  1. I think he should go for it if offered. He is my favourite to manage Newcastle in a couple of years anyway when Hughton is finally removed. I would much rather have Clark than Shearer and a move to Burnley would give him the necessary PL experience to move to us later. Go for it, lad.
  2. Blue I think your mate is ragging you, pal. I cant see Ashley spending 3.5 quid never mind 3.5 million quid on a has been
  3. Ronaldo Talking about valuations, as Beckford only has 6 months left on his contract, his value is, say, 2 million, how much do you think Leeds would value him if he had, say 3 years left on his contract? A hell of a lot more than Leicester would value Fryatt, Villa would value Harewood, Rangers would value Boyd or Scunthorpe would value Hooper. Speaking of other alternatives as strikers, what is this lad at Bristol City like? cant remember his name but I have seen someone for them score quite regularly.
  4. Got the Rangers Hamilton game on in the bckground. Not really watching but 15 minutes in and I havent heard Boyds name mentioned. Is he playing? Apparently, commentators seem to believe a few championship teams are looking at a kid called McCarthy or McArthur. I wonder whether we are one of these teams. They seem to think it is his last game for Hami.lton
  5. Can you honestly say that you would prefer to pay 1.5 million for a 31 year old journeyman who has failed in the PL and pay him $30K a week rather than paying a similar price for a proven goalscorer 4 years younger and on half the salary? I know the risk I would rather take and I am glad we are not business partners.
  6. Ronaldo I would bet that Boyd would be a complete failure. I have watched him several times and his record against Celtic is rubbish. However, against the likes of Falkirk, Hamilton, Gretna, Motherwell and St. Mirren is quite impressive, teams which would probably finish midtable in the Blue Star league. As for Harewood, he has appeared in 17 matches for us scoring 5 goals. How many games he has started doesnt come into it if you go by statistics.
  7. Yep, O'Neill is desperate to get rid of him because he knows he will get nothing for him in June. Obviously spooked by our interest in Beckford.
  8. Skirge Yes, I know but I am trying to teach him some common sense. Maybe all the snow you lot have had over there is icing his brain. My main concern is the next couple of weeks. We need someone to score goals. I watched the Forest - WBA game this afternooin and I was really impressed with Forest. I think they will go close to automatic promotion. If we fail to beat WBA next monday, my fear is that we will fall into obscurity. I couldnt believe we failed to beat derby at home and especially now having seen their result against Scunthorpe. My worry is that we will continue to drop stupid points and fail to finish in the top two unless we sign a skilled goalscorer. Beckford seems the best of a bad lot at present. Chopra isnt the answer and for what Villa are asking, neither is Harewood.
  9. Ronaldo Errrr, 5 goals in something like 17 games isnt 1 in 2.
  10. Ronaldo So, you have compared Boyd and Fryatt playing in a similar league, have you?
  11. I tend to agree. I dont think he is coming either and I dont think he will go to the PL club this window either.
  12. Apparently, according to the Sunday Sun, WBA are looking to sign Matt Fryatt from Leicester City. Now, pound for pound for the money, I would rather have him instead of Boyd, Beckford or Chopra but I cannot see Leicester releasing him because technically, they are still a chance for the play offs. However, money talks.
  13. FRAZZLE If Chopra is so good then, why is he still not with a premiership club? Furthermore, why should we be looking at a striker who hasnt scored since last september and is currently rated 4th choice by his extremely average club?
  14. and now the Sunday Sun are saying we have enquired about Chopra.........................god forbid
  15. Skirge Any news on that medical yet, mate? I think someone has been pulling your plonker, sunshine
  16. It is not about status of the club. It is about who will bid the highest for him and I can see an Everton or a Bolton or a Wigan coming in with a 2.5 million plkus bid for him because Ashley will sit on his hands as usual.
  17. He will not be joining us. He will go to a relegation threatened PL team. We will recall Harwood from Villa
  18. Well, it might not really matter anymore. I expect we will be getting Marlon back and probably Zurab niow that Kilgallon has turned us down and probably
  19. If we get him, we are looking good up front. He has the quality to get a few goals for us this season but the jury will be out next season until he gets a fair few goals in the PL. It looks like Butt is calling time on his career at the end of the season and I still think Geremi will go this window. We still need several quality players in the summer including a couple of full backs, a creative midfielder, a right winger and possibly another central defender. By the way, I really like the looks of Kadar. I think he is definitely a quality youngster for the future.
  20. Roanaldo He will need the service to do that, He is not exactly a striker who creates his own chances. Most of his goals are handed to him on a plate and I dont see many creative players at Boro to supply him. He can score plenty of goals against the likes of St,Johnstone, Dundee Utd and Motherwell but it will be a different kettle of fish when he has to play against the likes of us, Swansea, Forest, Leicester and WBA.
  21. As much as I would like to see the club sign Beckford, I would not pay any more than 2 million for him. We could always get Harewood back for the remainder of the season and then see whether Beckford is available in the summer for nothing.
  22. Perhaps the only way to get more parity in the domestic leagues is to adopt such approaches as introducing salary caps, zoned transfer areas, feeder clubs and possible foreign player restrictions but I feel there will probably a load of restraint of trade cases piling up through the european courts.
  23. If he was watching Boyd in the old firm match, he couldnt have been impressed. He only touched the ball three times and got booked as well. Boro are welcome to him.
  24. Well, it would seem the profit they made just wasnt anywhere near enough anyway. They must have already been in one hell of a financial state when they brought these players in at over inflated salaries in the first place. You would think their administration would have realised that they could not sustain such costs beforehand.
  25. Yes, a decent profit on all those but shoiuld they have been signed in the first place?
