Was he just not getting in the Dutch team at 22 or was it a personal decision to play elsewhere? I can probably only really think of Koulibaly who would similarly start for his country of birth but took the heritage option. Hiddink selected him in 2015 for two friendlies but he got injured and never played. Then Blind sr ignored him when he had the chance and Ziyech opted for Morocco stating that’s where his heart is at. If he hadn’t got injured and ignored it might have ended differently.
