We may need to rethink our transfer strategy after missing out on Europe. I’d been told, on pretty good authority (one person removed from the player himself), that Bruno has been told that if we qualify for Europe that we wouldn’t need to sell him (based on current strategy) and he doesn’t want to go.

Quite how this now unfolds will be interesting, do we try and offload some other players we weren’t planning to release, do we revise our list of targets to save money?

One thing that is now likely to happen is that Clubs will be looking to unsettle the likes of Bruno and Isak with the attraction of European football and it’s something we can’t offer to prospective targets.

I think it’s a bigger blow than it may look.

Sure, but its a miggy cup. The league place next year is much more importent.

I don’t know how some people are not bothered about not being in Europe.

After the time we had under Ashley, after having the team now, where you would think that we would be favourites, after our love affair with European games in the past. I just don’t understand why you wouldn’t be disappointed. Fair enough if you are club that view it as a distraction, but for us it wouldn’t be. Realistically now we have been whittled down to just 2 trophies that we can win next season.

I’m fucking gutted, especially when you consider that Man Utd fan’s largely couldn’t give a fuck about the Europa League, and likely don’t even give much of a fuck about winning the FA Cup, and Chelsea fans certainly couldn’t be arsed with the Conference League.

Our fans, and our club would relish every match, we would treat it like West Ham did last season, and to an extent how Villa have this season.

    Small club stuff.

I do have to say that anyone relying on us being in the Conference League to actually sign with us is probably not someone we want long-term. Bruno, Isak, and others have signed without guarantee of Europe. Our project should speak for itself without the third tier of European competition.

It will be a bigger problem if we miss out on EL och CL next season. then are the chances that our star player will leave, a lot bigger .

I understand wanting to find the positives, but there are none to losing out altogether. We'd have been using the early rounds of ECL to rotate and get the likes of Miley more experience. This is a complete disaster.

It would have been good, yes. but not the end of the world.

  5. Not really impressed if we go for DCL. Thats my main concern with Howe that he doent really go for the elite. Even £25m seems step. Max for me would be closer to £15m.

Even if his injury record isnt at the same level you would of expact, he really doesnt seem like the same player any more. At the right price and to be an understady with some youth under, then maybe ok.

ages of premier league winning keepers (most appearances that season)

    29, 30, 28, 32, 33, 35, 35, 28, 31, 39, 33, 35, 23, 24, 37, 38, 39, 27, 40, 25, 23, 36, 23, 29, 25, 35, 36, 27, 28, 29, 30, 31

    average age- 31-32.

The last 10 years make that 29,3 years (median also 29). The 22 years before the average was 31,8 years with a median of 32,5 years.

So the point that goalkeepers are starting to be at their best at a younger age, stand. Though it may be a more indication of the age and quality of Ederson in this example [emoji38]

But I would say that even the eye test stand. Its more demanding to be a keeper and when they are 30+ they start to go decline. Pope need to be upgraded for sure. In all areas really (injury, footwork, age).

    Totally!

Also undermines what he does, yes training tool but if that tool improves the finishing of Gordon, Isaac etc even 10% then it’s worth his wage.

You don’t want Pope and potentially the back up keeper doing long stints after training as it could impact performance / energy levels.

Same goes for a younger developing keeper who could be susceptible to injury with the additional workload.

Finally 10K a week to a top premier league team, pocket change really

I would gladly be that person too :D

If i was at Burnley i would feel sick. Kompany refused to adapt during premier league season leading to them having one of the worst promoted team campaigns in history, the club stick with him for the 'project' despite it being blatantly obvious kompany was prioritising his own career over them by wanting to look like he played attractive football to other clubs, and somehow that strategy worked and now Burnley got themselves relegated for little long term gain. Lesson for football administrators if your manager is refusing to fix an obvious flaw in his own team to look good while you spiral out the league maybe replace the charlatan.

Dont think he was ever going to stay, so weird call by them. bayern though [emoji38]

He would have been interested enough to hear us out and receive an offer.

Parish has since held talks with him, and has likely made him some promises and perhaps offered him an increase in salary to match.

    No big deal.

There were a number of people that were approached and interviewed. Speak to the next best fit.

    Worked well last time.

If he truly dont want to commit then it better not, for sure.

Odd that he’s getting on ahead of Kuol considering he’s seemingly leaving the club and we’ve brought Kuol for his Australian connections

Maybe we dont want to wear out our own players in games like this [emoji38]
