  1. Again, not quite true, if it's a continuous foul into the box, you still give the penalty.  It's in the laws somewhere.

Really? I was always under the impression that it was where the foul originally took place. Mind you, it's been a few years since I went through the laws of the game...

Aye it's in the 'advice on application' bit at the back.

"If a defender starts holding an attacker outside the penalty area and continues holding him inside the penalty area, the referee must award a penalty kick."

Although that does seem to encourage players to just dive when they get into the area.

does it specify how far out?  b/c there was certainly some back & forth ( grabbing/holding by bassong & pushing off by heskey)  that should mean that the continuity of the hold was broken...

Nah. Only stipulations are it starts outside the penalty area, and finishes inside.

Exactly, when it "continues inside" the area. Therefore if a play is brought back after a fruitless advantage, the last place where a "foul" was committed was inside the box, hence pen.

Basically the complete opposite from what happened today.

  2. Fucking hell there are some terrible opinions on here today, but this one

The whole point is that Heskey DIDN'T BENEFIT FROM THE ADVANTAGE THEN WIN A PENALTY. The last foul made by Bassong was a good ten yards outside the box. I'll just re post what I said on TT:

It really wasn't a complicated incident, which is why it was so insane.

Linesman was right to flag when he did, and the ref was also correct to let play go on at first. Bassong fouled Heskey once or twice but never even touched him in less than 20 yards from our goal (not in a fouling manner anyway).

When play is halted or when Heskey falls, Easy decision for the ref is to bring it back to where the last "foul" was committed (not the first foul) and maybe give a card. NOT wait and see how long Heskey can stay up and then give a foul wherever he gives up and tumbles. Red card was just icing on the shitcake.

Interview of Basson, in French though.

    Cliff notes:

    - Best game v Spurs, I don't know, but I've been playing well lately I feel.

    - Not used to playing over Xmas, been resting. Trying to stay fresh, trying to adapt.

    - Spent Xmas eve with Habib and friends. Family will be over later. Trained 24th, 25th then off to Wigan.

    - I'm prepared for the schedule so I don't think it'll be too much of a shock. Even though games in England are so much more intense.

    - Tricky season, but we're climbing up the table, we might be able to push into the top 10 soon as it's very tight.

    - Enjoying life in Newcastle. Came to learn, and turns out I've been playing a lot, so can't complain. Confidence is growing

  4. I really like our current one, sad to see it go, hope next years at least matches up to it

Weird, when it first came out loads of people (me included) were appalled, thinking it just looked terrible. But it's really grown on me and I really like the overall darkness of it.

  5. Liverpool's strip is vile !

Ridiculous that they were wearing red socks and shorts... that strip is normally all grey, but if they didn't wnt it to clash with Arsenal's white bits, Liverpool have a dark third kit they could have mixed the socks and shorts with.

  6. I wouldn't say that at all really. In the last couple of games he's simply just realised he needs to play it by the book, no funny business. He's grown some balls aswell, in fairness

yeap yeap yeap yeap yeap yeap yeap yeap yeap yeap yeap

  7. 6 games unbeaten. Anyone fickle enough to have jumped off this ship? I was never on it but just wondering if anyone's rethought it?

He deserved slapping for some decisions in previous matches... but the point is he appears to have learned, and doing what we were hoping for all along:

Getting Zog out there, pairing Bassong and Colo, Martins and Owen up front last week... The great news about all this to me is that he seems to have learned from past fuck ups.
