  1. Has Chopra kicked a ball in the Premiership though? I think Chopra at 5m actually makes Harewood look cheap. In Harewood's credit, he has said today that at Wigan he would have been pretty much guaranteed a starting spot, whereas MON made it clear he'd have to fight for his place, but it was a bit of a no-brainer choice to make. I can also see the logic that if Carew gets injured, then he gives us another "bustling" option, which is something we wouldn't get from Gabby or Luke Moore (or Defoe if we were to sign him). I'm kind of coming round to the idea. I agree, if both were available for the same money I would opt for Harewood, let alone keeping back £1m for a rainy day. Harewood would work well with any of your current strikers imho, not something I could honestly say about Chopra.
  2. They want shot of Defoe is why. I dont understand why they do though unless he is unsettled, i mean hes a pretty good back up for Berb and Keane. Keane and Defoe don't work well together, so that meant it was going to be Berbatov + 1 other all season long............ and if Berbatov got injured............ Something had to change. It doesn't mean JD is poor, just doesn't offer as much variety as Keane.
  3. No idea tbh. Sounds like Berbatov and Bent are working really well together in training so assuming they are the preferred strike partnership, Keane just behind/on the left, maybe sharing the job with Taarabt? Alternatively, could be Bale playing ahead of YPL (depending on the style of the opposition). If SWP falls through and they go with Petrov, then the answer is easy. Depends really on who goes out the door as well but there are a lot of options open to Jol at the present time.
  4. I think Ashley will let Allardyce as he has successfully spent at Bolton, not expensive players, simply players who will get the job done. But, with that in mind, I don't think Allardyce will be left short of cash if there are still players available who Allardyce thinks can do a sound job for Newcastle. Ashley was out in Granada (Spain) last weekend with the Spurs hierarchy for Paul Kemsley's (Ashley's best mate and Spurs Vice Chairman) 40th Birthday Bash. From what I've heard since, Ashley's views on transfer dealings and strategy don't vary much from Levy's. Older players who provide experience to the rest of the squad cost little or nothing as their sell-on value will be negligible, younger players with potential having a strong possibility of enhancing their values in the event of them being sold. Newcastle have the manager who will be able to work well within that criteria, the future looks good for you imo.
  5. In the exit column, Mido and Ghaly will definitely be gone, where to isn't decided yet. Murphy - 2 small offers, Levy wants more. Gardner - 2 offers on the table, both of which are now accepted. Up to Snoop where he goes, medicals permitting.
  6. Danny Rose had his medical Tuesday and will finish off the loose ends in the morning. The agreed compensation to Leeds is £300k. Spurs have bid £10.5m for SWP, Chelski are ok with that but want some add-ons for CL football. Spurs hopeful a deal can be done and completed by Friday (if SWP can get back in that time from USA). Agreement apparently in place for Martin Petrov. Sounds like it will only happen if SWP falls through. All gone quiet with Kevin Prince Boateng, big doubts about whether the Ghetto Kid is the right player to go for.
  7. Every team needs a shola ameobi-a-like. Offers them something different to what they have I suppose, although in this case it isnt really a good something different. MON speaking at the press conference couldn't have made it any clearer that he is a squad signing. I guess he'd be a decent stand in for Carew when he's out, and the best way to look at him is a "get an extra body in" replacement for Chris Sutton - another option to bolster a threadbare attack. If i thought he was going to be our only striker signing, I'd be gutted (don't get me wrong, though, he's s***), but he won't. Assuming MON doesn't think Agbonlahor is ready to step up to the plate this season and play up front all year. Although Ill tell you this for nothing, Luke Moore could have a big, big season this year. I like Harewood as a squad player tbh. You won't get a lot of technical ability but you're guaranteed 90 minutes of all out effort and he's not scared to take a shot on, an older version of Leroy Lita. A sound buy imho.
  8. quote author=Scott Parker's 60's Haircut link=topic=42441.msg920559#msg920559 date=1184676600] The TV money hasn't been touched. £20m profit was declared in the interim accounts, the annual accounts would have been showing near to £40m. We're only reinvesting the profit in players to avoid paying tax, we've never been a club to pay dividends either. Add in the sponsorship deals from Puma and Mansion and Spurs are currently very liquid. We're nothing like Leeds. Their salary/turnover ratio was something like 70%, Spurs is around 45%. There's so much wrong with that statement! (1) Buying players is a 'capital' invstment and as such will nt impact on this years profits (2) Most (if not all) of the players have been bought after Spuds year end - so even if (1) wasn't true they would have no impact on tax (3) The comment suggests that Spurs are willing to spend money anywhere to avoid tax, rubbish (4) I'll give him the Puma/Mansion money bit though I effectively repeated comments made elsewhere, so apologies for any inaccuracies. The general thrust of the comments is that Spurs have been very profitable in the past year and Levy, unlike previous profitable years, has elected to spend far more than previously. The feeling was that there was a tax benefit, but if not, maybe he thinks this is our best opportunity to join the big 4.
  9. As the new season hasn't started, the transfer window is open, there's a thread about transfer talk, doesn't seem majorly surprising I post here. When there are threads that appeal I contribute, as I have done for the past 2 years.
  10. Nothing to do with Jol, all to do with Comolli. A lot of Spurs fans have been dubious about DoF's after Pleat's efforts but Comolli is now showing what can happen when the job is done properly. Yuri Berchiche is the Spanish kid, we also signed Dean Parrett from QPR and Terry Dixon and Dorian Dervite are recovering from long term injury. Not all will make it obviously but the future is looking brighter at any time in the past 20 years. Maybe the most satisfying aspect is we are signing most of these players in spite of interest from clubs a lot bigger than Spurs. If it is being accepted that Spurs is a good place to go to nurture talent, it should make the job of signing more in the future easier.
  11. Danny Rose is the left footed Lennon type player from Leeds and he should sign today. Not being held to ransom on transfer fees (Bent excepted) and a strict salary structure are the keys to having funds available. The hope is that SWP, Petrov, Boateng and Rose all go ahead plus one other who isn't on the list. Which Petrov is it? Martin. I know Man City are now chasing him but he and Berbatov are best mates, if there is a choice of the two, Petrov will opt for Spurs, Berbatov has already said that. The 2 problems are that Petrov has only played a handful of games since coming back from an ACL and the other is Levy only wants to pay around £3.5m! Ath Madrid are looking for £8m.
  12. For a maximum of £2.75m, he's going to be a bargain buy. Comolli is beginning to do for Spurs what he did for Arsenal for far too long.

