He could’ve done that without being coach. Like every other DOF in football. Being coach ruined his reputation as DOF. Bringing McKenna would’ve meant he could’ve studied the players up close without tarnishing his reputation. So that the leadership would actually listen to him. It was an awful appointment from the start. ETH was a good hire on paper but he should’ve been sacked after finishing 8th. But they let him buy more dross like Zirkzee (I’ve jinxed us here).

Rangnick had been managing for a combined 2 years in the previous 10 years. Being 60+ years old and never managing a club close to the stature of Man U. He should have never managed the club. The stint was a horror show and undermined his credibility. Better to give it to some youngish assistant than Rangnick. Carrick, the Ipswich gaffer - whoever.
-
And again - which club asks their DOF to be their interim manager? Weird behaviour from shit leadership. Glazers are legit awful. Agree they might as well have listened to him. But he didn’t need to tank the team and his reputation to get that analysis.

Good point but I think there’s a middle ground. John Terry is one who had a great balance. If he had to slide, block etc. he would but also was composed and had great positioning. Always playing in a compact team in a mid to low block helped too. Rudigers one of my favourite defenders atm. Very under rated I think. Doesn’t get the credit he deserves for his overall football ability and non-physical defensive awareness and positioning. Not afraid to crunch an attacker when needed.
-
I think a lot of CBs are scared to go to front because it can make them look silly. I love VVD and Saliba. But they both do this thing where they back off from an attacker because they don’t want to get embarrassed.
-
Since when did a DOF need to manage and coach the team to get a full understanding of the internal issues? The whole thing was just weird.

Can’t compare Amorim to Howe. We had such a positive atmosphere we just needed 1 thing to fall in our favour. ETH has been the worst Man U manager of the lot. And I thought Rangnick was a poor appointment too. They’ve signed a lot of garbage under those managers.
-
I agree with this fully. I just couldn’t understand how quickly the pendulum swung away from Howe. West Ham was a massive nadir tbf. I was braced for the worst. For me Howe has earned himself a full season. Only a relegation battle would make me want us to sack him mid season. Let him ride our 38 league games. If he finishes 11th and he gets sacked - no problem. I also don’t think the squad is so good that changing managers will govern us a massive uptick mid season. It’s his squad, he’ll likely get the most out of it. If we want/need a change do it in June when we can refresh the squad.

I remember there were more than one in favour of this.

You were never knee jerking calling for him to be sacked. You said we were bad which was the truth. I’ve never been a Howe fanboy but I was shocked by how quickly people turned on him. We were bad but we weren’t that bad. People were acting like we were 15 points off the pace and needed a change. It felt like the twilight zone. Having barely changed my stance on how I became one of his biggest supporters football fans are very fickle

What’s the point in this?

The comments are funny. Particularly The Shield reference. I think it’s not sustainable with European football. But being overpowered physically is a good way to get ahead of the pack. We do need to increase the technical floor of the team but that power, athleticism, aggressiveness should remain as our identity. Someone like Hall might not be a natural to it but he’s grown into that.
-
If he's a poor trainer I don't want him. He's not good enough to justify that. We need determined, mentality monsters.
-
This was after the contract no? The lack of work rate is astounding. It’s Kyliann Mbappe levels. At least Mbappe knows he has to do something to justify that lack of work rate. Even when it’s going bad for Mbappe you can see the weight of expectation on his face to deliver. Rashford could not give a fuck.

On steroids?

Just had a look on Chelsea forums and Twitter. Not much talk of Tosin. But seems like Madueke train’s poorly and has been dropped twice as a consequence. Avoid lads like that.
-
Loses the ball too much for the Pirlo comparison. He’s his own unique player and I’m glad we are getting the best out of him now.
-
I’m not writing Amorim off. He’s just been setup to have a really bad start. And long term it doesn’t make sense for them to build around a back 5 manager.
-
I liked Amad since Sunderland days.
-
It’s ruining the relegation scrap. Everton have only stayed up because this era is so poor for promoted teams. I would’ve preferred Leeds coming up than Southampton. Leeds would’ve given it a proper go.
-
I think teams also have him the most time on the ball. Burn has been class all season. Big change from last season at FB when he was a big weakness. Happy for him.
-
He didn’t play when deemed ready. He played as last option. Lascelles did his ACL. Targett out. Think even Krafth/Tino was out. There was no other option but to play Hall. He went from getting barely any minutes to starting regularly due to injuries. ‘Steadily introduced’ is simply not true. He was bang out of favour and injuries got him a chance. Nothing else. And this was with Burn being awful at LB for months. And Hall not getting any minutes. Thats why I can’t give Eddie props for the introduction. His hand was forced and Hall was excellent. Hall was poor in his fleeting chances aye. But Burn was poor for months and kept his place. But alls well that ends well. He’s got a fantastic career ahead of him.
-
Exactly. It’s not like he has Conte’s track record either.
-
Agreed. A lot of it is confidence too. Last season he scored today’s goal multiple times (City and Sheff U spring to mind). I think he’s been practicing this for a long time and today it came off. Excellent goal.

Don’t rate the Amorim hire. Think clubs like Man U should avoid heavily - formation based managers or ones with specialist styles.
