  1. He looks as if he is doing everything that is asked of him and most of that is unnatural to his game.  Hanging deep and hugging that line would screw anyone's confidence but Smithy is doing it by the numbers.

Let's see what he is like when told to bomb on, then we can judge him.  I think we would have noticed him more last season where there was just no fight in the midfield. This time around, he's surrounded by a few fellow battlers and one to come back.

    He'll do fine.

  2. For the first time in a long time we are getting a strong minded team together.

But I agree parky, we need a player with that spark; dare I say it a 'flair' player who would be consistent. Where will we find another Peter Beardsley?  Ginola (when he could be arsed) or Tino?

We could end up with a season of turgid but defensive football; we need a playmaker 'spark' player to make it look (occasionally) like a pig with lipstick.

  3. NUFC has to operate on the red Queen theory - you have to run as fast as you can to stay in the same place.  Therefore, if he wants to make money out of NUFC, by all means attack the debt, but in modest and continuous way, but maintain the product on the pitch.  He knows the only way to make a profit or make NUFC attractive, is to be attractive on the park.

That means a reasonable outlay for players, to sustain any progress in the league. Doesnt have to be Hollywood signings and it doesnt need to be either/or.  We wont look attractive to potential purchasers, or even attractive to the fans if we are looking over our shoulders by Xmas, for the sake of some prudent signings.

  4. I hope he does come good. There's something about him that you'ld like to see him (and thus NUFC) do well. Im still of the opinion he arrived here with that injury on him.

Anyone that watched his first appearance as he hugged the line and moved with all the speed of a Hippo in glue,  could see he wasnt the player that we saw on all the videos.  But if only for a good return id like the lad to do well and the fact hes prepared to go for it under Allardyce bodes well for the future.

  5. Stopped us for at least two seasons, from being relegated.  If he hadnt retired, in the current injury situation, he'd still be getting games.

We were so proud to watch him and when the video goes all grainy you can tell the grandbairns you watched him playing. You would never have enjoyed that if he had signed for manure.

Worth every penny and no mistake about it.

  6. Looking on here and some other boards it would seem people would be distictly grateful to Glen but totally underwhelmed.

To answer your question, he will be unquestionably backed and supported by everyone.  After all no bugger wanted Souness but there wasnt rioting on the terraces was there?

He'll be backed to the hilt right up until he gets sacked to make way for Shearer, which is FFS's avowed aim.  Everyone, I'd imagine, who applied or was approached was only too aware of that.
