That fifth place finish and manager of the year was literally the worst thing that could have happened to this club.

 

This guy actually thinks he's some high brow manager. Romanticising about managing bigger clubs than Newcastle, when he is way in over his head at this club. He's not even good enough for Palace in reality.

Don't understand why guys in the championship don't get called up tbh. If they are showing genuine class int heir play then they should be, even if they are not facing prem competition.

 

The problem in this country is that these players aren't in the prem because the clubs ask way too much for them! Not necessarily because they aren't good enough. They should be given a chance at international level if they are doing great in the championship, and have also done well for the under 21s.

 

If they perform well for the full England team then maybe someone will actually fork out the huge sums being asked for by their championship clubs.

 

Will Hughes is a good example as Unbelievable! mentioned.

Pardew loves an English player.Two games in and all this?! Extraordinary for a pretty standard midfielder. Ben Arfa literally has 50 times the talent,and isn't even allowed to feature.

I remember someone on here claiming Haangeland was crap when Fulham signed him, and it was the same when Lovren signed for Southampton.

 

Centre backs are so difficult to judge, as this league is quite different. Fazio looks like a physical specimen, which could work for him here. With those mini spaniards whizzing about under his feet, he probably kept falling over.

I thought he was a decent player at Sunderland and he's surprised me of how much he has to his game but he's a million miles away from international standard. Or rather, he should be miles away from international standard and we should have far better players at our disposal.

 

I don't think I'm being pedantic in asking, what is international standard? Our current international standard is getting outplayed by any good team and struggling to beat any other team bar minnows.

 

This is the thing. Particularly in midfield, England have been really poor. The Lampard and Gerrard thing was just tragic. All those years and no one figured out how to make it work.

 

I don't know really, the current options are threadbare ... Milner should definitely be in midfield for England at this point. Looked so good there at Villa.

Cattermole can't be trusted to control himself, otherwise he's worthy of a call up for sure.

Fair play to the guy. He hasn't done much wrong since he joined. This pretty much cements his place in our first team forever now. Pards drop an England international?! No chance. Oh, and he's likely to be the next captain for Newcastle now.

 

As for Cattermole he would definitely be in, if he didn't have such a disgusting disciplinary record, due to always flying in on people. Outside of that, he's an alright player really.

I'll never understand why managers write off some players immediately but give other ones chance after chance.

Anyway, regardless of all that, I think he deserves to start ahead of Gouffran at this point.

 

At least he may do something worthwhile, even by accident, which Gouffran can't even manage nowadays.

 

I believe in the Obertan.

It's partly them being not great players not managed fantastically, but it's also obviously the Fergie factor.  They don't feel invincible any more and, more importantly, teams aren't afraid of them any more.  But they still want to beat Man United just as much as they did when they were top dogs.

 

There's also loads of pressure on Di Maria to help turn their season around, especially with that price tag.  He's a fantastic player but if he doesn't hit the ground running and adapt to the league quickly and people start to get on his back he could easily suffer a lack of confidence.

 

 

he has all the earmarks of a bust imo, didn't want to leave Madrid, has to adjust to england and a league where people tackle and there are more than two good teams, huge transfer fee to live up to, massive pressure from having to save a completely s*** team, and he's a winger that doesn't like to defend on a team that uses f***ing wing-backs.
