  1. 'Son of a whore', I believe. I've been called worse down the local by my mates tbh.
  2. Diaby comes across as a bigger knob in that than Ben Arfa, although my French is barely GCSE level so HBA could've called Diaby anything.
  3. How big was Luque's thread? I seem to remember that getting into three figures.
  4. Nolan is a fat git. Speaking of which this Facebook group looks canny http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=5514652063
  5. I've no doubt Nile is a bit of a knob, most young footballers are. What the fuck must it do to your 19 year old ego when you're playing in front of 45k+ on a semi-regular basis, earning thousands of pounds a week and being idolised by a bunch of wankers on a pokey internet forum? He's clearly a bit of a lad and not entirely popular amongst the senior players but he's a saint compared to what he was before we took a chance on him. He was stealing stuff from Southampton and holding people up at knife point for fucks sake. Give him a few years, see if he grows up and if not get rid. Change that "he's" to "he's got" and we could be talking about Nolan.
  6. Wasn't fuel poured on the fire due to the fact there was a player called Obafemi who had been around at the same time as Babayaro?
  7. Witness in the same way Martin Woods was a witness to Ben Alnwick scandal? Wanking in the corner wearing nothing but a Pringle jumper?
  8. He was always signed as back-up. If Carroll and Lovenkrands had both got injured, we would have needed Best to score goals ... Third choice in more ways than one. Only arrived when Beckford and Moses didn't sign up.
  9. I'm pretty sure a lot of people on here didn't actually watch us last season and just took a wild guess at what they thought Hughton would do. The constant references to Smith being one of his blue chip brigade is completely bizarre given the way he dropped him when it was clear we were better off with Guthrie last season. There's no point in trying to second guess Hughton. We all expect him to be spineless and inept yet so far he's been savvy on the touchline and in the transfer market. My expectations remain low but I would never write him off until he starts picking on personality rather than form and signing s**** we don't really need. Smudger lost his place in the team through a combination of injury and suspension did he not? He wasn’t so much dropped as not immediately reinstated when he was available for selection again? He did, but our options were extremely limited. Butt was the only other centre mid we had available because Guthrie spent a lot of time on the right. When Routledge arrived and Smudger got injured Guthrie got his chance in the middle and stayed there.
  10. The thing is as suspect as Nolan's all round game is he scored so many important goals last season there was no justification for dropping him, especially when there wasn't a ready made replacement.
  11. I'd be interested to see the percentage before and after January. Once Guthrie had a chance in the middle and he did the job Hughton kept him there, despite the fact Smith is part of this dressing room clique that apparently runs the gaff. Out of all the negative things you can throw at Hughton indulging in a spot of favouritism isn't really one of them.

  13. I'm surprised people still pay attention to Taylor27.
  14. His pace, willingness to run at people and most importantly partnership with Enrique makes him our best option on the wing regardless of whether HBA signs or not. There's no point in signing someone to solve the problem of creativity in the centre of the park and deciding to play him on the wing. QFT! The effort he puts in put most of the rest of our squad to shame.. never known a player track back with such determination, and his ability to track back win the ball then carry it away from danger is massive for us. He is still a better player going forward at home though.. no idea why, maybe it is how he is being asked to play. again going back to quality v grafters, grafters only get you so far, quality is what you need when it counts, Jonas has no quality in his passing, crossing or shooting. Yes he will pull players apart, but the amount of times his passes go missing, or his final ball is shite is far too much I don't think it's a question of graft versus quality, it's a question of where we need quality and where we can get away with grafters. We're in dire need of some quality in the centre of the park and have been for years now whereas Jonas and Jose will cause teams enough trouble despite the fact Gutierrez isn't the most productive of wingers. If we were having this conversation about Ryan Taylor rather than Jonas then I'd agree entirely. but will hughton drop his favourite nolan then, because sadly i can't see it I doubt it. Like I said I think Ben Arfa will play where Nolan is at the minute and Nolan will take Guthrie's place. nolan and barton does not fill me with confidence :-[ Any central midfield pairing we have at the moment fills me with dread but lets look on the bright side, at least Smith isn't starting.

Midfield of Jonas, Big Fat Kev, Barry Chuckle and Routledge with HBA playing off the shoulder of Carroll.

  17. Neither. He's in goal. Hughton wanted someone between the sticks with a more convincing tan.
  18. Apart from the OTT wages, what is the lure of the Premiership? Some of the world's best players to play with and against, in some of the world's best stadia. The prestige of the league and the adulation players receive is second to none. Even if you don't rate the quality of the football, the lure is obvious. Bollocks. Most the worlds best footballers dont play in the PL and players dont make career moves based on the quality of the stadia at away games. They want to go to clubs that can win things, failing that they chase the wonga. As we have no chance of winning anything it must be the money thats luring him to the EPL. He's playing the long game if you ask me. The Premier League is the most watched sports league on earth, if he comes to us and does well he can make a name for himself and command bigger money moves in the future. The alternatives for him are stay in France or go to Germany, Russia or Portugal. If he does join us and he does pull up trees he'll not be playing for us on 2011/12. Thats certainly more plausible than Daves theory about him being enticed by the quality of the stadia. I was only questioning the lure of the PL cliché as this isnt a done deal and if money is the key factor theres still plenty of scope for the clubs cheapskate recruitment policy to scupper the move, which would be a shitter as we really need some genuine creativity in the side. If he signs on big money theres also the possibility somebody will be sold to keep the wage bill at its current level. I think the lure of the Premier League is still quite big for outsiders despite the fact most fans in England now seem to recognise that it's barely comparable to La Liga or even a pretty pish Serie A. The Premier League has benefitted from money and extremely clever marketing. Just because Barcelona are class doesn't make Spanish football better than ours. Real Madrid (pre Mourinho) would get beat by our top 3 IMO. Technically it might be better on the eye but that doesn't make it "better" football. La Liga has some shite teams in it too. Debatable. If you went down the league and matched our 20 and their 20 up in order I'd fancy their lot most of the time. The bottom half of the Premier League was fucking awful last year. Yet a quarter of people on here believe we'll be better than no more than two of them... This place is full of social spastics and nutters tbh

There's no point in signing someone to solve the problem of creativity in the centre of the park and deciding to play him on the wing. who know's what hughton will do, remember he had load's of CM's already and he has his favourite in nolan! I think he's been surprisingly adept at picking the best players at the right time. He still gets some stick for having his favourites but last season he dropped Butt and Smith quick enough when it was clear we had better options.

  22. That's exactly what will happen away from home. I can see Nolan moving back into the centre and replacing Guthrie, HBA doing the Nolan role.
  23. Aye, can't quite fathom that one myself. Simple, after one year with us, he can go wherever he wants at a low price as he thinks he'll be good enough. Sign a permanent deal with Benfica and he'll find it harder to leave. Why not go on loan to Benfica? Phil Babb played well in Portugal and it got him a move to Sunderland. Hardly the best stage to make a name for yourself on

Sign a permanent deal with Benfica and he'll find it harder to leave. This tbh. We're a great stepping stone for him - big club in a big league but he's not bound to us. Man United and Liverpool were sniffing around a few years ago, he's got to see that as a missed opportunity he'll want to put right.
