  1. Roeder is right on this one I'm afraid. I can't believe people are complaining about what we did in the transfer window last summer!!!

First of all there was a lot of uncertainty last summer and so it was always going to be difficult for us to get all the players we needed to. Don't forget Roeder had only been in the job a few months, and even then his position wasn't that stable due to the fact we still had to contest his appointment due to the badges issue. He hadn't had a chance to set up his staff or a scouting network or anything of the sort!

To make things even more difficult a freakin' world cup was taking place and this in my opinion was a huge hinderance, as things essentially couldn't get going till the competition was over.

So here we are now. He has said he has a number of players in mind, but it just so happens their clubs weren't willing to let them go in January and due to the alternatives being so much lesser he has decided to wait till the summer, which will be his first real summer transfer window! If he fails this summer then and only then do we have any reason to doubt the man.

    Oh yeah.....

Can people stop going on about how Sibierski contradicts his transfer policy!!! Roeder said Sibierski was a player he was familiar with even during his time in the French league so Roeder knew him well. He was also a free transfer, on low wages, who was happy to take a one year deal, and who had a great attitude and was happy o be a squad player! I doubt many of the players offered to us at the end of the window would have come with these terms!

Roeder's biggest test will be this summer......until then please hold your horses!

On the whole he has done nothing wrong. We are in a decent, if not ideal, position in the league despite the craziness at this club over the last few seasons. I can also see clear progress in the way we play football, despite missing a lot of our quality players!

    Patience......

  2. Good to see we have waited this long to get a centre half in. Lets hope he is good and with a view to a permanent deal. 24 is a good age to sign a centre half as he should have decent experiance (world cup) and still the potential to improve.

I feel embarrased that the lad has a nickname like "gooch". Don't want to hear any USA chants around the ground mind.

    Gooch is an awesome nickname!

Apparently after every tackle he addresses his victim by saying.....

"Sorry homey, but you just got GOOCHED"

    ^-^

  3. Montella for a start, 6 month loan deal scoring goals for fun at the moment and has a few assists.

Fair enough but he's as small as Martins and is not particularly quick or explosive.

Not a striker we should have moved for!

If anyone I would have thought Carew, but both Babel and Piquionne are rated higher than him so we've done the right thing if we are waiting on those two instead.

  4. If you think about it Roeder isn't going to tell Anal what he's doing as he knows Anal will write it in his paper and within hours everybody would know his plans.

    Exactly!

The one thing Roeder has consistently said is that he would rather keep our transfer dealings dead quiet!

Personally, I think we have enquired about taking Piquionne on loan but only if the Babel deal falls through......

    HANDS OFF WENGER!!!  >:(

  5. I just hope people are a bit patient. He is a raw talent but he has got great potential and is an excellent character.

As both our manager and assistant manager are former defenders he will definitely fulfil that potential because he will work hard.

  6. The Times tomorrow!!!

    Roeder close to signing defender

    Gary Jacob

Newcastle United are believed to have agreed to sign Oguchi Onyewu from Standard Liège. Marseilles had offered £2.1 million for the defender, who has been linked with several Barclays Premiership clubs. The 6ft 4in player, who arrived in Newcastle on Saturday, would provide Glenn Roeder, the manager, with defensive cover. They are also examining the possibility of signing Frédéric Piquionne, the 28-year-old striker, on loan from St-Etienne but the move is being hampered by the French club’s demand that the deal becomes permanent at the end of the season for a fee of £5 million.

  7. Deportivo only paid 1.5million for him so we are essentially offering their money back to them, which I think is fair enough as he isn't in their first team picture anymore due to differences with their coach.

Seeing as the Luque deal was such a disaster and we haggled with Depor to the death over it, I can imagine Freddy being even more difficult with this.

I think this deal should still have a chance as it is very similar to what happened with the Luque deal and fortunately for us it doesn't seem as though we have too much competition.

We will just have to wait and see.....

  8. Quote:

Roeder, still hopeful of adding another striker to his squad before next week's transfer deadline, is weighing up a loan move for an unnamed French forward. The United boss is also keen to sign a defender and this weekend will attempt a breakthrough.

Who would you like to see coming in that is either French or from the French league?

    Let's keep this realistic please......

    ^-^

  9. He's only 22 to be fair (like Martins).

So his inconsistencty could be down to his youth and his lack of opportunities in the first team (like Martins too!)

Would be good to loan if possible I think.

    Anyone have Roeder's number?  :undecided:

God knows the man needs some help!

    >:(

  10. Most unbelievable thing ever!!!!!!!!!

Les Reed was a joke. Can't imagine he will ever get another job.

He was so confident too! Serves him right if it is indeed true he had a lot to do with Dowie getting sacked.

    What goes around comes around.....

  11. I'd take Mark Hughes any day over Roeder like.

You my friend are a bloody retard!!!

I knew this was the reason you kept having a go at people for complaining about Mark hughes. You are a loser.

Why would you want Hughes when Roeder is clearly doing a better job than he is you numpty!!!

Oh aye that must be it, I have a secret lust for Mark Hughes.

    Obviously you sick pervert!

Give me one other reason then???

You are so clueless it's embarrassing...

  12. hey kaka you've saw owens performances for england...do you reckon he was ready/fit enough to play for us in april ?

Off the bench yes, as he could have maybe helped us snatch something late in a game.

  13. you do realize that in interviews he is ASKED questions. An interview isnt "Ok, Mr.Owen, please tell us everything on your mind regarding football." players are asked specific questions, and then they answer. and seeing as how most of these interviews are from the national media, it makes sense(with the england number one in a world cup year), that a lot of these interviews would be focused on the world cup. Even when owen did work in bits about wanting to be fit for NUFC, people STILL bitched about how he doesnt care about us.

honestly, if i were michael owen, i wouldnt be in love with the club. many players aren't, and it really isnt that big of a deal. Its just the team they are playing for ar the moment. we cant have every single player be like shearer. this doesnt mean he hates/disprespects the club. welcome to professional sports.

I hear you but I was dissapointed all the same with the way he handled things, but like I said that's just how I feel. I genuinely believed he also held back even though he was ftit enough to feature for us at the end of the season, which believe it or not I would have been fine with, had we not been battling to qualify for Europe! and don't forget we did have a chance to finish 6th too.

I repeat this is simply how I feel and I am venting MY frustrations.

  14. I have not been convinced by Owen since he joined the club.

7 goals in 10 games says it all really

Not bad.....but 15 goals in about 20 games! Now that would have really turned me on!

You have to give him the benefit of the doubt though, he didn't mean break his foot it was a freak accident

I realise this, but he could have acknowledged the Newcastle fans, instead of going on about how he would be fit in time for the world cup all the time. We were even more disappointed that he would be missing for Newcastle as our season was in absolute disarray at the time. To hear him going on about England at that point in time left a very bitter taste in my mouth.

when asked by a national tabloid journalist about his chances for the world cup, whatshould his answer have been ?...had alan oliver asked him when he'd be back for us he may have answered

I'm sorry but I saw the interview and he was asked about how his leg was and not about his chances for England!

He was the one that started ranting on about England and never felt the need to acknowledge the Newcastle fans who were staring at the prospect of a strike force of Shola, Chopra and some impostor who looked a hell of a lot like Alan Shearer for the rest of the season.
