Falling somewhere in between a Championship player desperate for a move to any club in the top flight and a world class Champions League winner, how about this fella?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jérémy_Toulalan
Young, French international, great reputation. Would be expensive, but fits the bill I think.

I think I would prefer a striker over a midfielder, although we really need both (well 2 midfielders).
I think midfield is a much higher priority. The problem with the strikers is that our first choice (Owen, Viduka) are injury prone, whereas the problem with the midfielders is that our first choice (Butt, Geremi) just aren't very good. You can take a gamble on fitness, but not on bad players.
But ideally, both should be addressed. The one thing we definitely shouldn't be wasting time on is another defender (after Colo).

I hope Man U put in a shift like this next weekend. Early on might actually be the best time to play them.

SUNDAY PEOPLE
Barcelona midfield star Xavi could be on his way to Newcastle.
That's one way to replace Nicky Butt!

"Keegan has been left so dispirited by the lack of transfer activity at St James’ Park this summer, a part of the club he now has minimal involvement in, that he believes a top 10 finish is probably beyond his team.
That will sit uncomfortably with Mike Ashley, who in his first in-depth interview since he took over, given to a club magazine, stated that he expected silverware and a push for the top four in the Premier League.
But the collision over Alan Smith’s future has further emphasised the cracks that are appearing in a relationship that only began in January."
Not a word about the win against Valencia or the Coloccini signing. I hate these fucking people.

Well, what do you think? Could the mystery dreadlocks guy be one of the two signings Keegan is hoping for?

Ismael Bangoura?

Don't think so.

I'd look at Benayoun (Liverpool might let him go), Kranjcar (Pompey need the money, and out left isn't his best position) & Larsson (most likely).
-
Is Derdiyok really all he's cracked up to be? I honestly can't even recall watching the Swiss, they were that unmemorable - aside from that raid-sodden pitch they played on against Turkey.
Derdiyok is class. He is young, great scoring record, lots of potential, and said he wanted to play alongside Owen after he scored against England at Wembley.

Villa strongly rumoured to be working on a "big money" transfer in Spain. Though to be Ruben de la Red or Joaquin.
Will probably turn out to be neither.
All sounds a bit fancy for Martin O'Neill.
-
I predict we will officially announce the signing at some point in late May, after he has 35 appearances.
-
The obsession about an "attacking midfielder" probably stems from the fact that we rely on Nicky Butt & Geremi, neither of whom are capable of attacking play, so we feel we need an attacking midfielder, because our present regulars are too old and slow to do the job themselves. "Defensive midfielder" can be a kind way of labeling players that are too old and too slow to be of any use.
In this league, it seems like all the best midfielders (with very rare exceptions) are capable of doing a bit of everything.

Wasn't Moyes odds on to win the sack race before this Hughes stuff happened?
-
Booing Smith was shocking, I don't like him but that was out of order.
Well credit to Smith, at least he took it on the chin, worked hard, contributed to the good team performance and took his goal very well.
Oh wait, no he didn't.

I love it. The press have been so busy trying to invent a crisis at Newcastle, and now seemingly out of nowhere we have trouble at Man City, Pompey and Everton. Love it.
-
Well I for one feel very sorry for them and would love to help them out with a nice healthy bid for Niko Kranjcar.
-
SOME SPURS FAN TOLD ME YESTERDAY THAT THEY ARE LINING UP A 12M BID FOR OWEN, ANY TRUTH?
Wise was in London yesterday and tabled a £10.43 mil + Owen bid for Kaboul. Your guess is as good as mine as to whether it will be accepted, but I can't see us being interested in a player like Owen.

Sebastian Larsson has told Birmingham City that he wants to join a Premier League club.
The Sweden international was part of the Blues squad which slipped out of the top flight on the final day of last season.
Unwilling to spend the 2008/09 campaign in the Championship, the former Arsenal midfielder has pleaded with Alex McLeish to allow him to leave St Andrews.
Blackburn and Newcastle are rumoured to have shown an interest and Larsson hopes a deal can be reached before the close of the transfer window on 31st August.
"I want to play at the highest level," he told Sportbladet.
"I hope it will be resolved. There are three weeks left of the transfer window.
"I have got a new contract proposal from Birmingham, but I am not interested in that.
"I have got two years left on my current deal. I am not the kind of player who creates a lot of trouble.
"But somewhere there has to be some respect between the club and the player. Of course it would be better if I played in the Premier League."

Go and get him Kev
Larsson is quality, would make a great signing for central midfield IMO.
And has the versatility needed to be a good squad player...
Would be great on set pieces too. If we are priced out of getting Inler, Larsson would be my second choice. Birmingham supporters on the message board we have a link to don't seem to think his heart was on the performance today against Sheffield Utd....got subbed off.
-
I can't see Keegan wanting to change much here. Provided everyone is fit, we might seem the same 11 with Owen & Coloccini on the bench.
-
Good result
Good confidence boost
Bring on the signings
Bring on Man Utd
Yep, massive boost of confidence. They proved they can actually play some good stuff.
Still have some work to do in building that midfield though. Inler ftw.
-
Holy shit, Zoggy just smiled.

-
I don't like this team very much, I'd rather have the one that played in the first half back please.
-
Two points:
1. Are we really taking Nicky Butt through another Premiership campaign? Really?
2. What I like about Spiderman so far is that he doesn't seem to run out of ideas in the final third. Great attacking instincts.
-
Nowhere near as sharp this half.
Man U win the Charidee Shield on pens.

The Man U fans I know complain about Chelsea crowding around and back talking the referee, but these wankers are the worst offenders. And it gets worse when they aren't in front.
