They would be crazy to reject £17m for him. That's what most people in Germany (including the majority of Bayernfans) say as well. But Bayern don't particularly need the money (they have more than 100m Euro in their bank accounts). The reason why they rule out any transfers is rather symbolic IMHO. They want to show that they are not European lightweights who can be messed around with by other big clubs or their own players. Their director of football (Hoeneß) only recently said that they want to show that you have to honour your contract with Bayern if you just had agreed an extension. Fair enough, its a pride thing, but keeping a unhappy half injured player while being offered probably 75% more than whats he's worth fit and focused would be crazy in anyones eyes, even Chelsea. I think they will sell, maybe Bayern need to soften the blow with Emre, or someone bigger coming in, then they can take victory on financial and the footballing side of things. I do agree (I've only slightly corrected the price for you...), but I am not sure if Bayern will really sell, especially not in the winter with the big games against Real Madrid looming. The WC certainly does that to players. Who have they been playing instead of him, and have they been doing a good job? It really only effect NUFC if Bayern really want Emre, at £7-8m i hope they do, we could do with the money, and its always nice to actually make a profit on a player for once. There has been nothing in Germany suggesting that Bayern are in fact interested in Emre that I am aware of tbh. So it looks a bit like another fabricated tabloid rumour to me. Bayern have a couple of players who can play as defensive midfielders. They mostly used Ottl, a young player from their own academy who was doing quite well for them. But they also have Demichelis or van Bommel who can play a similar role. Shame, would of liked a big money move for Emre. Didn't realise they had MVB, thought he was still at Barca! scored 3 for Bayern this season

MANCHESTER United are confident of completing the signing of Owen Hargreaves for £17million within a matter of days after upping their offer for the England midfielder. Sir Alex Ferguson remained guarded w hen quizzed on Hargreaves yesterday, but it is understood United have been told by Bayern Munich that a deal can now be finalised to bring the 25-year-old to Old Trafford. (Manchester) United are also closing in on the £5m capture of Southampton's 17-year-old defender Gareth Bale, beating off interest from rival clubs including Tottenham and Arsenal, with a view to loaning him out once a deal is secured. But Hargreaves remains Fergie's big addition in the January transfer window and the deal is poised to go ahead, despite the midfielder suffering a set back in his recovery from a broken leg. Hargreaves is expected to be offered a five-year deal by United on a wage of around £60,000 a week. http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/tm_headline=fergie-s--pound-17m-bid-lands-owen-&method=full&objectid=18404672&siteid=94762-name_page.html

as i said at 10 last night... http://img155.imageshack.us/img155/7619/picture1nw5.png By IAN McGARRY January 06, 2007 CHELSEA have been quoted a staggering £18million for Darren Bent. Jose Mourinho made his move on Thursday — but is understood to have asked for time to think over Charlton’s astonishing price tag. Addicks boss Alan Pardew admitted yesterday for the first time he would consider parting with the club captain in the January window. Pardew explained: “If he hadn’t been injured, the decision was categorically that Darren wasn’t going anywhere. “But I’m having to see how things go and how he responds to the injury. He might not be back for another five or six weeks and that might be too late for us. “So it’s something I am thinking about. “If someone wants to pay for him in this window they’ll have to wait until he gets fit. “They might be in a position to do that whereas I might not be.” Pardew added: “There has been interest in Darren. I think that’s the case in every window. “This is a top-class player in my view. The injury changes things. “We are trying to locate a striker to replace him.” Mourinho is desperate to recruit a new hitman with proven Premiership ability. England international Bent, 22, is eligible for the Champions League and was seen as a possible back-up for Didier Drogba. But Bent’s knee injury could prove a deal breaker.West Ham are also in the hunt for Bent and are thought to be ready to offer £5m plus Hayden Mullins and Marlon Harewood. Hammers boss Alan Curbishley is also desperate for more firepower with Dean Ashton unlikely to return to action from his broken ankle before March. Chelsea might now be tempted to scrap their interest in Bent and turn their attention to Tottenham’s England striker Jermain Defoe. Hammers boss Curbishley is looking to bolster his defence, with Birmingham’s Matthew Upson a top target. But with so many clubs chasing the England centre-half, Curbishley is ready to make a bid of around £2m for Tottenham’s Anthony Gardner. He attempted to buy Gardner while boss at Charlton but the move was scuppered by a knee problem. Spurs boss Martin Jol would want to sign a replacement before letting Gardner leave. http://www.thesun.co.uk/article/0,,2002390000-2007000758,00.html

