I love Eddie and really want him to do well. Just wish he didnt annoy me so damn much with his decisions sometimes.

Ill probably get over it tomorrow. If Burn starts against another pacey winger though..

    It's a fair concern.

We seemed to be looking for a first team left back at one point, but then seemed to have put that on the back burner to prioritise other areas. Hopefully we go back to that.

Regarding manager player decisions, every manager has their quirks. I think Burn featuring today had a lot to do with their set piece threat and countering that. The last two seasons we've seen both Mourinho and Conte completely push Bissouma out of being selected completely , which is far more disgraceful than anything Howe has even come close to doing.

We've just battered Villa 4 - 1 prior to today's game with Burn going against some tricky pace players, just didn't work out today.

Howe is doing just fine, and better days are coming as the squad continues to evolve. Losing him would be a big step backwards.

  2. Burn has probably directly contributed to as many wins  as he has what feels like a loss today. He's hardly been a big disaster every game. But we cannot go into next season with him starting at left back that's for sure.

Regarding Eddie Howe, even on a day as potentially disastrous as today was, still the team came back and looked great doing so. Still his Barnes signing shone as did Gordon, still his setup manages to get two goals out of Longstaff, still he continues to get significant contributions out of 17 year old Miley.

Getting rid of Howe would be a disaster. He would shortly end up somewhere else and only continue to get better and better, and we would never live it down.

Who starts LB next season then? You think after signing Hall we buy another one as well ?

Yes, would not be surprised to see Targett moved on and a starting left back brought in.

  4. Luton are a nightmare to play of late for everyone. Really respect how they are coming along.

Their power, pace and running matches up well against us, especially with Joelinton missing in midfield along with Tonali.

Brutal for Longstaff, Miley and Bruno as they just don't quite have the legs. Our back line isn't the quickest either.

Mr. Howe please get us a starting left back next season, and don't use Burn there anymore. I am really growing to hate that selection. Thanks.

Proper KdB-style strike, watching it back.

    With his left too.

So nice having someone that shoots so well in the team, and with both feet.

Great to have him back. Please stay fit!

  6. Today was a good day regarding Burn.

Should pretty much ensure that he is not used at left back going into next season.

Backup to Botman and only ever at left back again in emergency situations.

    That performance was so embarrassing.

Conte did some work on him. He’s quality, single handedly kept Everton up before going to Spurs.

Looks a right , but by all accounts is a good human and footballer. I’m a huge fan.

Fair play to him. Heck of a job turning things around after an abject start there.

I agree, I think the only reason anyone is suggesting playing youngsters is when the squad has been decimated by injury. So if Alfie Harrison can play in midfield or wide left, it's not that outrageous to suggest he could come off the bench given the absence of Joelinton, Tonali, Barnes and Isak. Ideally we'd have brought in a midfielder in the window but for whatever reasons we haven't been able to.

Yeah, sure. I think Howe has done this with Tino, Anderson and Miley because they were deemed able to grasp what was required of them to a certain level. However, in Hall's case it appears he's not quite picked something up that they require of him, and so he hasn't quite got the same kind of opportunities.

Genuine question but would you have liked to see more youngsters from the academy play instead of any of the main starting 11 last season when we were trying to get top 4?

Exactly. Especially as the first team had a lot of time to recover between games as the schedule was far lighter. It just wasn't as feasible.

It's clear that behind the scenes though, they were very much involved with the first team, hence their preparedness to step in this season and look so comfortable.

Maybe our youngsters are just a bit shit?

I think those that are good enough have been brought into the first team fold and have trained as part of that unit.

When there have been injuries they have then been given chances to play.

Given the inexperience of the youngsters we have, that qualifies as giving them opportunities.

It has been more possible this season due to being in Europe, with more games and more injuries.

Lewis Hall does stand out as having not quite featured as much as we would have thought, and it seems this is due to him not being deemed ready to, which is the manager's call. It seems he isn't quite getting something right tactically and needs more time to adjust, which can happen.

Easy to say they should just be thrown out there, but if it ends up a disaster that opinion would quickly change.

  11. Managers are not going to drop their first team players for relatively inexperienced younger players if they come in and do well while first teamers are out. Typically once the first teamer is fit they come back in.

They are also not going to drop a first teamer who is a bit off form for a relatively inexperienced youngster either, but will allow the first teamer to play through it.

Attacking midfielder I think, but given that he looks like an under developed Haaland, I think we should shove him up front.

Was wondering if he was asn AM that would come in from wide areas in our system, or one that would be more of a number 8. Guess we'll find out at some point.

Seemed to have opted to join us due to a clearer pathway to the first team, and so he might get opportunities sooner than we think.

Again Broja is exactly the sort of player Howe would make better, sadly he's also the wrong type for the way we play.

    Chelsea wouldn't strengthen us anyway.

Think we probably would have been interested, but we can't loan another player from them right?

Hugo Ekitike still available and being offered to clubs on 6 month loan...

    :bluestar:

    Still would.

It's such a big shame his agent carried on the way he did when we were interested, apparently not answering our calls and not being clear on their intentions. All they had to do was just say they were more interested in a move to PSG and not been so dismissive.

I say this because if they had handled that situation more gracefully we would have 100% gone for him now I believe. We seemed to think really highly of him at the time, and he would be ideal as an option upfront and out wide right now, with still a lot of room to grow further as he has a lot of potential.

He's very available for even a loan right now, and I agree it's a move I'd like to see us make, but it would need his reps reaching out and making right on the previous stuff I imagine, but not sure they're smart enough to do so.

  15. Really unfortunate Isak is looking like he'll be one of those that picks up injuries consistently.

Ridiculous how both he and Wilson just keep taking turns with these injuries.

Going to need to get another striker that has a really strong track record fitness wise.

  16. Can't believe he didn't shoot when he was played through on his left side.

Still led to a great chance which Longstaff couldn't have looked any less convincing on, but that was so strange.

We've done well out of that model but the few times we've been comprehensively outplayed was at Man City and against Brighton, and against Arsenal last season where they just passed it all around our press. I think you have to look at how we get to a level where Man City are at because they've won everything using those principles.

Klopp beat Man City without trying to emulate and outdo Pep at his game.
