Good point, we were even helped out by their injuries and still got stuffed.
I'd say the injuries helped them more than us. Toivanen was nondescript before leaving and O'Shea for Coates isn't a step down imo either. Defoe certainly gave us more problems than Toivanen.
Yes, exactly what I thought at the time. That it was typical of Allardyce to pick the donkeys and then be forced by injury into a better team. Toivonen seemed completely lost out of position and his injury meant switching to two up top for them, which was not a good thing at all, especially with Defoe being the one to come in.
Likewise when I first saw Kaboul-O'Shea as the starting pair, I was very happy with that. They were better off with Coates.

anything other than to be a cunt and maybe attract some kids with a passing interest in aviation.

Still can't believe he didn't bury that chance. Don't really give too much of a shit about the result but that moment is haunting. It was an absolutely humongous moment for us, and I think he tried to be too cute going for the inside. When you see the replays, the other side was so open.
Don't think he particularly deserves too much criticism for it, it's just unfortunate. It was huge though. And what a moment it would have been for us and for him.

Like many apparently on this page, the thought hadn't even entered my mind... Just thought it was sad he so desperately ran the whole length of the pitch instead of celebrating with his own fans.
But fucking hell... This MH17 stuff does seem plausible.

We've gone past the "support the team no matter what" stage with this club in its current state. I find still having that attitude to be bizarre.
Fuck Colback.

Really disappointing shot when Sissoko cut it back for him.
Even Mitrovic couldn't really believe
Mitro seemed to know he was offside and made sure not to be in the way but then the moron still shot straight into him.

one upon a time, it was really only used if a player was totally rinsed when through, now seems applied to any challenge- ridiculous tbh.
Exactly, as many rules these days it comes from something logical but has become bastardised. Straight red for a deliberate foul as the last man makes complete sense. See Solskjaer on Rob Lee.
But stuff like constant straight reds plus pens for keepers because they are clumsy and obviously provide the last line of defending is dumb.

Steve Brenner
@SunSteveBrenner
Imagine being called a peadophile by 5,000 people and then scoring to shut them up. The wonders of sport .
bit of a weird tweet, that.
Condoning paedophilia. What a nice bloke.
I saw that tweet earlier followed by the perfect response:
"Imagine being a peadophile"

This. No excuses for a record as bad as this. We're a f***ing joke. Six in a row.
Even if your local rival is a serial title winner, a record like that is crazy.
So let alone against this lot.

Good goal tbf
Aye, it was absolutely class. Cunts.
-
Had completely forgotten about him until I saw him on the pitch last week.
-
Wait, a goal line ref actually took an initiative and made a decision on his own?! These are crazy times.
-
Regardless of form, I imagine Deschamps won't be keen at all on bringing him along for the Euros.
Unless he averages a goal and an assist per game all season, maybe he'd be un-ignorable... Even then, he probably won't get picked

The above goes without saying but for now I would rank 1.Mbabu, 2.Dummett, 3.Haidara
Because of the poor overall levels on display, Mbabu would be first choice by default. With the position being his to lose.
-
Yesterday seemed like the perfect chance to give him a run out and boost his confidence, especially given how the game was wide open in the last 20 minutes. Still, not going to complain given how things played out.
-
What I can't stick is people defending him for 'putting a shift in' or 'working hard'.
He's a stat padding coward is the truth behind his "putting in a shift" façade.
-
Absolutely no idea why he wasn't starting from the beginning of the season. Madness - such a good player.
McClaren played a blinder with him.
-
Did OK-ish, I definitely prefer Haidara.
I thought Dummet was pretty poor today, normally he's good at the defensive side, but today he kept ending up in the middle and leaving huge gaps in behind on the flanks. We looked much better when Haidara came on.
Totally agree with this.
Don't think Dummett did too badly. Put in a couple of decent crosses too. Wasn't he game pretty much done for when Haidara came on, anyway. The first thing Haidara did when he came on was side foot the ball with his left foot straight into touch. The guy can barely pass a ball now. Used to be a big fan of Haidara but he's been a waste of everyone's time this season.
-
and nearly had a standing ovation for him when he played a simple cross field pass
Maybe wishful thinking but I got the sense that applause for him was a patronising one. As in people were actually surprised he pulled that pass off because of his shitness and usual unwillingness to even attempt that kind of pass.
Like he was just a lost kid out there.

Into the goals of the weekend. Seems he got an assist too:
-
I'd argue the exact opposite. From a common sense point of view you can't just wander off deliberately or otherwise and magically become inactive.

Yeah, vs Italy in Euro 2008. Can't remember the players involved.

Coutinho and Mahrez are the current PL players who remind of him the most. Always nice to see those two do well.
