  1. Of all your posts on this thread, I can agree with that one. No point defending Luque's performance yesterday but those bashing him should also at least have the decency to acknowledge that he isn't an out and out striker especially not one who leads the line, the way he was forced to play yesterday. Luque plays in a 4-3-3 left forward position and since I can't ever see us playing that under Roeder, the only position he can play for us is a forward behind the main striker. Both Milner and Luque were supposed to stay in the box yesterday, its such an irony that the one who did anything but stay in the box is getting rave reviews whereas the one who did stay in the box despite that not being close to his game is getting all the stick. I bet if Luque was to drift out wide and interchange positions with Zoggy the way Milner changed positions with Duff he would have looked great too. Instead he is beeing butchered for following Roeder's instructions. Milner isn't an out and out striker but his work rate, movement and general game was excellent, he put himself about, tried really hard and quite frankly deserves credit - Luque on the other hand doesn't. Oh and I don't think Luque has had any decent games and your defence of him and excuses is beginning to sound like someone clutching at straws. Milner only looked good coz he didn't stay in the box. For all his effort, they were useless as we already have two good wingers in Duff and Zoggy. The only think Milner achieved is mislead people who don't realize that he should have stayed in the box into thinking that he had a good game. Luque would have looked better too if he didnt stay in the box all the time which I'm sure is waht Roeder asked of him. As for Luque not having ant decent games you must have missed out on his performances against Lillestron and PSV, not brilliant but as decent as any of our other players in fact better than most, or maybe you just have selective memory.

  3. and I suppose you must have went into a coma when he played against PSV and Lillistron home leg. Luque didnt play well yesterday but for people to say that he has been like that since the beginning is just unfairly exaggerating things. By all accounts, he didnt play much last season and this was his first poor game of this season
  4. To be fair, I think SLK has a point, too many of our midfielders opted to shoot when they could have pass. What was the stats again 30++ shots and 50-60% on target?
  5. cos he hates Luque so much I don't think its hatred. I think its more that Roeder feels hard done/jealous/irritated by the amount of money that Souness spent which limited his own transfer kitty (though we've done well to spend 15M so far) and he sees Boumsong and Luque as the symbol of this ire.
  6. Agree, total gash, didn't look interested and played like he knew the writing was on the wall for him. and do you blame him? To be honest, the writing was on the wall for him since Roeder took over. Having said that, he should have still performed better today. Unfortunately he is a player who just won't fit into our system. He is not a centre forward, he is not exactly a left wing, he is more of a left forward in an outright 4-3-3 formation (not the 4-5-1 covertible to a 4-3-3) which has rarely been used in EPL and certainly won't be used under Roeder. God knows what Souness was thinking of when he bought Luque, maybe a threesome of Luque, Shearer and Owen or maybe he didnt think he was going to get Owen, so he was planning for Luque, Shearer and Dyer. The only position that I can see him play successfully with us is the 2nd striker behind the centre forward but he's got no chance now with Ameobi and Martins well ahead of him. I've supported him for ages, but if he can't fit into our system of play, then we should try and sell him off provided we don't make a huge loss. Alternatively, we could wait a bit and see if Ameobi can carry on his goalscoring form, if he doesn't then Luque might still have a chance but I'd say chances of that happening is quite remote and I don't even think highly of Ameobi! He could roll his sleeves up and get stuck in. He should have a look at James Milners workrate tonight (admit no real end product but he never stopped running, harrying, chasing back etc) and compare it to his own which was pathetic. I can agree with that. Eventhough he is not a centre forward, he should still have given it a go when played as a centre forward. He seems to be pittying himself that he is not getting to play in his real position. But I think today for him was already a foregone conclusion. He felt he was harshly dropped for the Ventspill away and Wigan games and seems to have given up or at least seriously demotivated. To a certain extend I can see where he is coming from, after how he played against Lillestron (home) and PSV, he should have kept his psoition upfront with Ameobi in a 4-4-2. For the life of me I don't understand why Roeder likes the 4-5-1 so much, to play 4-5-1 against Wigan at home is just being a wuss.

  8. One last question (I hope), when is the transfer dateline before every week? Can I still transfer players hours before the game kicks off?
  9. article for not including me tongue.gif
  10. Let me get this right, is the qualifying round based on the 3rd game (this Saturday the 22nd) or 3rd week of the season (the following Saturday 2nd of September)?
  11. Ok another stupid question (sorry I usually play yahoo fantasy), whats the deal with transfers? Unlimited or only at certain point of the season? Tried to transfer players coz bloody Pennant might not get into Liverpool's first team, but couldn't do it
  12. I'm hoping that even with the new buy, Luque will still get his chance especially in the UEFA Cup against more technical teams. In fact most top sides have 4 strikers. With the new buy, we will only have 3. So its not all doom and gloom for him just yet, but you are right, it all depends whether Roeder wants to give him a chance of just waste 9.5 million worth of investment 3 Fit ones assuming we get Martins, I'll say if Dyer and Owen ever return then our strikerforce isn't tht bad tbh we always got emergency backups like Duff N'Zogbia etc... now time for the defence forgot bout Owen tbh

  14. yeah reminded me of Robert's type of crosses. Curled in with pace, too bad Nobby couldn't get clean contact.
  15. and whats wrong with that? Is winning your only yardstick of being happy with the manager. I take it that you are also happy with our transfer dealings coz hey we are winning right? Roeder should show some balls and play 4-4-2 with Ameobi and Luque upfront at home especially against fucking Wigan. Playing 4-5-1 at home is simply being corwardice and reserved for teams who would be happy with a mid table position.
  16. Stupid question on the way Do we have a group exclusively for NO members or are we just joining the NUFC general fans group?
  17. I only use news now for current affair articles like the recent war in Lebanon

    The Betting Thread.

Both. Right...so what would I do in the shop then? Never seen accumulator forms there or anything. Sorry to sound stupid! Nah do it online, some sites (Betfair, Coral) gives you free 20 pounds bet too! I especially like Betfair, canny coz you can bet for and against, made about 200 quid during the world cup!
  19. Champions: Chelsea 2nd 3rd 4th: Liverpool, Arsenal & Man Utd Where will we finish: without a striker 11-15th, with a striker 6-8th Relegation: Fullham, Shef Utd & Watford Top scorer: Henry
  20. Top post, if you don't mind I'd like to put it up on the main site unless you have writer access yourself?
  21. Sorry to burst your bubble on God's own region, but its 61 voters = 32.3% You're lucky its me and not NE5 who picked you up on the error blueyes.gif
  22. North East but not Newcastle. One train station away - Durham
  23. Aye there's plenty evidence to support that theory like. Gem you know my position on Luque but even I had to at the saving him for the Premiership bit. Roeder wants him out and if we could get >5M, then I would not have so much of a problem. As it is, we will flog him for 2-3M and thats poor management.