  15. I wouldn't be shocked if Spurs cashed in. His ability to put a decent cross in has always been questioned, his desire to improve it seems to be dwindling. Also looks like Mido will go to Boro if the two clubs can agree how the fee should be paid............ ITK mind-reading at it's finest. If he put the same amount of time on the training ground that he does clubbing, he'd be a worldbeater. I don't have to be physic to work that one out. Who, Lennon or SWP? Lennon. The second half of last season dropped off considerably and he didn't take kindly to being subbed by MJ either. It could be bringing in SWP would give Lennon a kick up the backside, it could be that Lennon needs to get out of Lennon. At his age he should be developing and improving. Right now he's treading water. Got Lennon on the brain too much, Jol? It's all too much for me at this time of night, all this talk of gangsta thingy. I try to let it waft over me while I drink my Horlicks!

  19. .......... so if I've got this right, there's something very iffy at SJP and everything is all ok at Upton Park................
  20. FWIW I think Taylor would make an excellent captain.
  21. He's from Stafford and a lifelong Villa fan apparently, so I'm accusing his agent of leaking this load of rubbish to try to get his client the move he wants. Tell you what, though. I wish we'd f****** BUY SOMEONE. Just not him. Indeed he is. The truth is Snoop's another Bramble, he can defend really well and then he'll have a lapse of concentration and another goal goes in. If we sold him on the strength of his performance against Henry, anyone would happily pay £10m for him, but he's not like that all the time. In the current market he's probably worth £3 or 4m but it ought to be the Fulhams or Wigans of this world who should want him. I'm staggered that either MON or SGE are even contemplating the idea tbh. I'd be amazed if there were any truth in the MON interest - we're well covered at CB with Mellberg, the absolutely superb now he's not injured all the time Laursen, the extremely promising Cahill and Ridgewell in that position (assuming Ridgewell stays, I can't see why we'd sell him and buy Gardner). We need a f****** right back. In fact, we need two RBs and a LB, we only have ONE full back of any description at the club, we've got enough decent CBs. Sorry, I shall calm down now. There definitely is the interest. Snoop is actually a talented RB but the same reservations apply, he'll go to sleep 3 or 4 times per match. It just isn't good enough for a good Premiership side with aspirations of getting better.

Can't believe more people want Babayaro than Shorey tbh.

  24. Why must you turn this forum into a house of lies? No lies, it's been widely reported by the BBC, Mail, Mirror and a few other sites. You can add Brum to the list of admirers now. As I said before, it probably will never happen unless there is some deal involving payments per appearances. Apparently the medical reports make pretty grim reading. And the fact he is s***. . I wouldn't say he is s***, he has played for England after all. I would say he's more not very good, in fact not very good at all. Like getting very close to being s***!!
