To be clearer, I laughed at those who thought it was a good idea. I don't think many LFC fans think getting Kenny in is a good idea, it's more something to chant that isn't straight up "fuck off Hodgson". Like you say, it would be a mental appointment. I don't imagine the owners would appoint him, but there's no way of knowing yet because they have zero track record to go on. for a few weeks or months as caretaker manager i don't think he'd be that bad, but i doubt he'd be any better than Hodgson (he may even be worse considering he's been out the game so long). The situation has obviously gotten to Hodgson now but i think it's exaggerated. Liverpool are simply not good enough to go for the top four and even with a great manager last season could only finish 7th. at present you've got games in hand on the teams above you (away at blackpool, home vs fulham i think) and if they do well in those you'll be in a decent position. with the right board, and taking into account his, errr, "unique" character traits, keegan would've been a decent appointment. for a few years anyway. don't think he's ever had the stamina of the likes of fergie or wenger to be a proper long-term appointment for a club. after 4/5 years at both us and city he felt he couldn't take either side any further. heres the problem they could very easily get sucked into a relegation battle as it stands and while surely be to god they're too good to go down you never know, daglish hasnt really managed since he was at our place and appointing him would be gambling everything on him just "giving everyone a lift" a lot of guff has been put about how if he walked in he'd instantly demand attention blah blah blah etc etc but what of tactics, training sessions, set pieces etc? ie the nitty gritty of management, you can't just skirt by on being a nice face for the club and there has to be serious doubts about his ability here and his actual hunger to manage considering hes been off the merry go round for over a decade That's the thing. Now is not the time to be making risky appointments.

The question is how transferable is that skill, and will they try to transfer more than is reasonable. To be clearer, I laughed at those who thought it was a good idea. While last season went somewhat down the shitter, I think that was mostly down to the boardroom shenanigans. Obviously, we lost our best player in Xabi, but it was still pretty much the same side that was comfortably top 4 and did well in the CL. I'm not really in a position to comment on Keegan, as you guys all know a million times more about it than me; I just felt at the time that it was a crazy appointment.

Yeah. I laughed at NUFC fans for that, and I'd be laughing at my own for this if it weren't making me nervous instead... Can't afford not to.

He did come straight out of the gate playing his long-ball, lower division shite. That was never going to go down well, or indeed work.

http://i54.tinypic.com/hwbryq.gif Does it actually say 18 titles and 5 European Cups on the official sight? FFS Yup. Why? Doesn't it on the NUFC official site?

You take all the craic in this thread really well Wacko. Top fella Biding my time. Just you wait Have a chicken curry on me tonight mate. Ta. What a f***ing shambles. Surely, they've got to get rid of Woy now. Bring in someone else (preferably tubby and Spanish) and give him a chance to sign a couple of players. I'm starting to think there's more than an outside chance of relegation the way this c*** is going. If that weren't bad enough, every time Woy opens his mouth in public, he jams both feet in it. He certainly wasn't a manager I wanted in the first place, but his performance has been worse than I could have possibly imagined. 25 points from 20 games and -3 goal difference. Thank f*** I don't know any Man Utd fans Now you know what it's like to be a Newcastle fan! No comment ... You take all the craic in this thread really well Wacko. Top fella Biding my time. I wouldn't read too much into that if I were you. We've lost to much worse than Blackburn this season.

And I'll fly there to stop you...

Unsurprisingly, there was no money. I think the planning permit has lapsed now. Fuck knows. Not really priority no. 1 at the moment.

Sometimes wonder if our dislike of Gerrard is pretty much how everyone outside of Newcastle was towards Shearer. I reckon so. They're both the kind of player you love if they play for you and hate if they don't, but not as much as Roy Keane.
-
TBH, it's really hard to say when the current owners have no form whatsoever.

He's the kind of manager I could see the MoneyBall folks going for: into his stats and that. He's a good manager, but I've no idea if he speaks English. He's done a good job at Hoffenheim, and is leaving because Hopp seems to have lost interest and is selling Rangnick's best players out from under him.
-
Can't see Abramovich going for Rafa, tbh. You can bet that Fat Frank and England's John Terry in particular will be dead set against it.
-
There were long negotiations with Bayern, but they could have got him on a Bosman if they'd tried a bit sooner.

The point I'm trying to make is that he isn't as bad in the transfer market as everyone seems to like to make out. Everyone was always keen to point out that he'd spent more than Ferguson, conveniently ignoring the fact that Ferguson already had a championship winning squad when Rafa joined LFC. Sure, he bought some crap players, but so does every manager. Even Wenger seems incapable of finding a good keeper. His main flaws in the transfer market were concentrating too much on the squad and not the first team, failing to trust in and develop younger, raw players, and backing out of transfers we really needed when the price went up a bit at the last minute (Simao, Alves). I believe the reason he bought Aquilana was because if he hadn't spent the money, the Yanks would have handed it over to the bank in interest payments. He had about a week to spend it. A mistake, yeah, but it's hardly up there with, say, Souness buying Boumsong for £8m or Fergie buying Hargreaves for £17m, in both cases just a few months after the players were available on Bosmans.

Hope so. That desperate? Because we have every reason to hate the manager that won us an FA Cup, a CL, a SuperCup, and took us to another CL final and within a few points of the Prem. 7 surely he is the reason you are where you are now. That would be Hicks and Gillett. Hmmmm. Without knowing too much of the Politics, your sqwad looks awful, and some of his buys were shocking. Surely down to him? Every manager makes a few shocking buys. In the end, there simply wasn't the money to buy the players we needed to improve. The Yanks were taking every penny the club made to pay down their debts. If you haven't got the money to buy nailed-on quality players like Torres, Masch and Alonso (though he was a bargain), you have to take risks. No, Rafa wasn't the best in at the transfer market, but making out that Rafa is some kind of Souness in the transfer market is well wide of the mark. Basically. I thought that would be entirely obvious to an NUFC fan. Admire the loyalty and, of course, you won things under him. But surely the £60m spent on Aquilani, Lucas, Babel and Keane (for example) is indicative of more than just taking a risk because funds weren't available to buy better? That is pretty serious money that should have bought something a whole lot better imo. Nonsense. What we paid for Babel was reasonable considering what a proven, top-class winger costs. Lucas was cheap. The criticism I'd level at Rafa regarding both players is not that he bought them but that he didn't play them enough to let them develop. As I've said before, Rafa only wanted Keane as an accessory to Barry. The Barry deal fell through, but Parry still bought Keane. The fuck-up was his. Aquilana was a mistake, but even if we don't get a penny back for him, the profit on Alonso and Masch will still cover any losses. Did I mention Rafa took us to two CL finals? And you seriously want to claim this is a bad manager?
