What do you base these thoughts around? Some decent performances against the likes of Carlisle, Hull City, a weak Celtic side, a dissapointing Juve side, and a reserve Sampdoria side? If so, I'll agree with you when he tames the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, or Gamst Pedersen, players of this class. When it comes down to it, we just cannot rely on carr when we play not only the big teams, but any team with a reasonably talented winger. Seems fitter than ever, played well at the back end of last season (even out of position), and has performed well during pre-season. Sam's said nowt about a right-back, so I can only assume he likes the look of him as well. He might struggle against top-class wingers this coming season, but I think he's been overly-abused by some fans, tbh.

I think he's capable of doing well for us this season, tbh, if the fans give him a chance.

Yeah, a good move, imo. Hope he gets a good number of games and we can really see what potential he's got.

Don't understand why the deal would still be on, certainly not at that price. We currently have 2 LBs in Baba and Enrique and back-up in The Zog / Edgar / etc. (Unless he thinks he's up to a CB job and cover for LB if needed)

Decent player. No idea why we'd sign him, though. Maybe this is what Big Sam meant about replacing Dyer? One injury-prone player for another.

I can't see how people are saying we don't need a Dyer replacement. As far as I can tell we only have Emre, Butt and Barton as recognised central midfielders + Geremi who's played there occasionally. If Sam's plan is 4-5-1, then we need hard-working central midfielders alongside those attacking wingers.

Aye, I'm well pissed off that we've brought in 3 defenders, Joey Barton, Geremi, Viduka, and Alan Smith. It's fucking tragic.

It's fucking obvious he isn't ready for a central midfield slot. Not even close. I hate to think he's going to end up a Dyer without a fixed position and suffer as a result.
