership club deliberately trying to get knocked out of cups and avoid getting into Europe. And yes, it can be said of loads of clubs. They're all in the lower divisions though. Even the likes of Hull and Palace attempt to win cup matches! They buy players to improve, not to sell on. Think one thing everyone agrees on is that we should make a better fist of the cups. It's our only shot, slim though it is. Won't stop us being a stepping stone for the likes of Cabaye though. Expectations lowered. Well done Mike.

Thing is, we don't need to replace Cabaye's position, we need to replace his goals. There simply are no goals in this team anymore.