Aye, he's following more than one person around right now and screwing up threads. Flooded me with PM's the other day anarl, completely out of the blue, like. He has his 'supporters' though, who will stand by him no matter what. He used to be one of 'them'. He's exempt from forum rules. Done exactly the same to me with PM's, deserves banning but it will never happen

Bruce would have loved the Newcastle job - but he couldn't 'betray Blues players and supporters' By Ian Clarkson 05-01-07 If Steve Bruce had chosen a different path then he could conceivably be in the hot seat at his beloved Newcastle rather than Birmingham City tomorrow. The FA Cup draw has paired Bruce's Birmingham – currently top of the Championship – with Glenn Roeder's injury-ravaged Magpies with all the ingredients of an upset in store. Bruce was born 16 miles west of Newcastle, spent his formative years at St James' Park in the Sixties watching Newcastle play, and retains great affection for the club. He nearly joined Newcastle as manager in August 2004 but he wrestled with his conscience and decided to stay at St Andrew's in what he calls 'the ultimate sacrifice'. When Birmingham were relegated last season and he was hanging on to his job by a thread he may have wondered why he chose that option. However, a summer revamp and a raft of goals courtesy of Gary McSheffrey and Nicklas Bendtner mean Birmingham are riding high and Bruce's stock has risen once more. But there is no doubt that he was in turmoil when Newcastle came calling. "I am a Geordie," he says. "My wife is a Geordie. My family are Geordies. When I was a kid, I would crawl under the turnstiles at Newcastle to save a bob or two. They were my team. "I am sure you can imagine how much of a lure the Newcastle job was for me but I felt loyalty for those who employed me, those who had backed me, so I decided to stay with Birmingham City. It was one of the biggest decisions I have ever had to make but I knew I couldn't just walk away and betray the Birmingham players and supporters. Also, I had just brought in four or five players, so there was work to be done with Birmingham." Bruce has no regrets about his decision as he is only 46 and has at least ten or 12 years left at the top. The Newcastle job may come again but for now, however, Bruce is thinking of Newcastle only in terms of the FA Cup tie at St Andrew's on Saturday. Bruce will want no repetition of last season's FA Cup debacle. They reached the last eight only to suffer a demoralising 7-0 defeat to Liverpool that compounded their relegation. Bruce will be confident of springing an upset against a Newcastle side shorn of many stars. However, it could be that a former Villa star – Birmingham's bitter rivals – puts the knife into Bruce. James Milner, who celebrated his 21st birthday on Thursday, was on loan at Villa Park last season and played an integral role in their 3-1 defeat of Blues in April that ultimately condemned them to the drop. Roeder is keen to keep Milner at St James' Park and believes there is more to come from the young midfielder. "He is such a hard-working lad, one of the best pros I have worked with," said Roeder. "I have never known James Milner to finish the morning' training without doing extra. I have seen James many times in training score goals like he did on Monday. "After the hard work he has put in on the training ground, he deserved that goal (against Manchester United on New Year's Day). Five, six seven goals a season - he scored his first on Monday, there are still enough games to do that. "He has got the potential to do that, and it would be nice to have players in other positions chipping in with important goals rather than just relying on the strikers." Nicky Butt missed out against his former club with an ankle injury and, with skipper Scott Parker suspended after reaching five bookings for the season and Emre battling a groin problem, Roeder's options will be further reduce http://www.givemefootball.com/display.cfm?article=9639&type=1

The Belgravia Group is still hopeful of mouting a takeover bid for Newcastle after seeing rivals Polygon pull out of the race to buy the club. Polygon-backed St James' Park Group announced it would not make an offer after talks with major shareholders. But a spokseman for Jersey-based Belgravia said: "We are still in talks and are still hopeful of doing a deal." Chairman Freddy Shepherd has admitted he is growing impatient with continuing takeover talk surrounding the club. Former chairman Sir John Hall and his son Douglas are understood to be keen to sell their holding in the club, which amounts to in excess of 40%, but Shepherd has been less willing to relinquish his hold. Shepherd has been critical of constant speculation about interested parties - particularly the suggestions emanating from the Belgravia camp which suggested in November that they would like to be in control before the January transfer window closes. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/n/newcastle_united/6234899.stm
