  1. Anyone old enough to remember the shock that greeted Dalglish smashing the transfer record (£3m+ !!!) to take some young geordie kid to Blackburn, before they went and won the league?

    Afraid so.

Shearer had played 3 seasons by then though in the top league.  Carroll 6.

What point is that supposed to be making and how is it true? You can hardly count the first involvements of either player as a "season in the top league" but anyway by that measure it's more like Shearer 5 and Carroll 4. 5 each as members of the first team. Similarities.

  2. Carroll is even more worthy of blame because he knew very well what the board were like and what they were capable with regards to ripping the team apart. He was there 2 years ago when players leaving in January cost us dear, and he's been there ever since. He made those comments and commitments about what he wanted to do at NUFC.

Even with all that he jumped ship at the first real opportunity. Disgusting.

  3. Saw the guy over and over yesterday... The way he said it did ring true. Obviously little intent on actually giving up but it does make you wonder what the point is.

With the club where it has been the last few years we have to rely on little victories to get pleasure from it. When even those are being soured or taken away from us it's quite sad.

  4. At the end of the day Alan Shearer rejected a big money move to united back in the day nothing could make him leave. If Carrolll was a true geordie like that he would have done the same. Alan Shearer is the true cult hero andy carroll like I said earlier is just a money grabbing c*nt

Shearer's legacy will be romanticised in the aftermath of Carroll leaving. But the comparison doesn't completely stick. Newcastle were one of the best teams in the country, favourites to finish in the top 2. He was going to be getting big money anywhere, and I'm sure he commanded big money any time he renegotiated his contract.

  5. Like I said, brand value. There is a cultural glass ceiling at the top of the Premiership that is far more resilient than any gap in financial capabilities. Due to the fact that we acted like fucking idiots precisely at the moment when it was being defined, we're firmly on the wrong side of it.

That's a great way of phrasing it! We would need some sort of perfect storm of luck, money and more luck to get on the other side. Just need to see how hard Man City and Spurs are trying still without having got there.
