  1. Their obsession with the Fairs cup and how it's not a legitimate honour is class. I feel at this stage the only way we're going to get them to shut up about it is if we get UEFA to make an official statement on it or it gets discussed in Prime Minister's Question Time or something.

  2. Good result last night I thought considering they're on a up after their new signings and the crowd were right behind them. We were a bit lucky to get away with a point but was really pleased with how the defence played, especially Saylor and Simpson.

We offered nothing going forward but with our current attacking options we are going to have games like that, especially away from home. We need to make sure we grind out results, as we did.

Thought Tiote was OK. Had some terrible moments but also some great ones which reminded me of last season. Sometimes I wish he'd release the ball earlier but this is perhaps due to a lack of movement/options around him.

Hopefully we'll see more of Ba and Marveaux in the next game.

  3.

Got no issues with that myself. No doubt some people will be furious but plenty of teams have their sponsors plastered somewhere on the stadium/seats.

We've got it plastered all over the stadium and they're not our sponsors.

Don't get me wrong, I'd rather not have it but I don't see it as a huge issue. Are Sports Direct not a sponsor in some small way? I know we have their logos on the player interview backgrounds along with Puma and Northern Rock. Even if they're not there's not much of a distinction between a sponsor and a company owned by the owner seeing as he's put his own money into the club.

And no, I'm not an Ashley apologist in any way I just don't think that this in isolation is a big issue. Let's face it if Ashley had just gone out and spent £200m during the close season and we were challenging for the top 4 I doubt anyone would be bothered about him changing the sign.

  4. Posted on skunkers;

  5. This transfer window has reminded me of an episode of Location Location Location where the daft couple look round 50 different houses make the odd stupidly low offer only to announce at the end of the programme they're decided not to buy anything.

  6. Bit of an enigma is Mr Nolan. Large segments of the Bolton AND Newcastle fans did not take to him at all. Might be a larger segment of us Hammers because we are more sophisicated. Pardew rarely makes a mistake on transfers and is a very shrewd judge. Made a profit on virtually every player he paid money for with us.

Ah that's why we appointed Pardew!

  7. I might organise a street party for when his contract runs out like.

We should make it a local holiday like in Europe where they have Saint's days and stuff.

  8. Gutted to lose him but at least midfield is an area we're relatively strong in. Also, he was at times too much of a distraction and you go into every game worried he's going to be targeted by the other team and get sent off or do something stupid.

  9. Did Niall Quinn really get done for drink driving or is it just a wind up ?

Pretty unsaintly behaviour putting innocent people's lives at risk if it's true like.

Mysteriously enough, the Irish Garda lost the folder of evidence shortly after he failed the roadside test if I recall.

To be fair, Saint Niall had actually just been drinking water all night. Unfortunately he inadvertently turned it into wine in the process of drinking it.

  10. What constitutes a no mark these days? Argentine internationals? A 1 in 2 striker? Tiote? One of the better right sided midfielders in the league last season? A French international coming off a double winning season? A winger who turned down Liverpool for us? A young keeper who has started the last two games for Holland?

Seems a bit over the top imo.

  11. Would love this to come off. Never really seen him play much but going off what others have said he'd be a great signing. Weren't Liverpool meant to be in for him earlier in the summer? Wonder why they switched their interest to Enrique?

For those of you that have seen quite a bit of Cissokho how would you rate him compared to Enrique?

  12. I think we effed up with him, but the main mistake was being too wary of playing him in the relegation season and before. The net result was that we also p*ssed off N'Zogbia by playing him left back instead.

Once we were relegated and he played regularly, Jose really shone, but it was still only the Championship. That meant that with two years left on his contract, he was still untested in the Prem. Once he proved he was a capable Prem player, there was too little left on his contract for the club to have a strong negotiating position, leaving him free to get the deal he's been pushing for pretty much since January.

With better use and man management, I think N'Zogbia and Enrique would still be here. Its a kick in the knackers.

It should be mentioned that neither Fat Sam or Keegan really managed either player very well. It's easy to say it's the owners fault but playing Duff the Puff on left wing and using Zog at left back was a big factor in Zog leaving and obviously Enrique was frozen out despite most of us spotting his obvious quality almost from the first day.

Basically it's all Duff's fault. What a crap signing he was.

If that's how you read it despite both me and stottie explaining what we meant explicitly, then there's not a lot I can do.

Nah Tron, I agree with you man. The face palm was in relation to how crap duff was.

JOSE Enrique is so happy to have stayed at Newcastle United last summer that he is already contemplating the possibility of spending the rest of his career on Tyneside.

Enrique has developed into an outstanding left-back during his time at Newcastle and is arguably the best full-back playing outside of the Premier League. His performances this season and at the end of the last have established the former Spanish Under-21 international as a crowd favourite at St James Park and the former Villareal prospect has responded by claiming he never wants to leave.

At 24, Enrique, in theory, still has his best years ahead of him, but he has formed a strong bond with the city and its football club during his three years in English football.

Im so happy I decided to stay at Newcastle in the summer, said Enrique, who returned to the starting line-up after a hamstring injury in the 3-0 win over Scunthorpe on Wednesday night.

I know we are only in the Championship, but I love the city and the club. All the foreign players hate the weather here, but its not just Newcastle, its England. Im really settled here and I have no desire to go back to Spain. Im happy at Newcastle, in England and in this team.

In my three seasons here I know the fans like me and I love that. That is more important for me than anything else, more important than trophies and cups.

Enrique is not the first foreign import to fall in love with the club and the city it calls home and it is clear Enriques words are not empty pledges of loyalty.

Going back through previous pages randomly found this. Gutted.

  14. I think we effed up with him, but the main mistake was being too wary of playing him in the relegation season and before. The net result was that we also p*ssed off N'Zogbia by playing him left back instead.

  15. Would love him here like. Always thought he looked decent at Arsenal despite missing the odd sitter. As others have said, if he started getting regular football up here I could see him becoming a top player.

If he did sign I reckon we'd have the best front 6 outside of the "top 6".

  16. Quite pleased with this signing tbh*. Yeah he could flop but her could also push on and be a decent player. Hopefully the fact that he'll be surrounded by fellow countrymen will help him a bit. Just hope people are prepared to give him a chance and don't start writing him off because he doesn't score a hattrick against Arsenal or something.

    * I should also point out that in the past I was pleased with the signings of Luque, Andersson, Maric etc etc.

  17. Is this Tarmac lad one of Graham Carr's signings? Any one seen him play (?) can't find anything on youtube or even FM.

Yeah I'm struggling to find any concrete info about him.

Apparently the Carroll money paved the way for the deal.

As long as he's not using us as a stepping stone to a bigger club.

    Right I'll stop now.
