How is he a suitable reserve keeper but not suitable to play most of our games? You surely need someone who can step in and it not make a big difference. Such as Kelleher at Liverpool.

Dubravka is slow off his line (if he bothers to come off the fucker at all), he doesn’t command his area at all, he’s shocking at one on ones, his wrists are made out of blu tac and he only makes basic saves. Hes a ticking time bomb. The defence has been shambolic since Pope got injured

I thought maybe as the defence got used to him playing we’d get better and he would start to show his 2018 form, but he looks just as useless. Doesn’t fill me with confidence at all for the future if we don’t get rid and sign a capable second choice, or even first choice.

It's unreasonable to expect that we can retain the services of someone at the level close to our starting keeper, who could in worst (best?) case have to be on the bench for a whole season. Kelleher is a youth academy player from Liverpool. I think they'll struggle to keep him unless they give him more matches going forward with Allison having many years left to play.

If we can get someone else in that is notably better than Dubs, that suits our style of play better without impacting the quality of players we need elsewhere then I don't mind obviously. Under our current circumstances, assuming Pope can play something in the region of 85% of our games next season I don't see how it can be a priority at all.

  2. Still maintain he's a perfectly suitable reserve keeper. However, if there's serious concerns about Popes shoulder we should probably look into getting a new keeper in. He's not good enough to play the majority of our games, which I assume he'd do if Popes shoulder went to shit again.

  3. When the first murmurs about prefering Isak to Haaland started coming I found it a bit comical thinking while Isak is great, he isn't quite there and likely never will enter the conversation of being among the 3-4 best strikers in the world. Probably a combination of Isak being in great form while Haaland is in a slump, but now I actually think I've changed my mind and wouldn't swap them. I'll admit I'm proably biased due to being Norwegian.

One day in the not too distance future, we'll have a bench without Dummet & Richie.

I know it's a bit disrespectful to good, professional footballers whom I like, but the day we have a bench without fringe youth players who'd never be close to the first team if not for injuries, two keepers, Krafth, Dummett & Ritchie should be a local flag day tbh.

The whole thing stinks like , we value him at a certain price , if that price isn't paid you can't just throw your toys out the pram and threaten arbitration.  What is the point in contracts etc if you can just get out of one by throwing a tantrum like Ashworth and Man United are doing here ?

It's not that uncommon for contracts to be in breach of labor law. Maybe Ashworth thinks he has a good case by having signed up to something that isn't legally enforceable?

Did you mean to reply to me? Because this is the point I was making.

Yes I was  maybe poorly worded saying "you" when I meant a general you since I saw someone trying to imply it would indicate a professionally run Man Utd which it absolutely wouldn't.

Genuine question, would you be calling us a joke if we had just paid £20m straight up?

You're kidding yourself if you don't think the vast vast majority of Newcastle fans would laugh their asses off if we got £20m for Ashworth. It would prove that the Man Utd clown show is still very much in play.

I don’t think This is a top 4 set of midfielders. And If you take Bruno out then any selection is unbalanced.

There’s two sides, quality and capability/role

In quality, I rate Willock really highly and he’s missing but the reality of the 7 on the books is you have an absolute elite player in Bruno, one unknown in Tonali (after a whole year out), and then a big drop off. If you took that 7 and Bruno did a cruciate in September the season would be screwed.

I like all the players, and they are miles better than the CMs we had just a few years ago (Jeff Hendrick!!!), it’s just the bar has to be higher now.

The gap in capability is another player who likes to sit deep and can cover defensively - if there isn’t budget for an elite CM, picking a young DM with potential would at least cover that, then  in Brunos absence the midfield could still function

The only difference from that midfield (when it isn't crippled by injuries) and the one that actually got 4th is that Miley has developed further and we've brought in Tonali. How is it not a top 4 set of midfielders?

  9. It sucks, but if it is offside it is offside. I'd want them to be absolutely sure if that is a team scoring a potentially illegitimate goal against us in a semi final.

Edit: Haven't seen the situation in detail myself, so above is a general statement rather than saying a potentially wrong call is right.
