Whilst some of his tactics were poor, the performances from the majority of the team were piss poor.

I'd say a side with Ricardo, Miguel, Carvalho, Figo, Ronaldo, Pauleta should be beating an England side down to ten-men. They took penalties to do so.

 

The only 2 arguably better. Miguel is over-rated. I suppose you could include Deco in an overall assessment too. I would put that last 70 minutes of english football at the WC down to the players wanting it, not the managers great tactics.

Exactly.  Look at Vidic last season, he was woeful, but has now been arguably one of the best defenders in the premiership this season.

Its extremely hard to judge how good or bad Gooch actually is when hes playing alongside the likes of Bramble etc

To be honest, if I was rich and famous I wouldn't give the riff-raff the steam off my s**** either. The sad cunts should find a better hobby than pestering people for an autograph or the sweat off their balls, freaks all of them. If we stopped treating them like gods, we wouldn't have any problems. Those looking for the odd autograph are harmless enough, its those that take their fixation so far as to sit at home spending hours typing out dossiers etc that are worth the watching....

Milner singing a 4 year contract is excellent if true, I don't know much about Carew nowadays, I know he is very tall and powerful.

 

Giles Barnes and Gareth Bale look like likely signings and very good ones, I'd be especially pleased if we manage to sign Bale as he is a very good,quick left back who can get forward, score goals and is disciplined, not one booking this season for him, Southampton have a thing with un-covering great talents.Go for it Glenn.

The "Jocks" who are involved in Europe are Celtic in the Champions League and Rangers in the Uefa who both like us have qualified and are top of their respective groups, not bad for "mickey mouse" clubs

He was shit at Celtic, West Ham and Wolves last season.  I wouldn't want to see him here, aye hes scored a few for Arsenal when given a chance but with the talent in that team I would expect anybody to look good surrounded by the class he was.

Birmingham City have taken up the option to keep Matthew Upson at St Andrews until 2008.

 

Upson's contract was due to expire at the end of the season, but Blues have exercised a clause which allows them to extend the defender's deal by a further two years.

 

Blues boss Steve Bruce had stated earlier this month that talks regarding Upson's future were on hold until the summer due to the club's relegation battle.

 

But after the centre half ruptured his Achilles prior to Sunday's derby defeat at Aston Villa, Birmingham have now moved to secure Upson's future.

 

Bruce confirmed the stopper, who turned 27 on Tuesday, will be staying at St Andrews and has backed Upson to recover from the injury which will sideline him for at least six months.

 

"We have already exercised the two-year option," Bruce told the club's official website.

 

"Matt's going to be out for at least six months and, as we've learnt with others, it will take him another six months after that before we see the 'real' Matt Upson.

 

"But I am sure he will recover and it helps that he is a strong character and mentally tough.

 

"He's come back from breaking his leg and doing his cruciate knee ligaments before and he will come back again."

 

Since joining Blues from Arsenal in January 2003, Upson has made over 100 appearances for the club, but had not played since early February due to groin and pelvic injuries.

 

Upson was due to make his comeback at Villa on Easter Sunday, only to break down with the Achilles injury which will keep him out until the autumn at the earliest.

Yes he had a poor season last year but I think alot of that is due to his lack of opportunities with Chelsea, much like Parker was.

Lennon may go on this season to continue his good form of last year but I still feel he has been over hyped at this moment in time by a run of about 12 games towards the end of last season.

If he was Portugese people would be trying to hound him out the country.. bluewink.gif
