Big Alex sticking the boot in.
Seems to be mixed reports on whether we moved for Mbuemo or by the time we did he'd already picked Man United, not that it really matters like.
Tough summer. Personally I hope it ends up forcing us into gambling on talents with higher ceilings that are more unknown rather than expensive known qualities. Mbuemo and Pedro in particular are highly unlikely to get any better than what they've shown the last couple of seasons. While good players that would absolutely strengthen us, I want more for less even if that means slower progress and the odd dud here and there
Call it the FM-sickness if you will.

21 years old regular starter in ligue 1 and Senegal international. If this is how Boehly values players maybe we should have a look at other players at Strasbourg?
Only going by highlights he seems to be a great pick up for them. Fast, strong, attacking minded player who seems to be good in transition, which I imagine will fit a team like Sunderland well when fighting to stay up this season.

No I'm saying we want the players but the selling club want an inflated fee to get a profit after the sell on clause is activated.
Sell on clauses are usually a percentage of the the profit, not the whole transfer fee, so the selling club will get a profit anyway as long as the accepted sum is higher than what they paid for the player themselves.

Buy back clauses should be banned.
Isn't it only a pre-agreed fee that Leverkusen has to accept and allow Liverpool to talk to the player? Surely Quansah wouldn't be forced to join Liverpool if he didn't want to? Or does a buy back usually include pre-agreed terms with the player too, which the player might regret a few years down the line...?

I maintain that despite his output and numbers we still have no idea how to properly involve him in the offense so the prospect of who he could be is quite frankly terrifying and irreplaceable. He is generational. You don't sell generational.
Just keeping him fit and fresh would be a start. When he can press and come deep to be part of the build up he's 4x the player we saw at the end of the season when he was lurking around up top waiting for a ball over or through the defenders.

Not really that into the kits & merch stuff, so maybe its too late already, but I'd love a 3rd kit done like Bohemians did with Fontaines DC, designed by f.ex Sam Fender, with a meaningful amount of the price going to humanitarian aid to Palestine.

Be surprised if we don’t go after him for that price. Although I really don’t think he’s shown the progression to command that sort of fee right nowBe more surprised if Liverpool would accept a similarly priced bid from us or any other league rival. If he's 40m for Leverkusen, he's probably 50m+ for us.

I thought it was widely understood that neither Ashworth or Mitchell do/did the scouting. They make/made recommendations based on player profiles and positions identified by Howe, and input and recommendations from the scouting/analysis-teams.
-
He turns 24 almost at the start of the season. Pretty big gamble if we are assuming he'll magically become a much better player here at this stage of his career.
Main reason for buying him has to be that his profile fits into Howe's plans.

Firstly, a shit load of players will have supported us. We're the best supported club in the world, which is another reason why players would want to come. Exposure. Brand deals etc.
yeah, that was what I said...?
History, getting to play in front of 75k fans and potential of the club is all well and good, but not enough unless you're offering more than better ran clubs that can either offer CL now or a pathway (with track record) to move up the food chain .

This will be so annoying if he goes elsewhere in the Prem and does well. He's a talented player and is still so young.
We were supposedly keen for a while but got put off by this past season.
But I think it was a bit of a weird one because I don't think PSV were happy with him not signing a new contract, and so messed him about a bit.
This fee is crazy low, and if we saw something in him previously, surely we ought to have another look?!
Even if he doesn't ccome good here, i.e a bit underwhelming and Murphy ends up being preferring more times ahead of him than not, at 17m we should probably be able to turn a profit on him after a season or two unless he absolutely stinks the place out, which it doesn't look like he would.
Edit: Very low risk signing we absolutely should be in for.
Edit edit: And of course if he comes good, we've got a fantastic bargain that allows us to focus more resources on other needed positions.

