  1. It's the mental attitude of the player that counts towards a good performance or not. Even a journeyman can look good with a consistent mental attitude geared to winning.

Look at a team of footballers who are enjoying life and playing for each other, the team. Now look at the current Newcastle team on the park. There's something badly wrong.

And to effect so many players, some of whom have been known to play good football before, it must be in the overall air of the dressing room. There is no-one else to blame except Roeder unless you can identify a rotten apple in the squad who's negativity is affecting half the squad. But again, Roeder should spot that and isolate the infection.

Look at Keegans team that came up, half of them were not that special but my God he had them playing with confidence and for each other. A team. Roeder doen't have a team, who else can you blame?

  2. The fact that Anal predicted the story and denied it before it happened, followed up by FS rapid denial has me thinking conspiracy, could well be true. Sadly. I think SGE grasp of tactics (that is changing things mid-game to alter the balance of play) isn't that much better than Roeder, which is close to non-existant.

God knows how anyone expects the club to progress when the major footballing decisions are made by a scrap-yard junk collector.

  3. It is quite noticeable that neither the Chairman or senior players have came out and backed Roeder or even defended him, he's a lone voice at the moment.

Not sure that means much atm, many players publically backed Souness and he left. No-one is backing Roeder and ...  he stays?

  4. I think Roeder would manage to buy the players that are most needed, and most of those would be capable if not even good. What I do doubt is Roeder ability to fashion them into a team as the current squad don't look like they want to play for him anymore.

Let's suppose there is a split in the dressing room, with half the lads humpy with Roeder. He gets rid of them and buys in new. Now we have a first 11(15) who are willing to play for him. First game we go behind in it all falls apart again because he doesn't know what to do to change things in a game. Tactical awareness is very poor and not sure of his motivational skills either.

Proven manager needed, scouting network needed, good trainers needed.

30m spent in the summer ain't going to fix this club.

  5. We are the same Newcastle side that was in the run up to Souness' sacking, almost. It's now obvious it wasn't Glen that lifted the team and got results, it was just the weight of oppression lifting following Souness' departure. Roeder tactical awareness has been exposed time and again, as has his team selections. After todays game there can't be a shred of faith left in his ability.

Shepherd is to blame, but I do find myself wondering if some of these supposed transfers didn't come off coz Shepherd was playing canny, knowing he planned to replace Roeder in the summer. (I sincerely hope that's the case, as much as I want Shepherd gone you can't get everything you want.)

Roeder knows he's under a great deal of pressure. When he moves from blaming the players for defeat to hinting the opposition and the fans contributed to a loss it's obvious he's on the edge. Would be surprising for him to hold his hands up and take the blame, but it would be honest.

It's really quite scary to consider that Shepherd might not actually have decided yet, that he might consider letting Roeder loose on the transfer market in the summer. That's assuming we avoid relegation! I dread to think.

Right now I would welcome Roy Keane with open arms, at least he could motivate the players if nothing else. Irrespective of the next manager, (let's assume we can get one), 3 or 4 of the current crew should get their P45's

  6. I tried to picture a pre-match panic.

    "There's two Martins!"

"No, the Dutch guy can be pronounced Mart'ee'ns"

"Run up to the box and tell the commentary team, Dutch Mart'ee'ns!"

    You know the rest.

  7. There was a point near the 68th minute where Butt had the ball in an advanced position. He was looking for someone to pass to and then gestured with both hands as if to say 'Nowhere to pass to', he turned and gave the ball to Bramble.

Bramble looked for all the world as if he considered passing it to the nearest AZ player, but the ball went slightly astray and went back to Butt. At this point the camera pulled out a bit and I saw the three front players. They were stood like statues without a ficking clue, waiting for the ball to their feet when they were all marked like a man on a walk to the gallows. Not one of the muppets thought about moving to get it, or to create space and movement.

Now players can be tired, they can be disinterested and disheartened, but that was abysmal application at this level.

I don't know whose fault that is, but hopefully there is video dissections going on tomorrow and those three get a proper bollocking.

  8. You still think your opening post is a good assessment HTT?

The team performance at AZ tonight was woeful, and as the majority of players have been seen to perform on other occasions it has to reflect on Roeders instructions. His tactical ineptitude has been exposed all too frequently this season. His hesitancy to change a poor shape, and then dubious substitutions when he does change something are quite obvious.

Van Gaal is not a man I admire, but he does know his football, he destroyed Roeder tonight and Roeder had no answer.

Nice guy or not, Roeder is not the man for Newcastle.

  9. Ferguson is only praising our efforts because he no longer sees us as any sort of a threat.

    Absolute rubbish

Try and find a quote from him praising the football of Liverpool, Chelsea or Arsenal then.

He's still the most ungracious man in sport and his knighthood is a disgrace.

The pricks on here who would like to see him as our manager have very short memories or are less than 10 years old!

I'm 46 yrs old and reckon he would be the best thing that happened to newcastle bar none.

Like I said, either less than 10 years old or a prick!

No, you said short memories or less than 10. Short memory? Everyone who wanted Fergie was a prick.. just three lines up.