Pretty naive to not think the wages Man Utd can offer isn't their biggest pull atm. Unless its trying to sign a player who's been a fan since childhood.
The history, getting to play in front of 75k fans and potential of the club if they get their shit together is a nice bonus, but if they aren't paying above what other interested clubs are offering, I can't see why anyone would choose Man Utd.
You'er kind of in the situation we were in early 00's after missing out on CL. Only reason we got (shitty) big names in was because of what we paid them more than anyone else would.

I saw a bit of the game and he was impressive.
But is this tournament good for Tino? He’s played 45 games and 3.5k minutes this season. He’s the only player in that team that is likely to be an integral part of a CL campaign next season - and then there’s the World Cup.
I would’ve preferred he got some first team experience in those 2 games, then gone away for a good break before a massive season ahead.
dunno feel like he’s way above this level.
2 players actually under 21 in the England side, none in the czech one. Why is football so stupid

Paraphrasing a bit, but it was Howe in a press conference early on saying we don't just look for good players but good characters, which got translated into "no dickheads" which I imagine isn't far from the original intent of Howes wording.

Got absolutely merked by Ryerson from Lyngdal which resulted in Norways thrid goal. Sell.

He's had two seasons with Nottingham Forest whom have been playing a low block and hitting teams on the counter. Hope he has a good work rate and is adaptable to a high press. I love his pace and that he can cut inside to shoot or go outside and cross, so he'll definitely strengthen our squad.
If Eddie wants him above cheaper alternatives and possibly at the expense of other areas that could use strenghtening then so be it.
I don't think there's an issue with the player, but I can see it coming back to bite Howe in the ass at the end of the season though in the event that we start getting injuries to a few key players for a lenghty period of time which starts affecting our results. We can't really excuse him for poor results due to injuries if we've burned our budget on say 2 new players.
-
Doku in our team is 2x the player and way more exciting to watch than he is in Borediolas system. I don't know anything about him as a person, but going by skill alone I'd probably have him over both Gordon and Barnes.

Throw Kuol in then and Shahar you never know until you give them a chance.
Hall played 10 times for Chelsea, not really a breakthrough, hence why they sold him.
Yeah, I'd love to see them given a chance too. Some rise to the occasion, some don't.
Chelsea sold Hall for psr.

Same went for Chopra, Armstrong and Brayson.
I struggle to think of players who left because they weren't getting game time who made it.
You could actually point at Tino and Hall as the opposite. Tino actually said even if his first season he played more than he expected.
Tino and Hall had already had their breakthrough when we bought them, by being given enough time to show what they can do in the PL by Southampton and Chelsea.
Of course, more players will not make it than those who will, but we won't know until we give them a chance.
-
We'll never unearth talents here if we aren't prepared to give talents the opportunity. Both Miley and Osula got criminally little game time this season imo. If they don't get more next season they should get as quick and far away from here as possible for their own sake.
With peace and love, the "he hasn't shown enough" crowd can go fuck themselves. Can't show anything if you aren't getting meaningful game time.

TL;DR, I'm sure it's a load of pish though. Stop shagging your calculator, forget comparing the noncey stats of some shitey championship players and remind yourself of the real facts of the matter:
Your club is a wretched bilge of detritus. Your fans are braindead knuckle draggers who can't accept the fact that you are, always have been and always will be 'that other team in the North East' and that your shit splat town is often referred to as 'the place near Newcastle'. There isn't one thing your club does better than ours.
I thought their documentary series was funnier than ours.

Nah, that's a great deal for them tbh. Granted I've only seen him a couple of times, but he's never stood out to me.
£25m would be in our top 5 highest sales I'm assuming, great business for a shit newly promoted club.
They already need to strengther their whole squad. Would be a massive blow for them if they start the transfer window having to replace one of their best players on top of that. £25m doesn't help them mucch, if any imo. They're better off keeping him.

It's just my personal preference. If we went down that road and the new players didn't set the world alight I honestly couldn't care less if some numpties on here got mad about it a year down the line.
The club have proved capable of picking up great players that would cost 2x and maybe even more if they were already playing the PL. Have some faith, grow some balls and lets go for it! Mbuemo & Pedro are functional players but boring as fuck.
